I like the Futureheads quite a bit. I LOVE Maximo Park; they are definitely my favorite of the current literate Brit bands. Have you heard the Long Blondes? They're female-led and punky.
Having grown up in Austin I've seen Spoon shows for twelve years so I tend to consider them an older indie band, more experienced and developed than newer ones. Britt Daniel has grown into an incredible songwriter. He is a massive Julian Cope/Teardrop Explodes fan so there's your post-punk connection.
Same here. Love, love, love them. I used portions of Jolly Roger as a segue between songs this past Halloween for my Pirate set.
And you're right, they were considered punk in the Dirk Wears White Sox era. Just listen to Xerox or Car Trouble...totally not like anything they did from Kings Of The Wild Frontier and after.
And Whip In My Valise is a great song to strip to. I edited out the hard and fast part because it was too hard to dance to and ended up with a very sexy song that just begs to use props during it.
Man susan you just gave me new bands to download!!! lol we need to swap lists.!
Sorta on the same level...kinda...
Metric ( poster of a girl )
of course Le Tigre
Tegan and Sarah arent' post punk really....not too sure what they are other than 2 lesiban twins. but their music is awesome.
I cannot stress enough Tv on the radio. swear to god
Heavens ( patent pending!! )..I cannot believe i forgot to mention them.
Wolfmother _ you will LOVE THEM!!
Boy from Brazil
Boy kill Boy - Suzie.
The sounds and Shiny toy guns ( these both are getting massive radio play now ,not sure how I feel about that. ) Although they are more disco driven ..worth a listen to though.
clap your hands and say yeah! ( I LOVE this band fuck that I heart this band.) very early talking heads sorta feel. I think they are coming out with a new album. There is only one though now and its their first release, It came out i think 2 years ago. Amazing and worth a listen. _ skin of my yellow country teeth....makes me so happy. best song. and so is over and over. and gimmie some salt.
arcade fire is very post with a bizarre twist of folk in it. Sorta reminds me of a sonic youth feel to it. before they considered the early 90s late 80s seattle movement. Maybe even a lil touch of velvet underground. I know david bowie is a HUGE fan
When I go through my ipod i'll list a few others. I know there were many that were on the palooza lineup
How the hell i glossed over
bloc party
the bravery
and broken social scene is beyond me. I just was in the shower and all three played..
again i'll state ..I love new wave &Brit pop
Tart; Good call on the Wolfmother... ya might wanna give the new Angelspit album "Krankhaus" a listen........track 7 "Make You Sin" has a sound you might enjoy!
^ having the bf download it now
Im open to anything along the lines of the stuff I dig. I always need new stuff to fill up the remaining 50 gigs on my damn ipod
Know the gig - gig!8) I saw where you mentioned UK Subs (nice blast from the past!) but have yet to see anyone mention DRI, Bad Brains, or Government Issue.......sigh......good stuff from good times!!
ahh yes bad brains!!! smack to me for that one!
reagan youth , oh GBH was awesome... Operation IVY , Oh the kinks. Circle jerks ...sooooo incredible. Subhumans :) :) :) ( dying world is soooo my old fave on that shit )
I can't believe i just remembered subhumans lol. dude..i havent thought of this band in easily 15 years.
micky mouse is dead , I THINK might be on the same album. holy hell its been far too long. I have got to get my bf to download that shit too
Crass was along the same lines as subhuman. I had both of those tapes lol. banned from the roxy was a great song on a crass album

I need to ask a question and who better to answer it than you people. I thought bands like DRI were considered hardcore? Is 80's hardcore considered post punk?
Well, at least we considered them hardcore at L'Amour in Brooklyn. But I could be wrong.
Great bands previously mentioned. Circle Jerks, wow. Man, I miss High School.
yah they are hardcore, same with minor threat , reagan youth
but i figure if ATB and NIN can be on this thread...then well...so can hardcore lol
When you think post punk/ you sorta think along the lines of new wave but not like cheesy ass new wave. Hard to explain that one.
How the cure is considered post punk .. and so is Adam and the ants...or Richard Hell.
Hell even Elvis Costello ( cant believe we havent mentioned him yet )
or at least with the same kinda basics to it.
Cramps, DK ... thats punk
Then there is hardcore which we've covered.
Punk was first I believe, then hardcore ( but im sure my bf will argue that shit ) then there was post punk.
Post punk was more like 1979 or around the early 80's.
Then it slowly drifted into New wave...
then goth...
Oh what a tangled web we're weaving here, lol. Maybe we need to do some type of org chart to sort this out, ha ha ha.
And I would tend to agree with your BF on the order of things. First punk, then New Wave, then Hardcore.
And I definitely know what you mean about cheesy ass new wave. Unfortunately, graduating from HS in 1983, I was exposed to a lot of it when MTV first started and actually still like some of it.
But my passion will always be for things sort of to the left of reality. And I scared the crap outta my friends and family with my DK fanaticism.
I remember getting ready for church blasting Dog Bite and having my stepdad coming in and threatening to take my stereo over that one.
No i was stating i think it was Punk, Hardcore ( because hardcore was going on in the early 80's ) then post punk ..but im thinking post punk was prob happening around the same time. because it went into new wave and some bands ventured into the goth era.
I think this might be our most interesting music thread yet.
Its fun to see those with similar shit. Its always amazing to go " wow " there is another dancer out there that isnt listening to fucking 50 cent or listening to nicklecrap.
i was starting to think that it was a lost cause.
DRI were hardcore for the first couple of albums. Then they went all weird and metal with "Crossover". Nice addition, though. Should we now add MDC (in all their various acronym formations), FEAR!!...um....Doggy Style, Dayglo Abortions, JFA, etc etc. Oh. and what about Cro-Mags? Didnt we have a similar thread about all this a while ago? Fuck. I'm going to bed. Nite.
PS: RAWR!!!!...shit, hold it, too slow.
:::rock rock rock::: BARK BARk, MEOOOOOOOOW.
DOG BITE! ON MY LEG!!! NOT RIGHT! SUPPOSED TO BEG!!! (etc)
dammit. now i must put on assorted DK albums without waking the wifey. Do you have the Jello/DOA album? that's some crazy hot rockin shizz right there. anyhoooooo. as i said. g'nite.
^ i mentioned cro mags
and yes dayglo abortions!!!!
I'll admit i use to like voodoo glowskulls
what about Murphys law or Gorilla biscuits ?
I'll bite on the Murphy's Law. We definitely considered them hardcore in the day as well as the Cromags.
And Tart, I'm really glad you're here. The only gals I have ever found that like this stuff are on SW. I have never met anyone in my 18 years of dancing that would even consider dancing to any of this.
I am soooo lucky that I have DJs that will play anything that my little heart desires.
And I know they're way commercial, but I still love dancing to Submission by the Pistols. It's a way of having my cake and eating it too. Get to hear what I like (kind of) and not alienating anyone either.
Mr.Chris you never cease to amaze.....MDC....the steam that poured out of my ears as my foggy soggy noodle was digging deep to recall "Corporate Deathburger" and that damn cool half cop/klan picture.........."Blue by day White by night"....gonna have to wipe off the windows!! We did leave out one though.........Dag Nasty!! Shit....... then there is of course Wendy O' (maybe not for the music but those videos:) Tart; Let me know what you thought of that Angelspit song....thanx!
^^ wendy O. !! whatever happened to her anyways? she did stage show things forawhile or at least so I saw pictures and old video at a friends apt once way back.
I will let you know. Im going over to his apt tomorrow.
Wendy O died a few years ago.
Yup, Wendy O killed herself. Right around the time Rozz Williams hung himself, if I recall correctly. Maimed, I HATED Dag Nasty. That "Wig Out at Denko's, something something EAT DORITOS!" song. Ugh. My old room mate liked them and I wanted to punch him in the head. Oh here's another one. SNFU "And Nobody Else Wanted To Play" I think it was called. SOD, MOD...what was that one..something nazi something but the album was called "SUrf Nicarauga!". No Means No. I also really liked old Butthole Surfers before they turned into Beck. Bleh...I need coffee.
Surf Nicaragua was by Sacred Reich, another thrash metal band.
And I can't believe it took us this long to get to SOD and MOD. Forgot all about them...for personal reasons.
Billy Milano spit in my drink (hey that beer cost 50 cents!) after I smacked him for grabbing me inappropriately. Nasty bastard.
Yep hardcore came after punk. First hardcore groups where from Cali, Orange County in particiliar. Wow has this brought back memories.
Some good stuff:
Flipper - "Sex Bomb" Well really sludge core.
Agent Orange - "Bloodstains"
Black Flag - "Wasted"
Angry Samoans - "The Todd Killings"
The Stains - "John Wayne Was a Nazi"
Dead Kenndys - "California Uber Alles"
Avengers - "American in Me"
Urinals - "Im a Bug"
