How much $$ to start dancing?
I was just curious how much new dancers are investing in their career before they ever hit the stage?
I know that I spend on average $25,000.00 a year on dancing/business expenses, including costumes, travel expenses, music, electronic equipment (cd's, iPod, computer and internet access, lighting equipment, cell phone etc.), beauty care, personal trainers, gym memberships, and on and on.
But when I got started, I'm trying to remember how much I spent on my first week danicng. I think I bought two pair of shoes, a couple of outfits, used some outfits I already had, used cd's I already had, I bought a tanning package, and caught rides from friends to and from work. There was no licensing where I started, and the club was kinda a dump. So maybe $200 total?
Just wondering what it is going to cost a new dancer today to start out?
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
Ummm I think I spent ALOT more than $200. I've been thinking about dancing for a few years now. With this years income tax, I got a little ebay happy. I bought up so much stuff. i was like actually conversating with the mailman AND the UPS man everyday!
I figured, hey if I'm spending all this money on this crap, I'm gonna use it. Hahhaha well besides my tiny weekend stint at one club..I never danced again. But I have gotten to use my dancer clothes and shoes in my modeling gigs, so it's all good!
But eventhough I am a total newbie, I have learned so much from this place that I KNOW once I do work a club, I'll be raking in the dough.
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
I spent maybe $90-$150 when I started 11 years ago just on heels.I was 17 and I used my dresses I had for school dances and did the whole prom queen bit.
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
spent 60 on shoes, 35 on a minidress and 10 on a thong. Didn't go overboard b/c I didn't know if I would keep doing it or not.
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
I only just started dancing, and I started preparing for this around early September.
Gym membership start costs - $160 (three months' payment and the fee)
Really nice clip-in hair extensions -- $50
Wig - $50 (this didn't actually turn out to be necessary, but I'm still glad I got it -- increases my range of looks)
Shoes -- $40
Additions to my makeup and beauty collection -- around $27
Assorted outfit pieces -- $50 (augmented by a gift certificate I earned by modeling for a local shop)
So, wow, that's about $375. I get my student loans in big chunks in my savings account, so that's where the money came from -- I was confident enough that I'd get returns on my investment that I was willing to go to the effort and do this right.
Improving my general looks has also helped me get nude modeling work.
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
I spent about $90 on two outfits, $25 on tans and $20 on a hairpiece (and i already had the shoes). I wore the hairpiece the first night, but the second night I came in another dancer told me I looked better with my hair down so I've been trying that ever since.
I've been dancing for a little over two weeks now and I've made my second trip out and spent $50 on more thongs and panty things. Only have time to do laundrey so often :)
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
The club where I started offered free tanning to all the female employees, thank God.
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
$0. Wore the shortest tightest dress and highest heels in my closet and the club gave me a t-back my first night. I had noooooooo clue.
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
Hrm: I think it was something like....$30 for a mini dress, $40 for a 2 piece outfit, $15 thong, and I wore my shoes from my prom. Gas money was like $10. I had no clue how to dress myself.
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
Ok I am old. I was just recollecting the other day that I bought my first pair of stripper pumps for $18 bucks at the mall and that a Christian Dior bra and panty set was an unheard of 35 bucks!
I wanted to win the amatuer contest so that I could buy the $40 dollar evening gloves to match.
Big spender back then.
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
Hmm... well, honestly, I don't think it takes that much. You need one cute outfit, one nice pair of shoes, and you probably allready have make up. Remember, you're just starting out!! In a couple weeks, you can buy more stuff. And if you're really nice to the girls, they will prolly lend you stuff too. I say 200 dollars would cut it. Unless you have to pay for like a business liscence or sherrif's cards, then 300 dollars.
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
I'm 22 and I have always had a facination and a curiosity for stripping. I plan to audition in a month once I get my body perfect and I practice some more moves. I have been seriously thinking about doing this since my last year of college and thus far have spent quite a fortune:
$500 prepaid 3 yr gym membership at a nice gym and 4 personal training sessions
$8,000 breat implants (lovely D cups that look so natural you could never tell- best $ I ever spent and would have spent regardless of whether or not I ever got into stripping)
$50 or so on tuturial things: S factor book, Jenna Jameson's book, stripper contest DVDs, Carmen Electra's DVDs, Dancing at the Blue Lagoon... already had Showgirls and Striptease
already have some clear "Cloudy" shoes and tons of hair and makeup items but plan on buying a black pair of shoes, one outfit and some thongs for under $100
need to get a Shiriff's card (moved to Vegas)
I finished college with a full time job, diligently saving up $ for at least 2 years, which is how I came to afford all of this. I figure as you grow older you work smarter not harder (although I feel stripping is hard work just like any other job- the harder you work the more $) and this is the only way I can make the big bucks to invest it into my future.
The only problem is my nerves!! But I am so excited and I hope the girls are nice!
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
littletassle...sounds like you should be just about ready to start dancing! Do you have any clubs in mind? I would suggest starting now because you've spent such a long time investing into it. In the first two weeks of dancing you'll be surprised with all the changes and the workout that you get! I say go for it! Don't worry it's not as scary as you're making it out to be in your head!
Re: How much $$ to start dancing?
Hi! Yeah, I've been thinking about Spearmint Rhino and Scores just opened up- I'm a little intimidated by Club Paradise but that one is high on my list too. Going to go visit them with my bf soon- he totally supports me and he funded our move to Vegas and secured a job before moving here. I think I read that you recently auditioned- congrats!! I think I'm the most scared about stage performances and guys getting too forward during lap dances. If they do what do you do? I think I'm much too nice of a person and need to develop the bitch inside me lol! }:D
