Re: Where did the money go?
so you're in the top .5% (or is that 5%?) and you're never breaking $200.
yeah, time to find a new club! Top earners should be making at least $300 every night, imo. Your fees are excessive, considering the earning potential there.

Not to but my custy ass into this thread, but does anyone else see the problem here?
Billy I'm sorry that things are slow, but it sounds like your club is making the same mistake that I see so many making, namely catering to an "upscale" market demographic that in many parts of the country no longer exists. I swear some of these club owners act as though its still the 1990's.
Keep reading the forums here and you'll see that you're in good company.
Re: Where did the money go?
It's your club, I am pretty sure. I am making much more than that in a bar with a juke box and no stage. Find a new club, sweetie.
Re: Where did the money go?
I work at a crappy dive bar in a small town and make a lot more than that. Of course I in the top 0.000001% so that may explain it...

LOL!!
Re: Where did the money go?
I read an article today that said strip clubs were up.
Re: Where did the money go?
Yep Al is clueless... this is the slow season.. .usually Dec - Mid Feb is slow... that really depends on the area but most clubs are on the down now.
Re: Where did the money go?
My club is also slow right now. From Thanksgiving through the end of March, I make about half (or less) of what I normally make the rest of the year. Once tax season is over in the spring, it really starts to pick up again. It is the slow season, and most of the dancers in this area are really hurting.
Re: Where did the money go?
I agree with Madison about most clubs in the 'snow belt' being economically depressed from December through at least March. This is due to a combination of several factors ...
- guys are more reluctant to travel at night in bad weather
- heating bills take a big bite out of most guys' budgets
- Christmas bills (i.e. January credit card bills) suck up spare cash
- typically higher 'northern state' taxes make guys nervous about how much they might have to pay in until their tax returns are actually completed in Feb/Mar, so they cut back 'discretionary spending' until their tax returns are filed or their tax refund checks arrive in April/May.
- typically higher 'northern state' pay rates allow many 'upscale' customers to exceed the Social Security income tax cap in Oct/Nov resulting in temporarily increased take home paychecks, but their paychecks return to normal in January.
- many 'northern state' guys who DO have money to spend wind up travelling to a 'southern state' for a vacation during the winter months.
Re: Where did the money go?
A good club should be advertising and running promotions during the slow season to drive up business.
The upscale clubs here seem to be full Fridays & Saturdays during the slow season.
Re: Where did the money go?
Our club is still full on a fri/sat night but the girls still are not making any money because they just want to 'drink'. A lot of us are finding outselves working 8 - 12 hour shifts so we can make $300 where as any other time of year we work a 6 hour shift and make $500... its a hard time but things will pick up!

Then management needs to do something about it. If they want to just drink, they should be hanging out in a bar, not a strip club.
Re: Where did the money go?
How long have you worked at this club? Have you worked there last winter and the winter before so you can compare your earnings to that time period?
This business slows down in December and January for obvious reasons. Plus you live in an area where it snows. I book in areas like that too, and guys don't come out when the weather is potentially bad.
The cost of visiting these "upscale" clubs is becoming problematic for many guys. $45 for a nude dance. Thats a lot of money and not an amount many guys are willing to part with.
How bad are you really doing nowadays? Are you clearing $200 after payouts on average every night, or is $200 after payouts a "good" night?
In your area I don't think you will do much better. People cut down their spending during the holidays and after. If you are averaging upper hundreds to $200 a night after payouts I would hang tight for awhile and see how things go over the next 4-6 weeks. It sounds like from the tone of your post, that $200 is a good night, and you are having lots of nights in the low hundreds and less.
You could always hire on at a Knoxville club and work several clubs for a month or so to see how things go. Money fluctuates in this business, and those of us who are veteran dancers learn how to deal with the down cycles, and get hired in a handful of clubs so we can move around from club to club as needed.
Re: Where did the money go?
This subject has been hammered to death in this thread.

So you would turn away customers at your bar who aren't interested in buying dances and just want to drink? ::) ::)
Re: Where did the money go?
^^ thats exactly what i was thinking Paris. The club makes money off the drinks, not the amount of dances sold.

This is the ultimate question ... whether or not the decline is strictly due to seasonal trends, or whether the decline is due to financial conditions in general getting worse in your particular area.
Where Toronto is concerned, it is arguable that the recent animosity between Canadian and US gov't leaders has led to new US policies which have harmed the global competitiveness of the Canadian dollar and Canadian stocks, discouraged US business investment in Canada, as well as harmed Canadian export sales to the US, and with it has harmed the profitability of Canadian companies (exception Canadian gas, oil and electricity) - many of which have corporate headquarters near Toronto. Thus the decline in earnings in Toronto clubs is arguably not just a seasonal downtrend.
As to particular regions of the US, the fed regularly publishes its so called Beige Book on regional economic activity - and a fresh report has just been released. Unfortunately, the Beige Book only breaks down the report to 12 different districts ... with the Richmond VA region probably being the closest available to Knoxville

Oh come on Melonie, you and I know it is the Illuminati behind it. :D

The club makes money off of the drinks and the dances. No I wouldn't turn them away, but I would encourage them to either sit by the stage and tip or buy private dances.
One thing I notice about a lot of clubs is that the cheap guys will sit at the tables closest to the stage so they can watch without tipping. When the club is slow and there is room at the stage, those tables can be roped off. No free shows.
Re: Where did the money go?
^^ So where is this wonderful place??

Actually my club doesnt make money off the dances. We dont have tip outs and fees and percentages. If im working on my own(not on schedual) I pay $30 club fee thats it, if I want to I tip the DJ(I always do) but its only like $10 or so. So really if the dancers arnt making any money its no loss to the club mgmt at all. And stage tipping isnt a common practise up here. Once n awhile a guy will jump on stage with $5 and tip the girl but its a rare thing. So the club is packed, mgmt is making money off drinks and the girls fend for themselves. There is nothing the club can do to make guys spend money on dances.
