I have a good friend who is a "rave promoter" and I spent a few years in and out of the scene myself. I know most of you have seen the girls that dance behind screens and on podiums and these clubs. Just curious what the experience was like. Thanks.

I used to do it all the time--it was kind of like a second job for me. It was great fun, but sometimes grueling. A couple of girls have collapsed right on the stage before. They were probably on drugs or malnutritioned, though. You sweat a lot. But I loved it!
How'd do get a job like that?Always thought that would be fun.
Just have to know the right people, although I am sure there are ways to get in besides knowing people. Who knows, lol I am fortunately inside the circuit <3 <3.
Been there done that. Shadow dancer. You are up on a high balcony, with people all over the dance floor. The club had a bucket so people could throw tips in, and that was about it, since not a person could get to you or talk to you. hell they did not even know who you were.
We wore tight clothes that made up look nude. We had a chair to play with and at times a love seat.
Tone of money, No. Fun, need to lose weight, and don't want to be bothered by the crowd, it's great!

Very interesting, I am absolutely digging the feedback from this thread. Thanks guys!
So how does someone go about getting a job dancing at raves ? It has been mentioned that you have to 'know the right people' . Who are the 'right people' ?
Can a dancer just contact a promotion company ?
I am not really sure, probably trying to find out the same thing because the people I know are not getting me anywhere. *grunts*
Are you serious??? Have you ever been to a rave and if so, what was your purpose of being there? Sorry, I'm introduced at raves as "Get her whatever she wants...this is ____ from the oldskool. Then the newskool cats acknowledge. It's all underground baby. You have to love the scene for what it is and experience it to the fullest then you will wonder why you asked this question in the first place. Maybe I just got lucky meeting the people I did but I seemed to meet thesame type wherever I went. Anyway, you need to (A) prove your not a cop. (B) Get in with the scene and it's not too hard from there.
Become well known! And of course the above mentioned^^^^^.
I did not go alot, younger crowd, too young for me, but i actually was asked if i would not mind getting up there and dancing! So i gave it a shot. In my county i have to say Raves are banned now. This club was ALOT like a damn Rave...Alot. Open every night, but i hit it on the busy nights or week-ends.
Knew the (some) staff, and that was how i danced there.
The money is not great, always a fight. Well, the place is closed now anyway. But i tell ya it's tough, these places are packed elbow to elbow....

That sounds like lots of fun. I'd do it. But I don't think rave is even big in NYC.
Go to this site... www.SupaDupaZone.com You may get something there. Good luck.
I would have to say, the rave scene was my favorate. Now I was never interested in making money at one.. I was more caught up in the action. Im not sure how things are in todays time. But in the mid 90s.. oh my lord, I was so addicted to the scene. Dancing 4 twelve hours straight.. trippin on mescine & E.. back then.. E was called "X".. Back then, most people didnt know what a rave was.. other than the brand of hair spray. lol.
Perhaps I was confused as to where you want to dance - the name of the thread is "dancing at raves". I assumed you meant RAVES (undergrund dance scene) but I'm now wondering if you didn't mean dancing at a nightclub on a podium. If that's the case, simply call the manager of the club and tell him a bit about your experience and ask if there is a good time you can come and audition. My friend was offered a job at one of the top nightclubs in Tampa (Ampitheatre) after she simply got up on the podium and just started dancing. She was then offered a job doing it but she declined partly because the $$ was not that great and it's really a LOT of work and very tiring. You'll make more $$ at the strip club but possibilities are endless at the hot clubs. You have opportunities to be showcased in a different environment for your talents and you will make many more relevant contacts. Sorry if I misunderstood, like I said I'm from the oldskool so when I saw "dancing at raves" I just assumed you meant underground parties with secret locations not given out til the night of the party where everyone dances for hours !!!Gee, now I definitely feel 8up!!!LOL Good Luck! PLUR
Personally, I was talking about underground dance parties. They come up every now and again here in San Antonio and I know of the major production companies for these events, but I am not too sure about how to get ahold of them. Although my best friend owns a site () and I am thinking about talking to him and some people around there for more information.
Thanks everyone!
I don't think it's anything you could make a living at. I know one dj/record company owner who had a regular dancer he used and it wasn't like she did it all the time. I've even gotten up on stage and danced and yeah, I got paid nothing. A lot of that stuff is fun but hard to make a true living at. My friend in New Orleans fire dances and I think she used to make like $500/month max and she danced in clubs, raves, whatever.
I am not looking forward to making money at it, mainly just the experience. Plus I love the rave environment and love being on stage... figured it would be something worth trying out since I go to events constantly anyway. You know?
You said you know the promotor....well that's all you need! There's your ticket. Have fun!
How did I get into it? It's all in who you know. The club owners or whoever was in charge of hiring the dancers would ask if I wanted to dance for them. I'd go to auditions, too, but I was usually a shoe-in because I knew the owners! Lately I've been dancing for local bands, and my picture even appeared in a local paper! Crazy. Once you get into the circuit, it all flows from there. And sometimes it's just being in the right place at the right time--timing and luck seems to be on my side quite often.
