Saftey Issue: Bringing a friend to check out club and amateur night?
So none of my friends (and expecially not the boyf, but that's another matter!) are too supportive of my decision to start dancing, but I'm not about to go to a club alone... I wouldn't feel safe. I don't have a car, either, so I will have to take a taxi. I want someone who would go with me to see what the club was like and to cheer for me during amateur night, but there's really no one. I'm starting to feel like I have no real friends. :'(
What should I do?

YOu might actually find it empowering to just go alone. Although it helps to win $$$ on amateur night if you have a posse there, it won't effect your getting hired. If you're good, you're good even if there is NO ONE cheering for you.
If you ultimately con't find anyone to go with you, I would suggest just going for an audition on a night other than amateur night and undretand that a lot of women go to the clubs alone the first time. Don't be nervous about yuor safety. Just use your woman's intuition and feel the place out. If you freak, turn around and go home.
What area do you plan to work in? What city? Maybe some other girls on here can make some reccomendations on where to audition and you might even be able to talk a few into coming to see you on amateur night!

I think I might be even more nervous with a friend there watching me. If you go alone, then no one there will know who you are, so you won't feel embarrased at all. Even though I've been dancing for over a year now, I still get nervous if friends or people I know are in the bar, but if no one I know is there, then I'm fine.
And when I first started dancing, my friends and boyfriend were against it too. My boyfriend is really good about it now, but it took some time. And my friends don't really care either way right now. I actually think they're pretty jealous of my situation, because we're all in college, and they have set hours that they have to work at their jobs, while I can choose the days I want to work. So if I have a test on Friday, I can take the night off on Thursday to study, while they can't do that. Your friends and boyfriend may not be supportive of you because of the bad stigma associated with strippers. You just have to prove them wrong and show them that all strippers aren't drug addicts and prostitutes.

I agree,it's better to go alone.I would feel very uncomfortable with friends around. If you do take someone with you, then just check the club out, without doing the amateur contest, you can come back the next time and do it by yourself. That way you'll feel more confident, since you've already seen the club.

Yeah my first time in a club. I went alone. I could have never auditioned with one of my girlfriends there. My girlfriends think they are too good to go to a strip club anyway. I'd never tell them I wanted to be a dancer. Do you have any cousins your close to? My cousin and I go strip club hopping. We go and check clubs out and the dancers style etc. Make sure you take money to tip the girls!!!! Good Luck
