could use advice/pick me up
Hi fellow SW-ers. I usually just write in with practical questions but tonight I could use some more personal advice. So if you're not in the mood to hear someone's bitching and moaning (hey at least I'm honest) feel free to pass on this thread.
Anyhoo, I just graduated from college and am doing the broke graduate thing, working my first post-college job, trying to earn money for further education/travel. I'm interested in stripping for the money and because it is something I always wanted to try, I worked as a nude model through college, love to dance etc. Right now I'm just feeling kinda down, I'm trying to lose weight before I auditon (will be auditioning this summer when I move to a larger town) and it is going soooooo slowly....have very little money, trying to save for shoes, starter outfit etc. I don't know, I just feel down tonight, could use some helpful advice or humor. I know it sounds whiny, But do you ever feel like you work so hard and can't get ahead? I dieted really hard these past two weeks and lost 1 freaking pound! That was the final straw I think. Grrrrrrrr.....

First of all, take a deep breath... lol.... I know how you feel. Before I started dancing I was stressed out because I had no money and was worried about how I was going to buy outfits and shoes for work. I also wanted to get in better shape before I started. Everyone says its unhealthy to lose much more than 1 pound a week when you are dieting, so losing one pound in 2 weeks isn't horrible. As for buying outfits, all you really need to buy are a good pair of shoes. That should be the most expensive purchase starting out. You can buy a cute 2 piece outfit from the lingerie section of any store that will work just fine starting out and is usually pretty cheap. Before I started dancing I was falling behind in my bills and couldn't get ahead. I was in school (still am) and working 35 hours a week in a video store and still kept falling behind. Dancing was the best thing I did for myself-haven't fallen behind since.
Try not to feel too down on yourself. Everyone goes through rough times. I did, and I managed to make it through alright.
Re: could use advice/pick me up
Just buy the outfits and what-not as you go along. The shoes will be your biggest purchase. Have you tried eBay for a good outfit ? As for diet-ing, that is only one part ... what about your activity level? Is it moderate? It's all about the calories you consume, how nutritious you are eating as well as if you activity level is high enough to burn those calories you consume.
You can find all this out and more in Body Business. ;D
It may be slow going for you before you actually start dancing however do not 'loose your head' once you do start dancing. It is waay too easy to 'loose your head' when you are getting cash in the hand for your income... waay too easy to spend it and forget about paying tax on it.. etc.
Re: could use advice/pick me up
Thank you so much! I feel much much better today...kinda singing the Mary Tyler Moore Song (You're Gonna Make It After All!)
Thanks again for the friendly advice. :-)
Re: could use advice/pick me up
As my Mom would always say..."This too shall pass"....cheeszy but true!

Hiya...
Could you tell us what you are doing to diet down?? 8)
Re: could use advice/pick me up
I actually decided to not diet until after X-mas vacation a just concentrate on maintaining my current weight ---which is challenge enough with all the yummy holiday cookies etc. But I am planning to do Weight Watchers online. I have done the regular Weight Watchers and lost almost 20 lbs last year and managed to maintain it. (I'm 5 ft 3 in 135 lbs) I would like to get down to 120, that's the weight I feel good at, look good and can wear size 6 to size 8. I lift weights 3 times weekly, do cardio three times, walk about 4 miles on the weekend and teach a belly dance class twice a week.
To maintain I drink a lot of water, eat my vegetables, exercise, try to keep my sweets intake reasonable (I love chocolate!) and look at lingerie for inspiration to stay in shape.
I think I lost slowly because I wasn't measuring my portions ( a big component of Weight Watchers) I bought a small kitchen scale so I can keep my portions down.
