Re: damn trick or treaters!
Haha...that happened to me last year. I bouth a ton of candy because I just knew for sure that our apartment would have lots of kids that would come around, but I guess they all went to the mall or something. I think Mox and I ended up eating most of it! :P

That's usually how it is. I live the basement of a 24-plex, and I just don't get any trick or treaters down here. At my old apartment which had an outdoor entry, I'd maybe get a handful, but still ended up with a bowlful of candy. Since moving I've just quit buying the stuff.
Sadly, with the way the world is getting, Halloween for kids just isn't what it used to be. I grew up in a small town and it was reasonably safe to be going door to door trick or treating, and we did it ON Halloween, instead of moving it to the weekend.
Anymore though, particularly in larger cities, a lot of parents who are too scared to have their kids walking around the neighborhood in the dark, are just taking their kids to Halloween nights at the shopping mall. Less driving, less stress, and less need to inspect goodies upon getting home.
Re: damn trick or treaters!
^ I think that's what the deal is around here, Doc (even though I'm in a small town that most people wouldn't see "that way"). Most of the churches and malls/shopping centers around here have some kind of Halloweeen/Fall Festival kind of thing, and most parents will just take their kids to those.
Re: damn trick or treaters!
Given no razors were found in apples and the only kids poisoned by candy was their own parents doing - it is funny and scary how rumors and urban legend have transformed the social environment in as little as twenty years!
Just think how scared we will be of our neighbors in another twenty! Whoo hoo! Something to look forward to.
Re: damn trick or treaters!
I wouldn't let my kids go trick or treating, either. People in the world are fricking psycho, I don't think we should even have that holiday anymore. Don't have kids, but if I had a ten year old daughter or something, no way would I let her go pound on strangers doors!!
As a kid, I will never forget the Jehovah's witnesses on trick or treat days. They would go around with their kids and tried to convert people, and people would open the door because they thought they were just normal trick or treaters...
PSYCHOS!!
Re: damn trick or treaters!
i was allowed to go- we went til 11pm or sometimes even midnight. got 2-3 bags full. when i was really small- the rents put me in a wagon- it went faster= more candy. i started going parentless at 10. and yes, i would let my kids go.
Re: damn trick or treaters!
yeah our trick or treat time was 3-5 pm today. what the hell is that about? how scary is halloween in the daytime?
ughhh.
Re: damn trick or treaters!
I've bought a small bag of chocolates on the off chance that some kids might come to our door tonight. We don't actually celebrate Halloween in Australia, but I know that you do occasionally get a group of kids in costume knocking on your door.... and I figure, no one here does Trick or Treating, so these kids are probably going to get turned away at like 90% of the houses they go to lol. So I got some chocolates, just in case some do come past tonight.
And if not, I'll just eat them all myself :D
Re: damn trick or treaters!
I don't get when places have trick or treat when it's not Halloween night.
Re: damn trick or treaters!
Doc, I'll come trick or treating by your place...
I already got a bag of mixed candies from my job, I'll pass those out. Also I got a small animal toy for the lil' girl next door.
I also was unprepared a couple times. I too, don't get t-n-treatering not on the day itself.
Re: damn trick or treaters!
we spent $30 on candy this year(sounds like alot but 1/2 went to bf's mom since she could've afford to buy any this year). And we didn't get one trick-or-treater. Should'nt have been a huge surprise since we didn't get any last year either, but we kinda thought the neighbors would bring their kids over. But nope. it was actually kinda weird b/c they were walking their 3 y/o in their yard. Yep. walking her...the girl never goes outside and if she does it's just for a walk around their yard then back inside she goes. it's sad. but anyways, they were outside and we asked if they were going to be trick-or-treating this year so we knew if we should be home or not. and they ran away!!! WTF?! The woman had a look of fear, grabbed her kid and took off for the house. The strange thing was that we were in our yard and were just shouting across the road.
i don't get it. do you think it was something we said? we've talked to these neighbors before and the little girl will yell hi to me whenever she's outside, so why did they freak out?
Re: damn trick or treaters!
I've spent about $30 on candy (Thank you, Dollar Store!), and I made up 80 treat bags (way full too) with that $30. I even have a little candy left for the bowl if I run out of the treat bags. I really hope we get a lot of kids tonight. From what the neighbors say, we do, and they start early. Most of the little ones come around when it's still light out from what they say. I just hope 80 is enough.. LOL
Re: damn trick or treaters!
I am taking my children out tonight. My hubby has to work late so it will be just me and the 3 kidos. I am going to take the to a suburb though, since the houses around us are just too far apart. My 2 1/2 year old would never make it and wouldn't have any candy. For those of you that are parents, my mother taught me a trick. I was allowed to dress-up, go trick-or-treating, then when we got home it was bedtime. After I would go to sleep, she would take all of the candy that I received and throw it away replacing it with candy that she bought. It was a win-win situation for both of us. I was able to enjoy the holiday and she was able to know that I was protected.
