loans for breast augmentation?
I'm trying to get a loan for a boob job, and I've seen several magazines ads of doctorsayyes.org.
They told me that I qualified for a loan, but that I'd have to put down $500 thru the phone, to set an appointment with the doctor. They gave me the name of the doctor that would be performing the surgery, and after doing some research, I found out that he is, indeed, a surgeon.
The thing is that it kind of looked like a scam, the girl that I was talking to, was waaay desperate to get me to give them the down payment, and they sent me tons of emails.
I told her that I'd think about it, my question is, has anyone ever used that company? they also have some other websites under a different name, but I can't remember them.
What's your thought on this? any experiences?
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
Choose a doctor that YOU like, then he or she should be able to give you the contact information for one or more companies that finance medical procedures.
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
Hmm, not sure about this one.
I am familiar with Cosmetic Fee Plan (through Capital One) and CareCredit (through GE Capital). I currently use CareCredit for various procedures like laser hair removal, etc. They have a pretty low interest rate. My credit score falls between fair/good and I got a $7500 limit.
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
AAAAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!! No way sounds like a scam. I have breast implants and had the surgery financed. The first thing I did was I found the surgeon I wanted to use and then they referred me to a couple of banks they used for financing. I went to the bank and applied for a medical loan. It was really easy the loan officer seemed familiar with the areas plastic surgeons.I had 1000 saved up so I put that down and financed 3500.I pay $100 a month. My advice is to find the surgeon you would like to use first and then he could maybe refer you to someone or I think maybe some surgeons even can try to finance you there in the office.
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
I know who you called.
You got the number out of a magazine right? Where they say lipo for like 2999 and breast aug for 3999 or something.
Yea... I ended up not using them because i found my own surgeon through a referral that was decent priced and kicked ass. For some reason I just didn't trust them!
I would say look around yourself and SAVE!
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
I use Carecredit and they're insistent on getting their monthly payment since they can't repossess my body parts (teeth, specifically). What if you get the boob job and then can't strip/ work to pay it off (recovery time, then possible injury, emergency, etc....) Your credit could be affected.
Save up for it. You can put half down and then pay off the rest with a local doc, like some dentists do.
Don't ever give anyone your money unless you can find them later and wrench it back out of them.....heh
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
I say scam. I've had several consults and each doctor does it free. If you have to PAY $500 just to go see the doc...that's a bad sign. I'm not paying anyone $500 for a consult. There are plenty of other "boob" finance companies out there that work with other doctors. Did they give you the name of the doctor you would be seeing? Do you know ANYTHING about that doctor?
I think you should go get consults with other docs...
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
a lot of reputable doctors charge for a consult, but we are talking a nominal fee ($50-100) for their time. But this is the doctor, not the finance company. They should also let you finance the fees.
I saw on a BA discussion board that people with bad credit were getting loans with something like 18% APR plus a $2500 "processing fee" which they financed as well. This was legit, apparently.
Options like CareCredit are only available it you have decent credit. It is essentially a credit card dressed up like something else.
Choose doctor first and talk to him/her about financing. I'm sure they are used to people doing it in that order and have companies they like to work with.
Or....save the money.
God, I can't imagine letting a finance company telling me who was going to put a knife to my body.
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
Thanks everyone for your inputs
I tried applying Carecredit, but they want a co-signer (i don't have enough credit history) so well, i guess i'll have to save the money..
Has anyone had a boob job in New York? or know any doctors here that offer financing themselves (no company)? I found one that I like, but it costs like $8500, i think it's expensive, as far as I know, it costs about $5000. It's supposed to be an excellent doctor though, but still..
tampafldancer : Yes, it's that ad...i guess it IS a scam :P
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
That sounds shady to me. Sounds like a scam.
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
I was able to get a personal loan from my bank... my dad has really good credit & he co-signed for me. Honestly though, here in Florida, most of the boob jobs I've seen are HORRIBLE... I don't know where you're from or who you're planning to go to, but MAKE SURE you know atleast 1 or 2 people who have went to that doctor, & you can see their before & after results.
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
I got a personal loan as well, Bank of NY sent a promotional letter offering a nice rate on personal loans--it was just a lucky timing sort of thing.
Also, $8500 for a good surgeon in NY sounds reasonable. I paid $6000 for cohesive silicone in Minneapolis, and anything on east/west coast is pricier than it is here.

If nothing else, why don't you save up half, and then go to the Dr. personally and ask him if he does a finance plan?
Just becasue you have a short credit history does not mean that you will be denied if you have over half of the balance already there.
I know a girl I work with that has the worst credit on the planet, lol. So wanted to buy a 2003 Hummer. She went to the dealership and got denied. The next year (after busting her ass) she went back showed them her bank statements with the total she had, and got approved for the remainder of the loan. She had half in the bank and they took the chance on her not making the other half so they would get not only their Hummer back but the money she had in the bank.
She ended up paying the financed half of the car off in 10 months and they were amazed, lol.
She told them that she was younger them and stupid, but since she was older she knew more about credit.
Since you do have a smaller cedit history this might work. As well as building up a better credit hisotry that will help in the long run.

Do not borrow money from a club owner or manager. It is sentence to slavery. First, they will steer you to a buddy who's a doctor who kicks back a percentage to the club owner. The loan will be for a lot more than the usual medical fees and with very high interest. Then the club owner will be able to dictate your working hours to get repayment.

That's usually true, but not always.
I have met quite a few club owners who are not like that, but for the most part; yes you are right.
Re: loans for breast augmentation?
I'm pretty sure that the driving force behind the 'discount plastic surgery' referral agency offers is this. For any professional, time is money. Therefore, for a plastic surgeon, maximum efficiency/income only happens when patients/surgeries are solidly booked for the days that the doctor plans on working. If the doctor is located in an area where the local economy / seasonal business levels / last minute cancellations / whatever reason don't provide for enough local patients to keep his schedule full, it's certainly in the doctor's best interest to elicit a referral agency to seek additional patients from outside the local area.
Think about it this way ... if the doctor has to be at the hospital to perform 2 plastic surgeries on his own local patients taking 2 hours each, since the doctor is already 'suited up' and ready to roll, adding a third patient from outside the local area to fill out the day's surgery schedule amounts to lots of additional income in exchange for very little extra effort. Thus the doctor can afford to offer a discounted price ... PROVIDING that the third patient is willing to accept a doctor who has openings in his schedule ... PROVIDING that the third patient is willing to accept a time schedule dictated by the doctor's office and not her own desires ... PROVIDING that the doctor gets paid in cash by the referral agency etc.
Because it's impossible to 'repossess' breast implants if the patient falls behind in her payments, financing a BA is indeed considered to be an 'unsecured' loan. Most doctors' offices do NOT really want to get involved in financing of surgeries because of the extra paperwork, effort and risk involved - although some will consider doing so for local patients with a 'stable' presence in the community. In general, a dancer who is unmarried, who does not own a home, who doesn't have a 'regular job', who has no deep 'roots' in the local community etc. represents a high risk of potential collection problems - after all she could simply decide to pack up and move to a different city/state tomorrow. Thus doctors look to shift these risks to a referral/financing agency as well, which pays the doctor up front and which handles all of the financing paperwork, monthly payment processing, and collections efforts. And because of the high risk of potential loan default and the lack of 'repossession' as a tool to recover part of the loan when default occurs, financing agencies treat BA loans as 100% unsecured and charge high interest rates accordingly.
As far as New York City plastic surgery prices, $8,500 for a BA is not unusual. This is one reason that, even though I live in NY, I've travelled as far as Houston, TX for a BA - where the going rate is more like $4-5,000 . That sort of cost difference covers a whole lot of air fare, hotel stays, and rental car expenses - especially when booked several weeks in advance. If you don't want to travel a long distance, going rates for BA's are quite a bit lower in north Jersey and upstate NY cities than in NYC city itself, too.
Where seeking a BA loan from your club is concerned, the Sopranos episode did overdramatize the possible consequences (clubowner Sil dragging a dancer out of another mobster's bed to drag her back to work at the club ... so she could continue to pay off her BA loan). However, it wasn't altogether fictional. Clubowners of all people know how unreliable some dancers can be ! So any clubowner who agrees to loan several grand to a dancer is going to have HIGH expectations in regard to that dancer continuing to work at the club until the loan has been repaid, in regard to the dancer doing whatever's necessary to earn enough money to make loan payments on time etc.
