Hiring Question...
About a month ago I went to a popular strip club in NC and the owner took me to the back and after looking at me for a few mintues, hired me on the spot. I gave him my driver's license and told him I would be back on the following Sunday. Well, alot of things happened (a family member died, I came down with Appendicitis). I didn't get a chance to call him to tell him what happened because I was just too stressed. Now I want to work there again, but I'm afriad he won't give me another chance, because I don't sound dependable. What should I do. Should I just contact him, show up at the club, write him a letter. I don't know how employment works at a strip club.
I know this sounds stupid, but I'm really worried that he'll turn me away. This is a nice club, and I'm a college student, and most of the college students I know can't get in because its 21 and over, so I won't be hassled on campus about my job....
Okay. :-\

Re: Hiring Question...
you should have called
managers have heard every excuse in the book and unfortunately real problems do come up, but you will be seen as flaky and unreliable. Don't try to offer excuses (because he probably won't believe them anyway)...go back in person and say you are very sorry, it won't happen again, and you would love to work there as soon as they could schedule you in.

Re: Hiring Question...
Strippers in general have a reputation for being flakey. I wouldn't even worry about it. Just go back and tell them you want to dance. Chances are the manager won't even remember he hired you and you didn't show up - you wouldn't be the first newbie to no-show on starting day.
If he does remember and says something, just be straightforward, tell him some things happened and you weren't able to come in but you'll be very reliable if he's willing to give you the chance. Don't make excuses, just be straight with him and then be sure to show up when you say you will or call from now on.

Re: Hiring Question...
Just go in about 20 min before shift starts and be ready to work. Ask for the Mgr on duty at the door and if it's not the same guy, I would just explain that I was recently hired and am ready to work my first shift. If questions arise from there, you could always tell them you had to seriously consider the occupation and after careful thought you have decided it is what you want to do and that you find their club to meet your standards.

Re: Hiring Question...
If you had appendicitus for real, then the fresh abdominal scar should be pretty good proof that your excuse is real....though that might also dampen the whole look at you a couple minutes and hire your aspect....

Re: Hiring Question...
I agree with Bridgette. Ive never gone in when planned then show up out of the blue months later. Theyre soooo used to it. I dont think it will be a big deal.

Re: Hiring Question...
Well, you know, strippers known for being flakey, but so are managers.
I dobut seriously here, that if you go back, he will remember who you are or were.
I have seen cases where managers have hired someone, and not even remember
that fact.
Oh, well, to each to his/her own.

Re: Hiring Question...
Managers are flaky- I had one pay for my dnce license and then not even remember me when I came to talk about how the club runs. I saw this as a sign of unprofessionalism and never went back.

Re: Hiring Question...
another vote for "managers are flaky". a girl at my club didn't even audition or apply or anything. she jsut decided she wanted to work at the club, showed up and said she'd been hired, and no one questioned it!

Re: Hiring Question...
^^^ Ive done that... thats how I got my job at Broadway Showgirls. I said I was hired but hadnt done my paperwork yet. They took me upstairs, did my paperwork and I started working... Did this at The Body Shop in L.A. too...

Re: Hiring Question...
I agree with everyone else.Just go to the club ask to speak with the manager and be strait forward.Things do come up.You wouldn't be the first girl to ever do something like this. There are girls where i work that have stormed out and quit then they're back about 2 or 3 weeks later.most clubs will hire just about anyone as long as they fit the look.

Re: Hiring Question...
Like they said ^^^^^^
Just go in a little early and explain that you were already hired. I have quit and come back to clubs many times with it being all new management and no one remembering me. Worked out fine.
Or, if you are nervous, call ahead and let them know that you are the way! I've done that too.
