losing my faith in humanity
i don't understand the world. people are horrible. they starve and beat animals and children. they abuse their elderly parents. they shoot, rape, maim and wage war. i'm sure there is good left out there, but i can't seem to remember it. does anyone have any true inspiring stories to help me stop thinking like this? it seems there are terrible things everywhere. please, post anything that will remind me that world isn't actually hopeless. *(~sad smyle~)*

Re: losing my faith in humanity
It is nearly impossible to think of anything that is so evil, so cruel, so selfish, so ugly, so crass, so destructive, so awful, so barbaric etc that no one will do it. If it is possible to do something, no matter how dispicable or debased it is, someone somewhere will do it, is probably doing it right now.
But, it is also nearly impossible to think of anything that is so good, so kind, so generous, so beautiful, so classy, so constructive, so wonderful, so noble etc that no one will do it. If it is possible to do something, no matter how admirable or noble, someone somewhere will do it, is probably doing it right now.
Strange, isn't it?

most people are good.
and almost everyone is nice if you have some connection.

Re: losing my faith in humanity
If you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all.

Re: losing my faith in humanity
Reality check: this type of violence, murder, rape, abuse has been going on for years. Just now theres a news reporter or someone who cares enough to say something about it.
On this earth there will always *seem* that there is more bad than good but its the good that dont get rewarded enough. The good is still out there.

Anything? How can the world be hopeless when I'm in it and I have sex with a hot stripper sometimes nightly?

Re: losing my faith in humanity
STOP WATCHING THE NEWS AND READING THE NEWSPAPER. They only report the horrible things that go on and very rarely report all of the good.

Re: losing my faith in humanity
Volunteer at a soup kitchen - or a battered womens home - then you will feel like you are making the world a better place - BECAUSE YOU ARE!

Re: losing my faith in humanity
i never watch the news. except the ones where they review celebrity's clothing, most often because i think the opinions of the reviewers are funny. and i don't read the paper, except the column with pet care advice and the comics, and even then only when i visit my mother, because i don't get the paper. people think it's funny how out of touch i am. it still hits me though. sometimes i just need a breather. but thanks, you guys are great. :)
lol @ blade
and i want to volunteer, but unfortunately, i have a very severe chronic migraines which continue to get worse, and my body has started to reject my medications. i have been having trouble even leaving the house, and i'm not sure if i'll even be able to manage the 2 classes i plan to take this semester. but i'm seeing a neurologist, and i'm sure things will get better.... it just takes time. baby steps, right?

Re: losing my faith in humanity
World's a better place- an old co-worker of mine who TRULY deserved to work her way up the ranks in a State wildlife conservation department...DID! Her picture was in the paper a couple days ago- from technician to biologist in less than 5 years. Finally, a good thing happened to a good person. In a State agency, no less...LOL
I try not to dwell on the badness in life- we could drown in it. My happiness is in defiance of a hard world.

Seriously though, quit being a person and become a Goddess or turn to who is yours. Problem solved. You are so much better then this crap. Shine on. How will people be able to see how open you are if your filled with darkness? Lighten up.

Re: losing my faith in humanity
*(~smyles at susie~)* easier said than done. unless you believe in those "enlightenment in 3 easy steps" workshops... lol. but i'm working on it. "shine on". i like that. that'll be my new motto. :)

Re: losing my faith in humanity
venus, remember what you wrote about your man yesterday? it gave me hope and made me believe there are people there worthy of being alive (thanks again), and their presence does make a difference. look at it like quality over quantity. and change in the world is happening for the better. i know it's way out there for some, but take a look at www.whatsuponplanetearth.com, click on latest update and look at the archaives too. always makes me feel better because it really resonates. stuff makes sense to me when i take in a big picture and look thru the illusion of the physical world. sometimes things need to be left alone to run their course. be grateful for what you have, change what's in your power to change, and don't stress over what's not.
besides, everyone and everything is interconnected, and don't underestimate the power of thought and will. you can make a change just by wishing for the good, believing it, seeing it as it already is happening. the more people raise their consciousness, the stronger it will get universally. all begins within.
anyway, i'm more interested in causes than effects.

Re: losing my faith in humanity
also you may like www.dreammoods.com. go to forums and then to spirituality and spiritual awareness. they have people asking the same questions you do, and there are people there who are seriously brilliant.

Re: losing my faith in humanity
You know what reinforces my total lack of faith in humanity? Non-strippers looking for affirmation of good in the world on a stripper website when clearly they need some kind of real-life support system. Get out in the world and create one . . .

Re: losing my faith in humanity
Well said Susan...
Edited because I was way to harsh..

Here is an interesting story about CIDA city Campus in South Africa (http://www.cida.co.za/). I think it is a true story:

Re: losing my faith in humanity
Ugliness and beauty can be found where you choose to find them. The horrible things in life are what make newspapers sell and news programs get viewers. Also understand that for every horrible person in the world there are a thousand awesome ones. You don't hear the story about how a mom cheers her kid up when he gets a scraped knee or the police officer who spends hours rescuing someone's pet that is trapped somewhere. While the latest horrible crime against humanity is making the headlines, read through that a bit and find the stories of the local high-school student who learned to walk again after a car accident and came in 1st place in his track meet or the homeless person who overcame adversity to become a successful business owner and start a charity organization of their own. That is what real life is about. It's not about the blight on humanity you read about, it's about the little things in life that aren't newsworthy but are, in actuality, many times more wonderful and important than any front-page headline on a newsstand.

Re: losing my faith in humanity
I was just watching the DVD March of the penguins the other night, and it was really to sad to think while watching it that emperor penguins have more love and compassion in them than most people I know.
