Re: Nobody speaks English!
I tend to find smiling and taking their hand and leading them back to the dance area works wonders.
Re: Nobody speaks English!
I usually dont talk to people who dont speak english meaning its really hard to bulid rapport for me in 2-3 songs when no one understands eachother.
I learn what ever language they speak. Tips, dance and how much, song...just very very basic words. ^^ do what she did too...a smile and a hand touch goes far.
Re: Nobody speaks English!
I'm having the same problem. And it's true that a lot of foreign guys seem to like bigger women. I'm just glaf that school pid off and I took four years of Spanish. It doesn't help with the Asian men or Middle Eastern men. One time I got an Asian guy by repeating the price of the dance and pointing to the dance area.
Re: Nobody speaks English!
god I love being a bigger woman =P Old Golfers love us too!
I am havign that problem with the mexican guys next time I am going to try to talk dinero maybe it would be less intimidating since they know I can't speak so saying money might help I am blonde too that helps with the mexicans
Re: Nobody speaks English!
wow, that's weird, i've always found that foreign guys much preferred the very thin girls. especially asians and middle easterners. i'm on the curvier side, and i never, ever did well with asian or middle eastern customers. they would always choose the tiny petite girls.

Not always true,LOL. (Well, not in this area anyway.)
But they really seem to like it when they run into you on the links. So the next time they come in they spend so much more.
Old golfers generally like sexy young golfers, lol.;)
Re: Nobody speaks English!
Asians and Middle Easterners like tiny petite women. Mexicans like large women. Stereotypes of course, and there are plenty of exceptions, but that's been my experience.
I am NOT thin by any standard - curvy and not fat, but would like to lose 5 or 10 - and the other night I had a black guy tell me to get my "skinny white ass" out of his face. Uh huh. And I gave a stage dance yesterday to a Mexican guy who really liked the show, and loved that I was dancing to salsa, but when I got off stage and came over to join him he was disappointed that I was white. He'd assumed I was Cuban or Puerto Rican in the lighting and with that music. I sold him a topless dance but it was a hard sell.
Still, at least he spoke English.

IMO, this is true
Re: Nobody speaks English!
Can't believe that after all this time doing business with multilingual clients especially latinos, you girls dont know a few nasty words!
Shame on you!
Wonder why Europeans hate us......
Re: Nobody speaks English!
try and learn some of the languages. i speak basic phrases for work in: russian, spanish, german
and i'm fluent in french. the great thing about europeans is many of them speak more than one language, so if i'm not familiar with their native tongue, most likely they will speak german, english or french.
when i come across a customer who doesnt speak english or a language i understand, i look for a girl doing a dance point to her and hold up a bill and a finger. ex: if it's 2 songs for $25, i take a 20 & a 5 and hold up 2 fingers. smile and nod my head and say 'yes?'
Re: Nobody speaks English!
Be wary though I've known of guys often using the "no-english" line to get out of dances or to try breaking rules even when they can speak english.
Oten they have a friend to translate so make sure the friend explains all the rules and prices so you don't get stuck.

hah, we used to get that a lot at my old club. you'd ask the middle eastern men if they wanted to buy anything and they'd be like "no english, no speak english!" then you see them ordering drinks at the bar 2 mins later using english just fine.
Re: Nobody speaks English!
Yeah it's hard - in busier clubs I find the language barrier isn't so much of a problem as I suppose they can see what other customers are doing and copy. Also theres probably more of a chance that someone else in the club can communicate with them, (Lots of overseas people living and working here...) I find it very hard in slower times!
Ages ago a transexual prostitute came into the club I worked in with a Chinese man who had one of those electronic translating machines. It stuck in my mind because she hissed quite loudly across the table to me, "Ha! There's no Chinese translation for transexual in there!" Lol! That aside one of those things could come in handy of you do have alot of foreign customers!
I'm unsure of what Asains really like. I always thourght bigger and curvier than me, but I find that when I work in Sydney Asians from all over seem to like me alot more than when I work in Queensland. Japanese people in particular HATE me in Queensland, but often tip me in Sydney! That doesn't even make sense!
Re: Nobody speaks English!
The main problem with the language barrier at this place is that these guys are all Mexican and Guatemalan laborers, and they are mostly there for extras. Our club hasn't been open long and it's very close to a skanky club where extras are common, but fortunately our club has cameras everywhere and won't tolerate it, so none of us are open to that. These guys really seem to expect a lot more than they have any right to expect, and I have no way of communicating to them how things are supposed to go.
I think I would make more money if I could explain politely, rather than keep shoving their hands away and saying, "NO!"
Re: Nobody speaks English!
hmmm I don't think you should feel like you have to stay there. You say you want to get better as a dancer and learn a few more tricks, but I barely started dancing too and got hired at an upscale club...part of it also is the way you carry yourself, confidence, sex appeal, etc...I don't know any tricks...but I know how to be seductive onstage (come on...I'm sure you've done this in the bedroom =) ). Try looking at other places and don't feel intimidated to audition elsewhere.
Re: Nobody speaks English!
Thats what I hate about L.A. clubs.....a lot of the patrons dont speak english.

Amen to that!! Although I have encountered a lot of guys here who pretend not to speak English too, just so that I won't ask for a dance. Or rather, that they can pretend they don't know what I am talking about.
Re: Nobody speaks English!
we get alot of Mexicans -- usually i'll just use alot of hand signs...like pointing and the ok hand sign along with smiling and giggling.
Re: Nobody speaks English!
I would have to say go to another club. Although you feel as though you arent experienced enough yet, the best way to learn is by watching and doing. Most guys love seeing a new girl. I know that for the first few months we have a new girl start in my club they end up making as much as the rest of us just because they are new and have the innosence still. Good luck!

Bugger politely - I think you should learn how to swear in Spanish first! ;D
You can pick up one of those translators I mentioned from $20 in Australia so I'd imagine they'd be pretty cheap elsewhere too. Heres a list of the top ones...
What I would try would be using an online translator to help me make up a sign which had the basic rules or the club on it. Then as someone else suggested a while back on SW I would go put the signs up in the mens toilets above the urinal.

Well, maybe if you did that while smiling, and saying sorry, most of them know what 'sorry' is. I know it is tiring, but maybe if you tried some words in spanish. I'll try writing some phrases here with their aproximate pronunciation. The syllabes with the strongest pronunciation are marked in bold.
No se puede (no seh poo-eh-deh) = not allowed
no permitido (no per-mee-tee-doh) = not permitted
lo siento, pero no! (loh see-en-toh, pero no) = I am sorry, but no!
welll i don't think my 'pronunciation hints' are very accurate so you could find someone that speaks spanish and ask them to tell you how to pronounce those phrases. I hope they are of any help. And good luck with those bad costumers!

Re: Nobody speaks English!
There are a lot of Mexicans where I live. Since most girls despise them and refuse to dance for them I have taken the opposite approach. I am nice to them and most importantly of all I learned Spanish. The basics are easy and it is a easy language to pick up. If you dont want to take the time to learn it just remember that 85% of all communication is nonverbal and dancing doesn't take alot of conversation. Also most of these men left their wives and families back home so they just want to be around a women. Good Luck.
Re: Nobody speaks English!
ps. if you get middle eastern guys just say "Habibi" which means Darling aha they'll love it - (i'm middle eastern, i wish i'd get middle easterns instead of mexicans here)
