Have I totally screwed up?
Hello ladies,
I need some advice. First of all I live in Western Canada, and where I live there are only 2 companys that dancers work through. Last May I did an amateur night through a company called independent artists. The problem is is that on the night of the amateur I had a devastating personal tragedy that was indirectly related to my amateur night.
The guy who sets the girls up for the shows called me many times. At the time I was in complete shock and didn't want to talk to anybody, so I ignored his few phone calls asking how things went. I was very angry at myself and blamed myself because of what happened (albeit indirectly). Now it has been some months and I think I am over my grief, and have moved past blaming myself for what happened.
I want to go through this company because I have heard good things about it. A month after that night, I called him back for another amateur night.... but he completely blew me off. I think it was too soon anyways.
I realize that I probably deserved it (he didnt know what happened, and now I sound like a flake) but I want another chance. Maybe this is a stupid question but a) do you think I have completely blown it, and b) would it sound lame if I tried to explain myself? I really don't want it to come to that.
I don't know what to do...
Re: Have I totally screwed up?
I don't know what kind of personal tragedy, but I'm sure if you wrote him a letter about it you'd be more likely to get somewhere . . .
Re: Have I totally screwed up?
I'm sorry that you had to go through whatever it was that caused you so much grief! I hope that you are dealing well and if you need to talk i'm always here.
With that said, yes you should probably explain yourself to him to whatever extent that you can. If he doesn't know what went on then he will think you are just not worth it, but if you explain yourself he may have some compassion and decide that you deserve another chance. If all else fails go to the other company. I'm not sure how they are compared to this one, but at least you would be able to get some work! Good luck and take care!!
Re: Have I totally screwed up?
Yeah, everyone has problems. If you could get a personal one-on-one appointment to talk to him I think it would be better.
Tell him what happened. Chances are he's either gone through something similar or knew someone who has, and he'll be sympathetic. If not, would you really waht to work for/with someone like that anyway?
A side note: I don't think it was the best move to blow him off like that in the 1st place, but not it's time to do damage control.
Re: Have I totally screwed up?
I would definitly explain to him what happened and tell him that you apologized for not getting back to him
Re: Have I totally screwed up?
Call him and ask if you can come in as you would like to explain what happened ,alternately maybe you could meet one of the other agents with Independent, Murray's nice.
Bonus tip, don't call on Monday's or Thursday's as they are super busy on those day's and might just blow you off .Remember to keep it short, they don't need your life story.Hope this helps, good luck and maybe I'll meet you one day
Re: Have I totally screwed up?
Well, try the competition or relocate- it's not your fault, but this is a bad foot to start off on with this agency you're talking about......I suffered much for agency politics-drama when I started dancing ( I worked for a woman who burned all her bridges, who used to work for the best in the area......when I went to the best, that agency didn't trust me.....because of boss #1.)
A lot of strippers make up "tragedy" stories where there is none for attention or excuses.........ruins it for honest girls- but anyhow no one wants drama, baggage etc. coming through the door with a new girl.....there's enough of that after the fact.....
Not meaning to be harsh, just speaking from my experience.....start over. Sounds like there are better pickings elsewhere.
Re: Have I totally screwed up?
Go see them in person and apologise and/or explain. I've only heard good about Independent- I'm sure they'll understand.
Plus, if it's anything like Van, they're always desperate for new girls to fill up the ammie nights, so all will be forgotten soon enough.
Re: Have I totally screwed up?
Thank you very much everyone who replied!
Hindsight is 20/20, and I agree that I made a mistake by blowing him off, but at the time it was the last thing I wanted to deal with.
I don't really want to explain, it's fairly personal I think and I would feel uncomfortable just trying to. But I'll definitely consider all the suggestions you girls have given me. Thanks again!

Hey thanks a lot for this! The agent I went through was Dale, I just assumed he was the only one. :D Silly me.
