Shopping Around For a Pole...
I'm really torn between Lil Mynx and the Super Pole...I have read the many, many threads and reviews on SW regarding these poles, and I have to say I am weary of Platinum Stages' customer service, even if they say they've gotten better. The Super Pole looks to be ideal for my needs though, so that's what I'm leaning towards right now.
I also don't know whether I should get the portable pole (in which case I'd still get a one piece instead of the multi-piece) or the stationary pole. I'm not going to be travelling around with it - it will only be in my house, but if I'm going to want to move it, I don't know if a stationary pole would give me problems....
What do you guys think I should do?

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
we have the lil mynx in our kitchen... it's portable, all right, but I never take it down anyway so it doesn't matter. For the most part it's pretty cool, but once my boyfriend tried to climb it and it fell out of the ceiling, and that's always in the back of my mind. He's pretty big, though (200 lbs or so... but muscle-y, not chubby, lucky for me)

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
I guess my main question is would there really be a big difference between a portable one-piece pole as opposed to a portable multi-piece, especially if I'm not planning on traveling with it?
I'm leaning towards the one-piece...

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
I would recommend against the portable kind. If you want a removable one, get a Lil' Mynx - it has a thing at the top that fastens into the ceiling, but you can hang a plant from it when the pole isn't there and no one notices anything. I've seen a few of those portable poles and they're just tension rods. They all go clattering across the room after a couple good pole tricks. If you're not traveling, I'd get the Lil' Mynx.
Mine arrived today!!! I can't wait to get home and install it!

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
If you're not planning on moving it around all that much, I would definitely go for the one piece pole...my lil' mynx is the two piece and the part where the two pieces join has been worn down quite a bit, and the pole now wobbles, and if I were to let my skin hit it wrong, it would probably pinch me something fierce (I've only had it for about 7 months, too, and 3 of those is was living in its case). That said, it is really nice to have a pole the fits into my little car with no problems...

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
For your needs, definitely save the extra money and just go with the one piece pole. I know Platinum Stages has a one piece superpole. I have the multi-piece superpole and love it. It has larger plates at the top and bottom, which provide better support. I installed mine at a client's home who had 12 foot ceilings, and one of the ladies decided to climb to the top. It didn't even budge.
Good luck!

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
I have a lil mynx and I really like it but my celings are too high for it where I'm living now. I might be wanting to sell it if you're interested and since you're in Tampa that would be easy! I hate to sell it though because I won't be living here forever but I think I might try a PS pole because it goes longer. Maybe with lil mynx I can get an extension but I haven't found out yet. And my boyfriend and a couple other guys played on it and it held really well. It was pretty sturdy when I had it up. I had trouble putting it up and down though because the tension was so tight. I'm not sure yet if I want to sell it but PM me if you're interested. Right now it's laying on the floor in my bedroom :(

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
How long is it and how much would you be thinking of selling it for? I measured the spot where I'd want to put it, and it's 92 inches from floor to ceiling...I don't know whether I should be taking into account the stuff it will take to set it up and including that in the measurement....
How did you guys measure to make sure the pole would fit your ceiling?

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
I just received my multi-piece super pole from Platinum Stages today, yay!
First, dealing with PS went well and quickly, I live in Montreal Canada and received the pole 8 days after placing the order. Of course, I just had to attempt putting it up on my own, it would have been impossible for me to wait till my bf gets home hours later, lol!
The quality of the pole pieces and other parts is excellent, assembly and setup are fairly simple but very tricky to do on your own, especially if you're midget sized like me at 4'9" and 95 lbs! It took me a good hour to set it up properly, took my time to make sure I did it right without injuring myself in the process (it's a bit heavy) and getting it nice and straight. Now that I've set it up once already and know how it all goes together, I'm sure it would go up much quicker, especially with some extra help.
Once it was all set up and tightened as much as I could possibly do so, I was very pleased with my new pole and it's stability. The thing doesn't budge at all! Granted, I am on the light side and don't do any fancy tricks but I could definitely throw my weight around it as hard as I can and it doesn't move at all. The spinning feature is fun and a nice change from a stationary one.
I haven't had the pole long but can safely say that I am very happy with it, it meets all my expectations and then some. IMO a great quality product that's worth the price.
If multi-piece isn't necessary for you, I'd go with a single pole. The joins are very smooth and virtually undetectable but they are still there. If you move later on and have higher ceilings, I'm guessing an extension would be fine in adapting your pole to a higher ceiling then. Of course, asking the folks at PS would be the best way to find out for sure.
Hope you get your new pole soon, which ever kind you choose. I haven't stopped playing with it all day and am of course already quite sore and bruised, lol! I'm expecting to feel a fair amount of additional pain tomorrow when I wake up ;)

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
I finally got my Lil' Mynx up last night and I LOVE IT! I spent over an hour playing on it before I went to bed. I'm sore as hell this morning but can't wait to get home tonight and swing around on it some more. I was climbing on it and swinging around on it pretty hard and it didn't budge at all. Once I found a ceiling joist (that was the hard part), it only took five or ten minutes to install the pole, and it is removable.
BTW, the shipping was free and it arrived less than 24 hours after I ordered it. (Of course, they were delivering from Fresno to L.A. so that's not far.)

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
this is the one I have:
http://www.lilmynx.com/stripperpoles.php#stainless
I'm definitely going to try to sell it since it goes up to 10 feet and I think my celing is 11 feet. It won't extend past that. Mine is stainless and doesn't rotate. I was going to try to get $200 for it but if Serendipity or anyone else is interested make me an offer. I can deliver it too in Tampa or the Tampa area. I want to try the PS pole because it can go longer and there is no way to extend this one I found out from lil mynx yesterday. :(

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
my suggestion is to go with LilMynx. That's what i bought and it's up in my apartment. All you have to do is find a stud and screw in a little thing that has a hook on it...for looks...and then put it up. It's really easy! It's sturdy too...my husband and I have both climbed it and flipped upside down on it with no problems! I bought mine through www.californiapoles.com it was cheaper.

I'm really interested in this pole - how long have you had it and is it showing any wear and tear? I can even pick it up so we can avoid delivery costs all together...let me know. :)

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
Yekhefah,
I'd love to check out your pole before I buy mine. I'm in Orange County. I'm worried about some of these comments that the center wears and wobbles over time. But I need something to take for lessons.

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
I had a mynx. It was fine, but make sure you know what kind of joists you have in your building first. Mine were not wood, but metal. It made installation more difficult. We had to get a butterfly nut and the stability wasn't so great.

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
Just a little update for you guys - I ended up buying Bunny's Lil Mynx pole, installed it today, and LOVE IT!!! The installation was easy, although I had my boyfriend do it just because he's bigger and stronger and could really get the pole into place the way we wanted it.
It's sturdy as can be - he weighs 200+ pounds and was swinging around on it with no problem and the pole didn't budge at all.
I can't get enough of it!! I already learned two pole tricks and have gotten so much better making my movements flow on "stage" - and this has only been the first day.
The only down side is that I think I'm taking on too much too soon, so I have a bunch of blisters on my hands...but I don't even care! ;D

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
I'm glad you're liking it! I need to find another pole to fit my ceiling cuz I miss it so much!
-
Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
Lil Mynx makes custom poles, so call them and see if they can make one long enough to fit your ceilings. Otherwise, you can just get a Super Pole and pay a little extra for the right height.

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
I just ordered a Platinum Stages super pole. When I measured my ceiling it's a few inches over 10 feet so I had to order 2 pieces or something. I just called and the guy told me which to order. I got the case too. And it came to $468.95....OUCH! Hope I like it! I can't wait for it to get here!

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
I've been playing with my Platinum Stage removable pole for a good 3 weeks now and am still in love with it!!! It's very solid and I've yet to feel it budge even a millimeter during my practice sessions.
I've been having a blast learning new tricks and using it to workout. I've even gotten many compliments on my new stage sets from all the practicing and confidence with it now. Only drawback is that my legs always have bruises on them, at one point I had over 25!!! It's gotten better since, I'm down to 3 or 4 now, hehe :)
Mine arrived very fast, exactly one week after I placed the order it was at my door! I was very much surprised considering I'm in Canada and it was just before the holidays.
Congrats on getting your own pole and share your experiences with you new pole when you get it!

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
So far I'm loving my lil mynx. It seems sturdy enough and after I had my man mount it permanently to the ceiling, my friend and I got all crazy on it! I'd post pictures, but I haven't been able to keep my clothes on since it came in the mail ;)

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
Go on Ebay, theres some good deals for stripper poles there.

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
I have a question about the lil mynx powder-coated poles. I will NOT get a stainless steel - I already know that will suck ass for grip. (Why don't they offer this in brass btw???) Anyway, does the paint chip on the powder coated poles? I worked at one club that had a black painted steel pole and it sucked. The paint chipped alot and we always had black paint chips on our hands - and no one at that club even bothered with pole tricks, the paint chipped just from basic spins and twirling, no climbing.

Re: Shopping Around For a Pole...
I asked why they don't offer it in brass...the woman told me they used to.
But they metal is different and they wouldn't be able to offer a brass two-piece, the brass tarnishes too quickly, and they got enough complaints that they switched over to stainless. The grip doesn't suck ass to me.
