...What a very complicated reality the strip club world is.

I do practice self-hypnosis sometimes, tempered with some yoga techniques I picked up in college, but a far better form of therapy since all this shit came down has been to use my heavy bag, which I hung from a big tree where I had been staying. After 5-6 three minute rounds the stress is much relieved--though I don't miss my friend or my mom any less.
Before that I was literally ready to kill anyone who fucked with me (and almost did the night after the murder, but that tale deserves another thread of its own), so it's a good thing I started hitting the bag before I had to deal with this other guy. In that situation I was really more concerned with getting back to doing my job ASAMFP.
Cassy is correct in saying that all this is making the club sound worse than it really is. But it seems to me, from all I have experienced, heard about from friends and lovers, and read about here on SW (like this new thread "the big brawl"!), that we all need to watch our asses, even in the upscale clubs. There are weirdos, stalkers, and possibly even killers there too--they are just harder to spot and a little easier to stop.
Fortunately the group of guys that the driver and the shooter hung with have apparently left town, because we haven't seen them for a few weeks. They have an ironclad case against the guys who did it, which is also fortunate.
As Yoda says, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and all this shit has proven it again. I feel more than anything a determination to live life to the fullest, and not let anyone or anything stop me.
Thanks so much VG for providing the link! And thanks again to everyone who has been so kind there, and here as well...
Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
Perhaps a bulletin board with "Mug shots of people arrested here. Do you want to start trouble?"
Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
My regular club doesn't even have any bouncers... the house mom and female bartenders are the ones who enforce rules and eject unruly customers... so far it's worked... not sure how well they could deal with a really out-of-control biker or a brawl involving 20 people... yikes... my condolences about your friend...
Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
I am lucky enough to have Djoser as my Dj. We have worked together now about 8 months and the DJ that passed away was a friend of mine also. My club is going through a transition period since our DJ was shot about two months ago. Because of this we haven't had all the security that we need. I am glad that Djoser was there to watch out for us, and we as dancers needs more people like him to help watch out for us.
Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
wow I'm sorry to hear about this!
Sounds kinda like a sketchy place to be, especially with the stress of losing your mother.
I hope things get better for you and you have a much happier new year.
Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
Well, compared to a really nice Hollywood club or, say, Cheetah's in Vegas or Scores in NYC, yeah--it's sketchy, lol...
But with the special events coming up I'm gonna stick it out, I already am making pretty damned good money for a smaller club in Florida at the end (and worst part) of the slow season. And I feel better carrying on the work of my friend for a while, too.
And though my style is a lot better suited to a 'gentlemen's club', I do like the relaxed atmosphere there, and the fact that I can say whatever the hell I want on the mike.
Besides, my stepdad is really hurting and needs me now, so I want to stay in Daytona for at least a few more months. We used to fight like hell, but this has made us close and he even comes into the club a lot to see me now! He kinda likes seeing Cassy dance, too, I think--that may have something to do with it. When he sees Kathleen dance as well (she usually comes in later), he might become a 'regular', haha.
Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
Djoser...I am really sorry to hear about all you have been through. I am glad to hear that you and your stepdad are getting along, and that he seems to be comfortable with your job. Although I am not in the business, I do have some experience with parental strife, and being accepted by one's parents is a very important thing.
Be strong and well...
Lynn
Re: This can be a dangerous occupation
I'm very sorry for all you've been through...you're right that it only makes you stronger. There are some real shady people around that area, though. I see you're waiting for race week and bike week as most locals do. I'm sure you'll be happy after it's over. Just curious, after season's over do you intend to stay around the ghost town for another 6 mos until Octoberfest or maybe try your luck somewhere else? I used to work in Tampa and my best friend still does as her man is a DJ wed-fri dayshift and makes very good money. Ever thought of going somewhere that is a little more stable and not quite so seasonal or do you need to stay in Daytona for family reasons?

You can say that again, lol...and I thought Detroit was bad (I grew up there, right down by 7 Mile).
