Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
Very seldomly when called into work on the last minute I will work. When I do I treat it like any other day..work hard and hustle. Other times its a good thing then I can make deals; such as, getting money off of rent or coming in a bit later.
What do you think when your club calls you in to work? Am I loosing money if I dont go in?
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
I almost never go in when the club calls me in. For a while I knew that the manager that worked on Tuesday and Wednesday would call girls in and we get free house if we come in when we are called in, so I would just plan to come in on those days, as I knew he was going to call me.
He quit calling girls in because NO ONE would make a schedule on his days, so esentially the dancers figured out how to get free house at least 2 days a week. If you just walk on, you still have to pay the regular house fee.

I think if you dont get up to bat,no question about it,you can not hit a homerun.
I think if you didnt have any plans....
I also think if an entertainer is called in,she should say she already had plans she cant get out of and the only way she will come in is IF the house fee is waived or a prime shift is offered.
Its not often the entertainer is in the drivers seat.
Use it ladies.
Get your propers.
This is when you have THEM by the short and curlies.
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
Whenever I got called in, it was because there werent enough dancers. This could be a plus for you if the lack of girls hasnt already driven off the customers that day... I always tell them straight up on the phone, if I come in when it's not my day to, I am NOT paying tip out.
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
they do this at my club and it's so annoying because they call every girl not scheduled. So when they say "we only have 6 girls!" and you come in because of that, find out that they have double the girls they really need, it's going to be shitty,
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
Even if I do go in; I work at a place that pays hourly + commision + tips ...can I still demand less or no rent? If I go in I might get the shitty booth and be where no one can see me.
When I worked in a club setting I would ask to get free rent but this is slightly different. Its not too demanding to ask is it?
Its nice not to think about work for one or a few days and then the club calls "we need girls" and it breaks my peace.

My reason exactly.. I had a manager call me EVERY day, even when I was scheduled. I finally told him to lose my number..
They aren't just calling YOU in, they are calling everyone and usually it's just to make the club look full, even if it's usually only dancers that are there and very few customers.
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
Doh! I thought this was in the Customer thread and had to respond since my ATF just called ME into work last night! :D So I won't go Saturday--if I can resist! /:O
The odd thing was is that she had been trying to get out of going in last night but they wouldn't let her since there were too few girls--so she had already told her other regulars she wouldn't be there...and so she called me! Does that make me a loser (L), a pathetic loser (PL), or her All-time pathetic loser (APL)? }:D
Seriously, though, it might very well be worth it to go in IF you have a regular that you can call who would come in if things were bad when you got there...and you never know--you might hit upon a guy who normally only goes in on that night and is taken with you. And if you can wrangle any sort of concessions out of management to come in...
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
When I get called in, I faux-cough or say I have plans. I know I could be making some extra money, but come on...........I'm lazy!
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
Tigersmilk, depending on when they call you in maybe you could ask for a lower base fee. I mean, if you don't have the same amount of time to make what the other girls are making... As for clubs, I've found that they usually call a grip load of girls when they call people in, so there's usually no money to be made... Also tends to burn me out if I'm planning on working the next day anyways. It's mostly up to how you feel at the time you get called in I s'pose
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
I have done it if I have no plans that night. Everytime I came in when called in to help, I would bank. Also, if I needed a night off on one that I was scheduled for the managers would give it to me since I helped them out. I have also used this card to get holidays off.
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
We were just discussing this at work yesterday. I normally will not show up because my days off are devoted to my baby and my mental health, but I can understand how you can make the situation work for you.
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
In the end, it really depends on you and/or if the management are the type that will 'scratch your back if you scratch their back'. If you value your nights off, then tell them straight that you absolutely cannot work outside your scheduled nights (or just do not answer the phone).
OTOH, if you really have nothing much else to do that night and it won't really hamper the rest of your schedule... why not go in? Even if it is a crappy night and you end up walking away with $100 after tip-out.... that is $100 you wouldn't have made (or maybe even spent?) if you did not come into work that night.
In the end, it is your call. Always try to see if you can negotiate a deal. If you can't negotiate a deal (a win/win situation), then the club isn't that 'hard up' for dancers that night.
;)

My club used to do the exact same thing-no customers, just calling to get people in. PLUS they still expected the girls they called in to pay the house fee. So...they were really calling girls in so they could collect money from them instead of the customers that they were lacking. SOOO backwards.
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
I used to go in when my club would call until one night, I overheard the housemom and DJ discussing the amount of dancers on that shift and how she needed to call in more girls so they could get some more money - even though the club was dead.
Now, if a housemom calls me, I let it roll into voicemail and immediately call a waitress friend dancer I know is already working to ask how it's going before heading in. And if I go in, you can bet I negotiate a cheaper tip out for that night and another in case of a bad night.
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
Thank You^^^^^^ I am wondering if I am the only person that will dash downstairs, or to the kitchen, or WHEREVER the nearest caller i.d. box is before I ever answer the home phone??? I know it's pathetic, but I've been caught out there too many times. It at least gives me time to think up my excuse/lie. Cuz, Lord knows I'm not coming in until I call a friend who's already there, and find out if its worth my time;)
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
The club that I work at has so many girls we don't gt called in, but I used t get called in at another club I worked at. But for all of you saying after you get there there are a ton of girls because the manager called every girl, can't you just change your mind and turn around and go back home?
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
I go in if they call me in unless i have plans. I usually work all six nights though anyway.(closed on sundays) I know in my club they want at least 8 girls every night b/c you never know when an unexpected large crowd is going to show and they want enough girls to hold the crowd. They also take into account, if there are less than 8 girls, we do three song sets, and they dont want to run the girls in the ground. I am not sure how your club works though, it sounds very different than the one i am at. But the way i look at it is that if you go in, you are ound to make something even if it is a shitty night, its more than what you had before.
Re: Being called into work...good thing or bad thing?
Oh god, my managers call me in every god damn day, whether there are dancers or not. I don't pay a house fee and I don't have a schedule so I can come and go as I like but it's like... come ON. They just try to get a lot of girls in to make the place look busy and bla bla.
Usually, I just don't answer the phone. But my manager is tricky because a lot of times he just calls to say hi and check on me (I have some health issues) and all that, so I feel shitty if I don't answer it too much, haha.
I have two managers and they never communicate, so sometimes both of them will call me into work like, within ten minutes of each other. I'm like, come ON.

No, not really. They are asking you if you can come in. They can't make you come in. The problem is they can treat you like crap-lousy shifts, leaving you off the schedule for a week, etc.- if you say no all of the time.
I have a fav who's on the top of the "All hands on deck" call list at her club. She lives 40 miles from the club but a bunch of other girls live near her and she has reliable transportation. Management will call her when there are no girls, ask her if she can come in and ask her to bring some others with her. Unfortunately, as others have mentioned, the club sometimes ends up with 20 girls and fifteen customers when they do this and, of course, the club still wants your house fee!
Based on what favs have told me it's a good idea not to say no all of the time. It probably depends on the hierarchy at your club to a certain extent. Someone who helps management out when they are in a bind should get rewarded. This doesn't always happen. Always remember, they want your house fee, they don’t care if YOU make any money.
