Horror stories at the beauty salon
This is why i'm a little skeptical on getting my nails and wax done somewhere, ALOT of places don't use clean impliments. Ladies, be aware when getting waxed or having mani/pedi. Just heard on how this lady got herpes on her lip by getting a wax. I remember like two years ago, this one lady got herpes on her hands by getting a manicure!
I think it's best to bring your own nail buffers and shit. Also tell the person to change the stick before applying the wax on you. Wonder if you can tell them to change the wax in the hot bowl too.
Re: Horror stories at the beauty salon
Once when I was at a nail salon 10 years ago, this customer that was waiting for the nail technician at the booth, took a buffer and started buffing her own toe nails right there!!!After seeing that,I decided to start doing my own acrylics. You just don't know where their stuff's been.
Re: Horror stories at the beauty salon
How gross!! That is just nasty! I always watch people doing the work on me. If I see something that I don't like I let them know right away.
Re: Horror stories at the beauty salon
Yeah, some people just have no common sense.
Re: Horror stories at the beauty salon
Eww...that's why I just do my own nails...period. I have nice nails, so I don't need acrylics...but I did it one time, and I wouldn't let those people touch my hands (or feet) again!
Re: Horror stories at the beauty salon
I want to get my french manicure air brushed, but that's about IT. Don't want any clippers or buffers near my hands, unless they're mine. NEVER know.

At my salon you can get your own box of stuff - drill bits and whatever - nail files, buffing sponges. Three bucks and it has my number on it, and I -know- for a fact, no one but me has used that stuff.
You guys should check out salons that do that. As for the waxing and stuff, I usually go to places that my best girl-friend goes to. She's got issues with cleanliness like I do, so I know it's okay.

That sounds good. Never heard of places that do that. If anyone knows a place like that in NJ/NYC please let me know. :)
Re: Horror stories at the beauty salon
ladies don't forget, even if you are using your own implements, at home or taking them to the salon, they should be washed, dried, and soaked in a quats solution for 10 min, then rinsed and dried and preferably stored in an airtight container :D. even if its your own junk you should sanitize it after you use it.
you can get the quats at sally's or a beauty supply and it will tell you on the bottle how to mix it.
hey, i guess i do still remember what i learned in school!
another thing about the pedicure tubs, in school they showed us a dateline show where this salon had like 6 or 8 pedicure tubs (the ones with the tub attached to the chair) that had TB germs or whatever and all these people got TB, like at least 20 people! and they always cleaned and sanitized their tubs, but didn't take out the drain and clean/disinfect it! this was at a decent, real salon also, not one of those cheap places.
some places put a new plastic bag in the tub for each person.
when they made that show those people had gotten TB like, a year before they even made that show. and they still had huge sores all over their legs up to the knees. it was horrible.
the health inspectors went to all these different nail salons to inspect after this TB thing happened. in one place they found on a clipper bacteria from human feces (poop :P) in some they found they were soaking their implements in good ol' windex, which is NOT a disinfectant.
one of the salon owners claimed she didn't know about these regulations. wtf??
pretty scary.
Re: Horror stories at the beauty salon
about the wax--it's not necessary to change the wax b/c it's so hot. but they should be changing the stick for each person.
Re: Horror stories at the beauty salon
It's gotten so bad that Paula Abdul went to court to get nail salons to sanitize their equipment.
