It took under a year. I was self taught. Studied videos, performances , researched physics, started in the playgrounds. Had enough confidence to teah a class next year.
If you can find a nice girl to show you that would be best because you can really hurt yourself. Different poles have different grippyness. Like at the club I am at now I can climb the pole (usually) but atn the one before I couldn't because it was too slippery. I have been dancing since August. I only know 3 pole tricks and will only do two on stage. You just have to practice. You will get A LOT of bruises.
That's an understatement. You will actually be a walking, talking bruise for several weeks after each new pole trick you practice. ;)Quote:

I got my moves from other dancers (this is the best way) and from books and videos.
If the club was dead I would practice with other girls. Most clubs Ive worked at had 2 stages..one open and one not.
Just took me alot of time of off and on practicing. Im not as good as Id like to be though. I still have to smooth out my moves. I can hang upside down now and slowly move down the pole to the floor but my thighs MY THIGHS!! They scream!
I just kind of happened upon my first and only pole trick after about three weeks of dancing. I had already been swinging around it, and I just watched the other girls. One night, I tried climbing it a little, wrapped my thighs around it and realized it was just one more step to hanging upside down, so I did it. That was about a week and a half ago, and the more I do it, the smoother it gets (It was really awkward the first time I did it, but I was damn proud of myself after that). However, I was real drunk one night sliding down the pole upside down, rested my upper back and neck on the floor, and tried to bring my knees down in front of me so that my ass would be sticking up in the air, but I realized too late that I was on the side of the pole that was closer to the edge of the stage. Basically, I flipped off the stage (heard freaky cracking noises in my neck) and landed on the floor (on my feet, though). I looked around for a second, realized it was the end of the song anyway, put my hands up and smiled, grabbed my clothes off the stage and went home to lay on a heating pad for the rest of the night.
do you think it's important to know pole tricks before you start dancing? will i be ok with just floor work, non-pole dancing etc. for a while?
pole work is over rated. I have fallen off a few times (oil from last dancer, and sometimes my own sweat). It is fun to do, but it definately doesn't increase the income.
Nope...Ive seen girls who have never been in a SC before get a job and do fine on stage. Everyone catches on to the pole or does and doesnt care for pole tricks in time.Quote:

cidiera thank you for sharing the hilarious story...good save at the end ;)
When i danced, i started at a dive that was never busy in the afternoons. A very nice and talented dancer taught me some basic swings but i really never got the confidence to practice the moves on stage. I later bought a tape (pole cats!) and my boyfriend installed a pole and needless to say, I stepped up my game. I still can't do inverted moves though. I agree that pole dancing doesn't necessarily result in more money. I made plenty just dancing suggestively around the thing. but it is fun and it feels good to get a move down.
It took me a long time to learn any pole work, and I mostly aviod the thing today. I needed to weight train for months and months to get the upper body strength to climb the pole high enough to do any tricks.
As far as needing to know pole tricks to make money, it is totally not nessessary. Knowing how to hustle will go much further in making you lots of $$$ then any stage trick you can learn :).

I'm actually taking a class right now to learn a few moves, but as long as you can do a little twirl here and there that's all you really need. I think it does make a difference in money, but then again i'm not a man and i'm basing my opinion only of my husband who actually enjoys the dance part of stripping as well as the naked girls.
