Customer service and lack of knowledge!
I am so Fucking pissed. I have to rant. First of all, I live 40 miles from civilization.. so what I Have just gone through has been an ordeal for a Saturday night...
I was working on my laptop when all of a sudden, I lost all power. My AC adapter burned out. No big deal. I can drive to the big town down the freeway and get a new one. So I call, and I talk to the guy at Best Buy.. "Yeah, we have one, but we close in an hour".. holy shit.. I have to go now.. so I throw my hair up and throw on my sweats and get in the car and zoom down the road.
I get a universal adapter for a Compaq Presario 1500T. I ask the guy THREE times, "Are you sure this is the right one?" The dumbass says yes, yes, it is. I hand him a slip of paper that I had all the stuff written on from the back of it, he says "Yep.. this is the one"...
So, My hubby calls me in my fit of rage with my lap top.... and I say to him, I have no idea why this won't work.. he says, check the back and check the package.. so I do... WRONG ONE!
OOOOOH I am sooooo mad... why can't people just do their jobs??? How hard is that? I am so tired of getting some punk assed kid who says, "Yeah, no problem" only to learn that its either, cold, wrong ,wrong, or wrong again..
And don't even get me started on clerks who can't count back change correctly..
My blood pressure is through the fucking roof.. and oh joy, I get to drive the nice trek tomorrow because as much as I hate to admit this, I'm spoiled and I need my lap top- plus, all of my school assignments are on there and I just started classes last week... and I have papers due this week... Do I dare go back to the store where I bought this and tear him a new fucking ass? Or do I just tell him to bend over and shove this adapter up his ass and teach him for giving me the wrong damn product???>:(
GRRRR!

Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
Hehe...I totally hear ya on this one! It doesn't matter where you go either...there's always SOMEONE that does this! Grr...stupid people...
-
Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
Option #2....adapter up the bum.}:D
Ugh...if you see him try not to kill him but tell him what an inconvience he put you through. Wait...that wont do anything everyone at best buy makes minimum wage and dont care what customers think b/c they dont get paid enough to care. ::)
Its hard to stay away from the ignorant but its seems theres too many anywhere. I hope there somewhere else you can shop at where people care what they say to customers.

Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
my only words of advice are: when you do find the right one, buy two of them
-
Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
Huh.....if only you could have taken the burned out one with you to do a comparison :-D
-
Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
lol This happened to me a couple of weeks ago at another Best Buy. I ended bringing my whole laptop in.
-
Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
Just take it back and talk in a calm, professional manner, and keep smiling. That way you can chew someone's ass out royally and make them think you are nominating them for sainthood. Then say something like:
"A very nice gentleman helped me with this last night and although I thought he was an expert he was obviously either one generation removed from walking on all fours or he needs a window put in his stomach so he can see where he's going."
Later tonight a few of us can gather and calmly walk over to the Best Buy and in a professional manner firebomb the place.

Just once at Best Buy, I'd like to buy something without being asked for my zip code, to subscribe to a magazine, or if I'd like to put my purchase on my Best Buy credit card.
BB would move people through the checkout line faster if they'd cut it out with the intrusive upselling, and just ring up the damned sale.
At the store, I'd keep it calm and cool, but if you need an outlet for your vitriol, you might want to share your experience here.

Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
Yes, I hate it when I'm asked "Would you like a credit card?", "Can I interest you in subscribing to our monthly newsletter?" or the zip code question.
Not too long ago a local store, and it may have been Best Buy but I don't remember, was having a contest. If you applied for their credit card you were automatically entered into a drawing to win $25,000. The pitch was "What would YOU do if I offered you $25,000?"
MY answer was (Loudly) "I'd pee in my fuckin' pants!"

Spoken like a man.
I bet you do that with nuts and bolts too.

Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
Okay, well I would have taken my old one in for comparison, except that I was in such a hurry and the store was closing that I didn't, so I merely flipped over my lap top, wrote down the 4.5A and all the rest of the stuff and got in the car and zoomed away..
Now, computer question: You don't necessarily need a battery on a lap top in order for a power source from the wall to work do you?

In general, no you don't. However it does leave your laptop exposed to power glitches which the battery would otherwise absorb.

I'm sorry this happened! But, wait for me!! I wanna witness this!!!
It's not good to have the computer running just from the power source. Of course, you could always use a surge protector for short periods of time...but...
Don't worry, Gygner...I wouldn't have thought to take the battery with me, either. It would have pissed me off just as much to get all the way there after being told that they have something to find out that I'd made the trip...and they DON'T have it.

The first time I went in I did bring it in and the idiot still gave me the wrong one. ::)

Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
You can run the laptop on AC with a bad battery, but you can't run it on NO battery or you'll fry it.

Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
I hear you. I am lucky that I have a brother who is a computer geek and tells me what I need because the people at Best Buy, Comp USA, etc. have NO clue. Same goes for the people who do tech support for Dell. I almost had a nervous breakdown dealing with them...or maybe I actually did. I came really close to throwing the computer across the room.

Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
Reason for taking a laptop in is to test out the power adapter. For example it could not only be the entire wrong one, but it could be the right one which is Defective.
Service is not what is used to be in almost any area. The younger workers have gotten too self-centered and too stupid to give service to anyone else. It's only when we ourselves don't get good service that we fret about the REST of the service industry.
It only takes the majority of these poor workers to sure all of us face incompetence often in our lives. For example I can only rarely get a burger fixed the way I want it. They just don't have the attention span to take a short order.

Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
First, I go to best buy... to return the one I got last night.. and the stupid monkey (no offense to anyone!)high school punks who work there look at me like I'm completely off my gord and tell me that there is "no such thing as a universal adapter"... then some other dude who was listening in buts in and corrects them, and he ends up helping me, and he's a damn customer.. finally a sales person helps me and we try out three of them there and they don't fit.... off to Circus City...
The dude there was more interested in football than his job... no adapters.. comp usa....
So I drive down the road to comp usa.. and there are people everywhere (its Sunday.. at noon.. don't these people have some place to be? Or is Sunday the automatic designated electronic shopping day?) All kids... I ask this one girl, "Are you helping someone.." Her response: "I don't know anything, I'm just a cashier". niiiiice.. well sweetheart, you take your "I don't know anything attitude and good luck in life, you're gonna need it"... then Napolean Dynamite helps me (yep, he looked just like him) starts talking in super geek techie mode.. tells me that he loves the model of lap top, its older, but its a keeper, is asking me all sorts of shit like how much memory it has, etc... I finally say, "look, I need an adapter.. that's all, can you help me? Please?" We try out four of them there, only to find that they seem to not work, but the outlet, we find out, isn't working.. then we try them on another outlet.. ah, we have power, but they still don't fit for the lap top...
Called it a fucking day. Came home, did a search, found one on the interent. It will be here on Tuesday. Why didn't I just do this before? Oooooh no.. I have to go and put myself through store hell.. I'm thinking its a fairly large city, there will be one some place.. the first time, we never checked in any stores, so we just got it off the internet... my inner voice told me to just buy off the internet.. but nope, I've become spoiled being able to type emails and things in BED... I don't want to get up and sit in a chair when I can be in bed.. why would I want to do that? Oh, the shame of it all, I have become spoiled with a damn computer...
Shopping + Gynger = raging redhead...
I hate to shop. I do I do I do..

Ha! You should see the clueless fuckers I meet in cubicles.
Company provided training is a thing of the past for corporate America. You need to find it, fund it, and figure it out yourself. And don't let it interfere with your 40+ hour work week!!!

Ahem, about two months ago, I ordered the "hotcakes & sausage" for my breakfast at a local Mc D's. The woman who took my order then asked me why I was still standing at her register. I told her, "Because I still need a fork, knife, syrup and butter," although looking back, I should have used a much more sarcastic voice inflection than I did...oh, and btw, she was the day manager at this Mc D's, and not one of the "drone" worker bees!

I've had that happen at Radio Shack. wtf?
And my brother who KNOWS what he's doing has had a guy literally stare at him and follow him while he was trying to find what he wants in Comp USA. My brother got freaked out and felt like he had a stalker. He kept telling the guy "I don't need help," and he'd turn around and freak boy would still be standing there next to him. But then how much does it pay to work there? I doubt they're going to hire someone who really knows what they're doing at the rate of pay they offer.

Re: Customer service and lack of knowledge!
so, get this one, since we are going to talk about McD's and youth at its finest! This happened to me a few weeks ago..
A really fun thing to do to some dumb lazy teenager or 20-something who hasn't taken the time to learn the basics of life is to go into McDonalds or Kwiki Mart and, say for example, your bill comes to $6.77. Give them $7 plus 2 pennies and watch the deer-in-the-headlights-fun-and-games begin! Good times, good times. This kid tried to give me back $6 in change before he realized that wasnt right. Then he just stood there like a toy monkey (ya know the one that claps the cymbals together) whose batteries had died. I finally told him, "It's a quarter." and he says, "Oh, yeah. My brain's not working yet today.". Sad, since it was 2:30 in the afternoon. Oh well...... .a sad commentary on today's youth and the lack of common sense work skills that will get them through life. Everyone should know how to count change back. So says me... although, he did compliment me on what I was wearing.. and I have to admit.. my boobies looked really nice in what I was wearing!!!}:D
