Kewl Idea,I hope he see's his dream.
The problems i would have is if tax money paid for it.
The problems THEY would have is,over a few generations, the whole town would NOT need all the things he wants.
ie:teachers having to teach in sign to a class of hearing offspring.
yes it would be kewl if everyone knew sign for the deaf people, but then the blind might insist we all learn to read brail.
Yes if everyone knew how to read brail it would be good.
I dont think (and im guessing because i can hear and see)that most deaf people or handicapped people would want to be moved off into a town like that.
They want to stay in thier homes and towns.
Its just my opinion, but i see this costing America zillions of guilt tax dollars.
I think he intentions are better served finding ways for the deaf to stay with thier families at home and work out ways to make things better in the day to day communities.
BTW,in Texas back in the day,my highschool football team played a school for the deaf from around Austin I think.
They kicked the fuck outta us,I mean it was brutal.
They were amazing.
The timing and communication was incredible.
Talk about working as a unit!!!!!
I was lucky as a young man,I learned first hand not to doubt the abilities of the handicapped.
What a handicapped person is missing in one area they make up for it in another. There are some very talented people out there. I used to golf with a guy who had one arm, and he consistently would kick our asses on the golf course. He could have been on the PGA tour, he was damn good.
Ya I thought a society like this would be cool - those who dont want it well thats their choice . Just think its cool that someone would take this on ! I was a friend of a deaf person for many years and yes they deserve something like this - its open to those who wish to live there .
ok but this isnt boystown where there will be an endless supply of young orphaned or troubled boys that will be comming in.Quote:

The town would start to suck soon after that IMO.
Well from the article I did not get the feeling or message that this place was catering to orphaned or troubled individuals . I see it as a place where people with this disability can live and prospere with his own group of peers - maybe in an environment that is much easier for her or him to relate to .Its a concept that at least deserves a shot maybe it will conclude with many success stories .Quote:

I think if you took 10,000 deaf people and put them in a town that catered to deaf people, they would love it and it would be kewl, its the offspring that will start to have a problem with it is my point.
For an example...
If a man was deaf.
He marries a deaf girl from that town, they have the average 2.5 kids.
The 2.5 kids wont be deaf, but will still be in that town.
Then another generation comes of 2.5 from them, not deaf.
From just two generations, following the averages of people who are born deaf,it would be very soon that MOST people in that town would not be deaf.

This makes sense interesting ...
With my wife and I and I dont know how everyone else is - but my generation moved out of the state for work houseing etc - families dont seem to be as centralized as they once use to be ( sorry off topic a bit -it got me thinking )
Hye BGM, growing up in Texas, my high school softball team played a deaf team too. And yes they kicked our butts too.Quote:
