how do you do tricks on the pole???
I am pretty new to exotic dancing. I've given table dances and all of that, but, I've never done pole work. I see the other girls doing it, and it looks awesome! How do you do some of the tricks the girls do? I don't have a pole at my house, and I don't want to go into the club clueless looking like an idiot!! Anyone have anything that could help me out?? Thanks!! ;D
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
Get a pole for your house, or get one of the other girls to teach you some tricks when there is no one else in the club. Or get the DVD at - I took the level 1 class recently and it's terrific.
There's nothing like having a pole at home to practice on, though!
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
You can take classes too - depends where you are but look on the net.
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
I saw a TAG commercial where there was like a series of apartments on top of each other where girls were dancing around a drain pipe oddly placed in the middle of their apartments. Of course the man was showering in it on the top floor. Do you have something like this?
:D
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
Compliment one of the girls that is good and ask her if she can give you any hints on form, moves, etc. Ask if she migt be willing to teach you a few moves when the club is slow or after shift, club permitting.

fawnias dvds are really great, the pole dancing volume 1 is good, I got a lot out of it
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
Alot of clubs will allow you to go in before opening to practise some tricks. Or even stay after close while they are doing cash outs and clean up n all that stuff. Thats how I learned how to do pole work. I also had the help of a feature who came in one morning to give me advice and suff. Talk to the club management im sure they wont mind... looks good on them to have dancers that do good stage shows.

The closest to that that I've heard about are the Burlesque classes being taught by Arabesque (www.arabesquechicago.com).
Here is the blurb from their website:
Burlesque 1
taught by Michelle
...Burlesque is an old American art form that is currently making a comeback. Its 'Golden Era' was in the early 20's & continued through the early 60's which explains its innocence in comparison to the sexiness of today. Its cheeky charm has been rediscovered once again in the mid 90's and Burlesque has been exploding in the public eye all over the country. Not to be mistaken with stripping, the most classic part of Burlesque is the striptease; in this class Michelle "Toots" L'amour will share her secrets about the striptease and how you can move your body in a seductive and flattering way that is appropriate for all body types. She will also expose you to props such as feather boas, canes, hats and fans as well as opera-length gloves & thigh-highs. Through combinations across the floor and simple routines designed to stay effortless in your memory, this class will help you build confidence, overcome inhibitions, laugh, smile & find the burlesque star inside you! This is a great class to build core strength while polishing your grace & balance, even if you're just looking for sensual ways to spice up your love life or if you are interested in becoming the next burlesque starlet (All Levels)! Please rest assured--No Nudity! See class attire on General Info page.
Burlesque 2
taught by Michelle
...Hone your already fabulous burlesque skills and become the burlesque queen that you really are. We will focus on makeup, costumes, concepts for routines, and music. Each student in the class will work on a specific routine for the 10-week session. The class will start with a warm up to get in the mood and then we will break into discussions. Students will receive feedback from Michelle L'amour, and other students in the class. The culmination of the 10-week session will be a performance. It is recommended that students take at least one full session of the beginning burlesque class &/or talk with the instructor before joining this class. This is NOT a drop in class.
Don't know about pole tricks. I've heard rumors of some gyms installing poles, but I suspect that they are not teaching advanced pole tricks in classes for the general public, because of liability concerns.

Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
I agree that the best way to learn is to get a home pole and an instructional video. I like the Pole Katz one for beg/int level.
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
I agree with the Pole Katz dvd recommendation, so far it's the best I've seen.
Leilanicandy,
As far as lessons, you should have a business license in order to provide lessons. Any time you are running a business, you should ensure you have the required licenses. However, since it is a service, you should be eligible for a sales tax exemption (so you do not have to pay sales tax on the income, but check with your local city requirements). You would still need to pay income tax. I have been providing lessons since 2004, so feel free to contact me with any questions on how to set up the business.
Thanks,
Kat
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
When weather is nice, you can practice pole dancing on: tetherball poles, park swingsets, clothesline poles, and the occasional odd lamppost or fence post. People will look at you strangely, but you might wanna get used to that too. LOL
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
^ Just be sure to check and make sure that there is no peeling paint on those poles. OUCHIE!!
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
It's all about upper body strength. Find a sturdy horizontal rod and do pull ups untill you're able to hold your own body wieght with one arm. them the pole tricks will come naturally
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
Just do it at work. When it's not busy. Other poles that you find around the city aren't really "right" for stripping. Just get some momentum and spin - you may look foolish the first time, but you will have a good idea of where your weight moves around.
And Meea - you're back!

This sight is good, thats a link to the page wear they have personal pole tricks in small movies.
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
Last night was my first night. It was awesome BTW. But at first I had no idea what to do whith that pole. Eventually I got down a quite simple move of jumping up on the pole with one leg wrapped around and I spin until I get to the floor. Hey, it was more than anyone else was doing...
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
Help!
I have worked in stripclubs foryears but between the 3 i have been in....none has had a pole!
For christmas my darling boyfy bought me a pole ...trouble is its so thick that my hand will not fit around it....is this normal?
whats the average diameter for a pole?
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
Standard pole diameter is two inches, in the U.S. It might be different in the U.K.
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
Well, first of all, don't overrate the value of pole tricks--I've said this manytimes (in fact just the other night at work to a dancer who was lamenting her lack of skill in this department, which considering her immense appeal just standing there, was pointless). You don't really need them to be sexy as all hell onstage--and too many tricks in a routine are no match for a graceful, sensuous performance.
But that having been said (again), they are fun to do, they do get the guys attention, and most important of all, they will help you gain confidence which will be of great value in improving your overall performance.
Having coached many newbies, at work and in the living room (I sure miss that house, even if where I am staying now is better overall), I have found that the best way to start is to grab the pole with your right hand at shoulder height, lean out from the pole, hook your right leg as high as possible with the pole at the back of your knee, and simply fall/spin forward. You can greatly amplify the power and grace of your spin by also locking your left leg on the pole in whatever fashion is comfortable.
Once you've got this down, you'll feel much better about trying the harder tricks--and confidence is your greatest ally!
Don't overestimate the importance of strength when doing the various tricks (though it does help)--leverage is far more important.
It is a really good idea to practice before the club is open or when it is slow, if you can--this is far better than trying to learn with a full house, and the pressure on.
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
haha Djoser, you're right, full house=not time to learn pole tricks, yet it's exactly that kind of pressure that kicks your adrenalin and makes you feel invincible, thus accomplishing a pole trick..
Anyways, my first one that I learned looks great and is incredibly easy:
hold pole with both hands at shoulder height, hold tight! then let go of your feet! bend your legs up and away from the pole and gracefully swing all the way around until you reach the floor.
*** this trick needs momentum (walk around the pole 2 or 3 times and immediatly proceed with the move)
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
Yeah, I think momentum and leverage and learning how much is the key to most pole tricks. I remember when I first started dancing and I saw the girls on the pole doing tricks. I thought it would be so hard to learn but it really wasn't. I really didn't even need that much practice. I mean once you learn how much momentum and leverage you need to use for each trick and you do it a couple times then you should be all set. Also, it helps a lot to get someone to watch you and tell you how it looks when you first learn a new move. You don't wanna think you look great doing something but then in actuality u look like a retard lol. But it's really not all that hard once you get the hang of it in my opinion...or maybe I was just a fast learner ;)
Re: how do you do tricks on the pole???
I will never forget Vanity, who did a pole trick her very first night dancing, after minimal coaching. I immediately started calling her "The Rising Star", and still do when I say hello to her in the club she works these days.
Now of course, she is a virtuoso, and one hell of a sexy woman--but I digress...
