From what I hear, sometimes it's worth it, sometimes it isn't. Go in on an amatuer night, and see how they run the show. Find out how much 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place is. The least you can do is try. Even if you do not win, you still may be offered a job.

It's fun and you can end up with a job if you show them that you like dancing. Most places will offer you a job if you are having fun being on stage.
If I already dance at one club, is it okay to go to another club's Amateur Night? My club doesn't have one and is NOT a big moneymaker, and some of the clubs around here have $1000 Amateur Night prizes. Mighty tempting...
Make sure you know that your home club doesn't have a rule about going to other clubs in the area. In my area the club owner and manager at the opposite club pretty much hate each other so they both have signs posted in the dressing rooms saying you will be fired if you dance at the other club.
Since you are in a much larger area I wouldn't see why it would be a problem, as long as you aren't taking the night off at your home club to go do amateur night.
It all depends on what you want out of it. If you are looking to win the $$ chances are,you wont if your new to dancing. Not to sound mean, but the contests usually have other club dancers there so Its really not an amataur contest.Or its compleatly rigged from the start as of whos to win.(usually house pads it,and takes back half) But..I started dancing this way,I entered one being never danced in my life. I was pathetic up there,I knew no one, even went solo. But they offered me a job, said they would gaurante I'd make more money here then my 2 jobs I currently had. I went for it,and they were right! So it all depends what you want out of the contest. Good luck!
I just want the prize money, and to see what another club is like. I'm a decent dancer and have been at this club for a few months. I think I'll give it a go some night and see what happens, why not. I just wondered how much trouble I'd be in if I got caught.
Lots of girls at our club dance at other clubs so I don't see a problem there. I just figured I'm not technically an amateur since I do already dance somewhere else. But $1000 prize money sounds pretty damn sweet...
I did amateur night at the club I work for, & tied for 3rd with another girl, we both got jobs there. First place was $250, second was $150, & third was $100... me & the other girl had to split the third place prize, which sucked, but it was better than nothing. When I called to ask about working there, I was told I had to participate in amateur night as my audition. SOOO I wouldn't say they're a total bust, depending on where you go. Definitely call beforehand & ask a lot of questions though, that's what I did.
thanx ladies
I'll go check it out first and see whats what! I'm going to take my stuff with me in case I want to try out. The prize is $450. I'll keep ya posted!
