This can be a dangerous occupation
Believe it...
I recently had one of the best friends I have ever had (the other DJ at my club) shot and killed as a result of being in the same car with another of my good friends, the assistant manager/bouncer. Two guys we threw out (I was there that night and participated to a small extent in the process) waited until we finished closing, followed them for a good 15 minutes, pulled up next to them and shot them both with a high calibre handgun.
Were it not for my mom being on her deathbed, I would without question have been with them, albeit in my own vehicle. I generally went to this guy's house after he or I worked and hung out with he and his girlfriend until morning.
Since these scum were part of a group of eight guys who regularly hung out in our club, some of whom I came close to fighting a couple of weeks before, they would have unquestionably gone after me as well.
Then the other night a former enforcer for a major motorcycle gang tried to walk right into the dressing room, which is right next to the DJ booth. He was more than halfway through the door before I saw him and got a hand on his shoulder to pull him back. Things got pretty ugly but suffice it to say I was unharmed (though my shirt got torn) and he didn't get into the dressing room. There wasn't any bouncer that night but one of the owners and the manager finally got there and got him out while I got back in the booth and did my real job, lol...
I am probably one of very few people to walk away from a serious confrontation with this guy. I actually wasn't aware how lethal he was until I noticed how careful they were in getting him away from the booth. Then I found out more about him later.

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
Thanks to you on behalf of all us dancers in the world for not letting that big bully into a dressing room. You my dear are a true gentleman :tophat:

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you are doing okay.

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
Djoser, that sucks man. I'm glad your ok though, and I understand what your going through at home as well.
IF things are that bad at your club now, you can always come and work with me! We need a new DJ, since our DJ (the other one anyway) is a MAJOR asshat, and everyone hates him. Even the owner, but we can't find a replacement yet, so that's why he's still there.
On a different note; I have missed you! Next time you leave for a little while come back to us quicker, ya?

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
You gotta work at a new club. Personally, I am through with the "can't afford a bouncer" clubs. I hope they can afford wrongful death suits, then.

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
I'm so sorry for your loss. It's amazing me what trifle things will cause someone to harm someone else. Of all things.. being bounced out of a club?!-I just can't imagine the thought process there.. hmm they kicked us out, let's kill them??!!! God.
Sounds like the club you're working in IS dangerous. Although I'm sure it's appreciated *especially by the girls*, but your job isn't to be a bouncer. Period. Any chance of moving to a safer club?
Again, I'm sorry for the loss and the danger/frustration you're going through.

We heard about this when it happened, and I believe there's a sympathy thread for you (look up your name with the search function and you'll find it.)

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
Goodness! I'm really glad to hear you're ok, though.

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
I am glad to see you are living and breathing. Time to get major security presence at the club - even for just a few months or so. Make it known by wanding everyone who walks through the door etc.
For Tia_q, those guys aren't mad they got thrown out of the club, they are mad because someone excercised power over them. So they went and got their power back. They are more like knuckle-draggers tearing meat apart around a fire under a tree.

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
I am so sorry to hear this happened to your friends and thank God you weren't there as well. Did they catch the guys who did this?

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
Djoser,
Sorry for your loss. Very glad you are safe.
Maybe it's time to switch your venue to weddings and bar mitzvahs?

I heard about that thread from a couple of members on the phone and from two dancers who are members at the club. I surely appreciate the support of everyone who posted there!
I tried to find it but it was over a month old, and until I get my laptop hooked up for wireless (this town is useless for a lot of things, my hotel, right on the A1A strip, is nonetheless out of the Clearwire covered area, so I am trying to figure out whether to go back to dial-up/cable or what!). For the present I am paying 10$ an hour to go online at an internet cafe, so I'd rather not spend all my time searching for it right now.
When I do get my own connection, and it will be soon, I will have a very interesting tale to tell about that whole situation. I don't believe in God, but so many strange coincidences happened at once that I am convinced that something is going on out there...
As far as the lack of security, it's not as bad as it sounds--one of them broke his leg, the other has been in and out of legal trouble and unavailable, one had his truck break down, and another (the best of them) took his first night off in a long time after working 7 days a week after the murder.
The fact of the matter is, no bouncer could have stopped this guy, or the subsequent brief if ugly altercation that took place--such is the layout of the club. It was up to me, so I did it.
Also, though I will at some point be more than ready to go where I can make what I deserve (and thanks for the invitation, Kitana!), with Race Week and Bike Week right around the corner, I'm gonna stick it out for a while longer.

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
DJ: I'm sorry about the loss of your friends but glad to hear that you are OK. Sounds like a too close call though. Be carefull out there! My thoughts to you on the situation with your mom as well. It sounds like you've got a pretty full plate right now...what is it they say... What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Good luck to you.
BTW, though dial-up does indeed suck, you can join AOL temporarily and get a local 800 number for dial-up. As long as your hotel has free local calls it won't cost you anything-the AOL itself free for 60 days. I do this when I'm stuck at a Super 8 with no wifi all the time. Just remember to cancel the AOL before sixty days, otherwise they will start billing your credit card.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. :(
Those circumstances are insane, I'm horrified.

DJoser, I am so glad that you are doing ok. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.
And, so you wouldn't have to spend the time digging through the tons of posts...I did it for you. ;)

Um, no, don't use AOL's 800 number. From the AOL Help pages:
Quote:
Now, using AOLnet and the number 1-800-XXX-XXXX, you can access the AOL service anywhere in the U.S. (if there is no 56 Kbps access number available for your area code), Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands at up to 28.8 Kbps (up to 14.4 Kbps for VFC modems). The charge is 10 cents a minute, or $6.00 per hour, for the entire time you are connected using this number - even during your free trial period. Additional surcharges may also apply if you have chosen the AOL® on a high-speed connection billing plan.
The 800 number is NOT free. There's no charge to your phone bill, but the charge goes to your AOL account. If you've given them a credit card number to start the trial, they're going to bill the access charge to it, even if you cancel before the trial is over. (And woo-hoo, speeds of up to 28.8 Kbps on the 800 line! Surf's up!)
I'd think twice about using AOL even if you have a local access number available and the hotel doesn't charge for local calls. AOL is notoriously difficult to cancel. They've been known in some cases to conveniently forget to quit billing you.
And, DJ, I wish you'd consider a safer location. It sounds like the odds are stacked against the good guys in that area. Be careful.

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
DJoser,
Wow, that's really ALOT to be happening to you all at once. Please take care of yourself, and make sure you're taking time off from work if that feels like something that would be helpful to you. Maybe some sort of yoga or meditation or hanging out with good friends would be a good alternative than working a bunch right now!
Although it sounds cheezy, this post and the responses brought that little stinging feeling you get when you may cry to my eyes. What a very complicated reality the strip club world is.

Thanks Ev for that info. I may have misspoken or it may be a new policy. I've done this twice in the past 18 months or so and have not been charged anything. I was probably using a "local number" for the area I was staying in as opposed to an 800 #. BTW, I aso agree that AOL should be a last resort. Thanks for the correction.

Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
Hey, DJoser is right - the club's not that bad. I've worked there for three years, and in between trips down to south Florida to work, I always return because I have a great time. He's our best DJ, we appreciate everything he does, especially when he stopped that idiot from coming in the dressing room. I was back there at the time, and who knows what would have happened. Thanks DJoser, keep up the good work, we luv you!

Do you have a cell phone? I get unlimited internet from tmobile for $20 a month on my phone and with $50 software/usb combo on my laptop. Cingular is paid by Mbyte. I don't know verizon or sprint as they are both CDMA, and I only use GSM.
I could help you with it, or I'm fairly sure Mast does something similar and it would be against his religion to not help.
