Switching to Nights
I did amatuer night in my club about a month ago, & placed. I talked to the nightshift manager that night, who has a reputation for being a TOTAL ass. After he found out I had no experience at all, he asked if I mind starting out on days, because we were in the off season, but later on I could move to nights.
My first day, when I was leaving he asked how I did, & then said again, "We'll get you moved to nights soon enough"
The main dj who i just met last night right away asked why i wasn't on night shift, along with 1 of the bouncers whose been there for 15 years. he's told me repeatedly that i'll get on nights, blah blah blah. Soooo I'm just wondering how I should go about asking? I know a lot of day girls want nights, but I refuse to be turned down, so what would you girls do?

Re: Switching to Nights
Just be blunt. Go to the general manager and ask "Can I please start on night shifts?" If he says no, not yet then ask "Is there anything that I can work on improving that will get me on night shift quicker?" That sounds very professional and managers don't expect that, so they love it when they hear it!

Re: Switching to Nights
Ask!!! If they say no you won't loose anything, anyways!

Re: Switching to Nights
I've been wondering about this, too. Is there a certain ammount of time you should work at a club before asking about nights? Should you try to "prove" yourself on day shifts and then ask, or should you just go for it?
Also, what differences should I expect on night shifts? I've always worked days...

Re: Switching to Nights
Most clubs will try to make girls work days if the club can get away with it because they are usually short on day girls. There are a few cities where days are better than nights but Tampa isn't one of them.
I would tell them that you can no longer work days. They will most likely let you work nights rather than lose you . If you feel the need to butter them up a little bit offer to work Sunday nights as one of your shifts.

Re: Switching to Nights
Maybe say that your day regulars want to come in again for bachlour party (or whatever reason) and you would like to work that one night. If they let you, really tip out good at nights, then maybe the night dj,manager whatever, will have reason to put you on nights. Or something along those lines. Tipping anyone that has power is always helped me. I have tipped my way to the top many of times.
