when my friend auditioned at a sc, they asked what her least favorite song was and made her dance to it. what's funny is she lied (britney spears - baby one more time) and they weren't any wiser, and she got the job.
anyone else ever have to audition to a song they specifically hated?
Re: just thought i'd share...
That's a pretty tough way to audition! I guess they aren't worried about hiring too many more dancers, lol...
I like your suggestions, especially the less commonly played ones.

thanks! i try to be unique... i don't know what you mean by less common though, cause i don't go to clubs very often. can you clue me in? (i know it's different for in every region/club/crowd, but in general?)
Re: just thought i'd share...
Well, as in the first two categories, which contain artists I haven't heard, songs I haven't heard (that I know of--I play songs nighly that I don't bother to find out the name of--I go by the numbers, lol) by groups I do know, and remixes I'm not familiar with.
We all play the same old shit a lot because the customers want it, the dancers want it, and usually management as well. I still like some songs I have played and heard a lot--but most of them I am bored to death with. The more unique and distinctive the song, the more I like it, especially if it's also hot, lol...
After a long testing process in my club, I finally was granted number one spot (for now, lol--there's a permanent ad for DJs--and always has been). I finally won this protracted and bitter battle by virtue of playing a lot of shit my manager hadn't ever heard before.
Sorry I can't be more articulate or specific about this--but I have gotten preciouslittle sleep in the last three months, lol, and it's starting to hurt my verbal skills--not to mention my typing.
Re: just thought i'd share...
that's crazy you have to fight so hard to just play new songs. you'd think they would like to mix it up a little but i guess not....people are funny and get stuck in their ways. i am always open to new music. like you said as long as it's hot! congrats on being #1 and good luck with sleep :D
Re: just thought i'd share...
A lot of stripclubs are bastions of conformity. You might as well turn on the radio and tune it to the worst of the pop radio stations--you'll hear about the same thing.
Radio sucks, for the most part--and helps make my job a lot more frustrating at times. Much as I detest pop radio, it is impossible to avoid its influence, when certain dancers or customers are around, lol. You'd think hearing the same song every hour would be enough, lol, without wanting to hear it at work.
The club I work in is far from perfect 9I'm working on it!), but thankfully one good thing about it is that the manager has good taste in music.
Got some sleep, finally--thanks for asking...
Re: just thought i'd share...
I know all but 3 of those, and i would play most of them, depending on the clientele, what time it was, etc. The collective soul song is called "december", btw. >:~)
