The Dwarves still tour? My God.
I like Roxy Music, and I think that can be considered post punk. If I recall, New wave and Post Punk are synonymous. . .it's called new Wave cos it's "the new wave of punk".
Is this correct?
yes ^
To quote musicheads, Roxy Music bridged the gap from glam rock to nascent New Wave..but the quality of musicianship is so high that they are in a class by themselves. If you listen to Simon Le Bon's manner of singing (Duran Duran) you can hear he uses the same inflections as Bryan Ferry.
Roxy Music was hugely influential. Listen to any punk or post-punk guitarist and you’ll hear a little bit of Phil Manazera. Or buy a post-punk CD, flip it over and read the credits. Don’t be surprised if it was produced by Brian Eno. If Roxy didn’t exist, punk and post-punk might never have happened. They were that important.
I’ve never heard anyone play their songs in a club which seems strange since there are several of them that might work well. Maybe Ferry’s vocal mannerisms, the manic guitar work, and Eno’s contributions are just too strange to go over well with most customers. I know I’d love it, but then I’m a little strange myself.
Man I missed DRI when they came here in 88/9 as they didnt play in Queensland, but I saw Bad Brains and they ROCKED!!!!!! I couldnt sleep for about 3 days afterwards they were so good - I was totally straight at the gig too! (Still breastfeeding my son lol!) One of the best gigs ever for me!
^^^ Got some nice welts from being "whipped" by HR's dreads at the DRI / Bad Brains show at the Roxy Theater in Atlanta Ga. Oh to be a young shirtless skankin' moshin' hooligan again!!!
