It seemed like a good idea! (stuff to avoid?)
Anybody have advice on clothes/looks/shoes/hair-dos to avoid?
I'm still trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. Some of the things that seem like they would be obviously sexy/comfy/good money-makers just don't work sometimes - just like some of the things that seem the worst end up being the best, judging from what people are saying in the "outfit of doom" thread.
For me specifically, I'm wondering if
(1) Is it a bad idea to wear my (long curly red) hair up at the gown club I'm at? It makes me look classy, but it's that much less to play with.
(2) Are thigh-high boots a bad idea for dancing?
(3) Do guys care if you wear high (4-5") heels that *don't* have a platform? Does it make your feet hurt more?
But any not-so-obvious advice would be awesome.
And my contribution?
Dresses with lace-up backs may look hot, but it's way too easy to make a total ass out of yourself trying to take it off. I almost pulled my legs out from under me last night when my heels got caught in the laces!

I learned this lesson the hard way. You must have at least a 1" platform. Not only do single-sole shoes detract from the stripper image, but they hurt your feet over the long term. I went through a stiletto phase 2 years ago, where for 8 months or so I ONLY wore non-platform stilettos, 4-5". I ended up breaking a bone in my foot, without realizing that is was broken, and it reset itself in a weird way. So now my foot hurts all the time. You NEED the shock absorbency of platforms.

yup- non platform shoes hurt like a bitch. more platform, more absorbing the pounding.
I actually like dancing in thigh highs (I'm not sure what your gown club would think though, but there's some super hot silver glitter boots I've had my eye on for a long time). you don't scrape your knees nearly as much, however you do have to watch out if during a lap dance you catch the zipper tag on the guys' clothing. I don't remember that happening, but just a thought.
Also, better grip on the pole, and it's an easy place to stash cash quickly (though if it's for longer periods of time, be sure to slide it into the sock)
You could wear your hair up, but be sure that you have an easy way to bring it down. Definitely a good move to do during stage or lap dance, perhaps with the chopsticks, or some other hair clip. then, later, put it back up and do it all over again.

We have a costume night on Saturdays where we're allowed to wear some pretty wacky stuff if we like -- there's usually enough girls dressed "normally" that it doesn't freak the customers out too much.
I'm thinking of splurging on some black patent thigh highs with laces and buckles so that I can break out my vinyl hot shorts and zip corset, grab a riding crop, and go all dominatrix on their asses. I just want to be sure I can still dance around and not have the tops of the boot do weird crap (they're pretty good boots, but I was still worried). And sorta like the boxing costume, if a customer starts being an ass, there's a weapon handy.

I started in the eighties when single soled steel heel stillettoes were the norm. I now have fallen arches, bad knees, a bad back, and a bunyon on one of my feet (thank god not noticable in my heels), most of which the doc and chiro attribute to those shoes. Platforms reduce the burden on your body to compensate for the shift in body weight caused by heels. With the platform, you can for instance wear a six inch heel (w/two inch platform), while the acual hight is only four inches as far as your bod is concerned. Your feet aren't crushed, & you still get the hight & illusion of longer legs, the lifted butt, arch in the back, etc. w/o nearly as much wear and tear on your body. Stillettoes hurt, and damage your body, I would advise not to wear them even outside the club unless for very short periods of time, and always 4 or less inches. The platforms take getting used to, but the bennies are worth it.

Hahahah, hard earned lessons.
Thigh high boots are not for petite women. I borrowed a pair & looked like I was swimming in them....too much shoe for me....
Move hair up & down through the night, if you like updo-s.... I think it's a consensus that long, flowing hair is a moneymaker......I know, it's a hassle to "work the hair".....5 years of poor smoke-soaked tresses here.......but the men like it.
My top suggestion is to avoid slacking off and giving customers "breaks" (like talking too long for free, or letting regulars get "comfortable" with the amount of attention you allot to them...) If I could go back and do things differently, I would have realized the career of a stripper is way too short and one cannot afford to be too easygoing or "nice." All it boils down to is....a high-stress sales job with high overhead costs!!!!
Re: It seemed like a good idea! (stuff to avoid?)
Haha, maxine, I think it's a low-stress job that now justifies the $$ i spend on myself, anyway. No matter what sales job I would have, I woul dhave to buy a work wardrobe.
I woul dNOT recomment boots on a non-spinning pole. The friction tears them up. Other than that, they are good for pole climbing and hiding bruises.
Work the red hair! Guys love it, and it is very unique.
