A new adventure
Well, it is official ! My husband took the job and we will be relocating to New Mexico this coming spring. The goal is to be able to buy out the senior partner (who is trying to phase out and retire) in 5 years and be co-owner of a 20+ year old small business that does a million + a year in sales.
After the first of the year we are putting our house on the market. I think it will sell fast too. It is not even 2 years old and in a growing master planned community that has increased in property value 50% since we bought the house in the summer of '04.
We are going to take the fur babies and one of the cars out there to start . We plan to do the short term rental deal while we house hunt. After we pick a property to buy we will ship out our furniture and boxes and really move in.
I am excited and scared all it the same time.
We are going from upper level corporate America to a self employed situation. That means no more company matched 401, health benefits etc. I have to find us a good replacement for all of those.
It is a grand opportunity that we would be stupid not to explore and a risk that might end up a stupid mistake too, lol ! Honestly though, my instinct says this could be very positive. My husband is competitive and determined. He is fairly disciplined , honest and a real charmer. Everyone loves him and he likes it that way ;D I think he will do everything possible to meet his goal. Knowing that, how I could tell him I wanted to stay where we are now?
Life is good these days and I would be more than happy to stay in our present situation. It would be easier, safer and less stressful. But still, when he asked me how I would feel about moving I don't think saying no even crossed my mind.

Best of luck ! This sounds like a major 'leap of faith'. As I'm sure that you already know from dancing, 'being your own boss' has no substitute !
My only advice might pertain to the housing market, both in the city you're now living in and the city in New Mexico you're moving to. You may want to seriously consider putting your house on the market as soon as possible, and renting for a few months while real estate prices drop !

Re: A new adventure
We like to flip properties so I will keep that in mind.
We usually buy at pre-construction prices and live in them for 2 years ( to get the homestead credit) then sell. The house we are in now has gained 50% in value. According to my early research we can get more "house" for our $ in ABQ than we can here. We are also looking to put down 10 grand more on this new house than we did on this one so our mortgage should be a little less. Hopefully that amount will cover our private health insurance.
