thighs, arghhh
I don't know if I have mentioned this in any other thread I wrote but my thighs are becoming inproportionate with the rest of my body. I use to have thin legs up until a couple of years ago. I notice every year my thighs get bigger and bigger. I have been trying really hard to shape them up as much as possible. I have been doing cardio 4x weekly for 45 minutes. Which includes the stair climber 10 minutes, the elliptical 15 minutes and walking up hill on the treadmill 20 minutes. I also do pilates 3-4x a week and have been doing pilates for 3 years. I watch what I eat on a Weight Watchers based diet which helped me lose weight when I was overweight. I probably take in around 1400-1500 calories a day to maintain my weight. I am 5'3" and 109. The bottoms of my legs are thin, it's just my damn thighs. Any suggestions besides liposuction?

Re: thighs, arghhh
I would work on building your calves up instead of trying to shrink your thighs. Work you calves with as much weight as you can stand. The stair climber could also be building up your thigh muscles, making them bigger, same with walking uphill on the elliptical.

Re: thighs, arghhh
It sounds like you're building up the muscles, which is why they're getting bigger.

Re: thighs, arghhh
I had the same problem about 1 year ago, so I went and got a personal trainer at Gold's Gym in Panama City. He had me run instead of doing the elliptical and stair climber-and I mean run on a 2% incline, nothing more. He also had me do light lunges/squats to make sure I didn't lose to much. So I ran for about 40 minutes to an hour about 4 times a week, light lunges and squats once a week. THis definitely made my thighs go down without building up fat.

Re: thighs, arghhh
I agree that with the cardio you're doing, you're using your thigh muscles a lot, which is most likely building them up even more. You can't target a certain area to lose fat in, so instead of doing cardio that targets your legs, try doing something that works the whole body more, like aerobics. Pilates and yoga might be good for you too, because they're supposed to stretch and lengthen your muscles to help make you look more lean, so maybe give that a try.

You think kickboxing would be good?

Re: thighs, arghhh
I used to do kickboxing for my cardio- it really helped tone my butt and thighs, so maybe you could try that. I didn't do it long enough to build any muscle ( i only did it 2 or 3 days a week for about 2 months). I was definetely more toned.

Re: thighs, arghhh
I think I have mentioned Billy Blank's Boot Camp in probably a dozen threads, but I am really ecstatic about this workout. I used to do lots of leg work with weights at the gym, but this workout has toned my legs more than anything I've ever done. And it BURNS!
I also run inclines on the treadmill and it really seems to tone and lift my thighs and butt.

Re: thighs, arghhh
Maybe you are just getting stripper thighs. I noticed after some time spent dancing my thighs got bigger. All those lapdances can really build up some muscle. Muscular thighs aren't necessarily a bad thing.

Re: thighs, arghhh
Okay yall, I will show you some pictures. Now, I am not huge or overweight my any means, however, I want to look very good. When I was younger I was one of the "top girls" because I was thinner. I want to look better than I did then. How much cardio and weight do I need to lose? Would five lbs. be reasonable?

Re: thighs, arghhh
I've had awful thighs since I can remember and skinny legs so it's like they are not in proportion with my tiny legs and small upper body. I'm like a damn pear. I've been working with a trainer for a year and haven't lost them yet but I have toned up some. I also used to do pilates and still do though not as much. I considered lipo but I'm not sure I'd be happy with the results. Just going to stick with the trainer and tighten up my diet. I think yours look nice though. You might just be being too hard on yourself.

Re: thighs, arghhh
I think your thighs look great! It's not skinny or shapeless...it's womanly!
If you REALLY wanna lose inches though, try doing a bit of pilates everyday, or bicycling.

Re: thighs, arghhh
I think I am going to start running, cycling and kickboxing. Maybe that will help make my thighs thinner. I do pilates 3x weekly and have been for 3 years now.

Re: thighs, arghhh
I was going to suggest Pilates as well, it seems to help build lean, long muscles. Cycling also seems to work well. But I think you look great already!

Re: thighs, arghhh
Running will do the opposite of what you are trying to achieve---it will build up your thigh muscles, and make them appear even bigger, although it will be all muscle. I would try bicycling, or the crosstrainer/elliptical at a very very low resistance, but at a fast pace.
