I heard the Christie's chain offers benefits....but it would seem cheaper & more advantageous to pay out of your own pocket.
never been at a place where it was available, but Im still such a daddy's girl Im on my parents insurance, so never had to worry too much.
I never heard of one offering health insurance. That's fine by me. I'd rather be an IC than an employee and it's not that much money if your'e young and healthy. I have a high deductible plan. This is more in case I get seriously injured or sick, so I don't go broke.
Depending on what state you live in it can be difficult to get an individual policy unless you have never seen the doctor for anything and are in perfect, perfect, perfect health. I finally just conveniently omitted I am on medication and they insured me.
I WISH they did offer a health insurance plan, but as an idependent contractor, I'm out of luck. I am also wondering about how to handle the health insurance issue. I need to see a gyno and havent been in five years, which can be dangerous, and I'm starting to worry.:-\ I'm considering paying out of pocket since I make more than I ever have, but I also want to save money because I am trying to pay off my undergrad student loans and get a new used car to replace my dying one.
What do you ladies do? There's paying for health insurance which is very expensive and yet priceless if you break your leg or have some other catastrophic thing occur, and then there's going to the health department and saying hi, i'm poor but I don't want to die of cervical cancer because I can't pay for a routine check-up... What are my options? I'd love to know how some of you have tackled this issue.
paintgodess, Go to Planned Parenthood for a gynecologist appt. I went there because I recently moved and didn't know where else to go. Everything was FREE! Even my birth control pills. I felt bad and donated $40. They are awesome! You can find their locations and ph# on their internet site. My ex bf got his independent health insurance for a little over $1000 a year from our car insurance agent (Farmer's insurance). It was good coverage too. Good luck!
Paying for a routine gyno exam isn't that bad unless something unusual comes up. Sometimes they'll give you a cash discount too. Planned Parenthood sounds like a good idea. If I didn't have a regular gyno I'd try that myself.
If I were to have health insurance, I'd pay about $2500 through Blue Cross. The coverage seems crappy for that price. Instead, I take the money and put it in the emergency medical fund. If I break a leg, that'd cost me about $1000, I think. If I have my appendix taken out, $3000. Save for cancer, I can't think of a situation that would justify my paying $2500/year with no prescription benefits and with a massive deductible.Quote:

For gyno's, Planned Parenthood. When you visit, you give back to womankind. Everything is free if you qualify. Please donate though!
If I'm sick, I go to the walk-in clinic. $50-$100.
