Re: working opening night
I've done it once and will never do it again. So many girls show up for opening and never show up again.....I'd rather wait a week or so and see how it goes, then go in once the dancers there for the hype have gone. JMHO
Re: working opening night
that's what I was afraid of, but I don't wait and then miss the boat. The first thing they asked is if I could work opening night.

Has anyone worked opening night at a club that's really hyped up?
Yes, and it turned out to be 90% hype and 10% extra profit.
I don't mean to cause undue concern, but in the NYC/NJ area the same thing has happened in the past in regard to particular clubs choosing to 'blacklist' dancers who go to work for a competing club (chain). With absolutely no shortage of other 'hot' dancers waiting to fill any open slots in the established clubs which have 'proven' their earnings potential, this has served as a major risk factor for dancers wishing to explore supposedly 'greener pastures' in the same local area. Therefore many dancers are very reluctant to risk being 'blacklisted' from established club (chains) unless the earnings potential and stability of the 'greener pasture' club are fairly well known. By taking the risk of 'blacklisting' yourself at other established club (chains) in Philly, in exchange for getting in on the 'ground floor' of a new club, you are basically making a high risk bet that the new club's management, business model, and earnings potential, is something that you can live with - with absolutely no established business track record to go on.
I would also remind you that the fact that just because one club's business model goes over very well in it's original home city is no guarantee that the same business model will work in a different city. This is usually even more the case when the two cities are dissimilar politically, economically, demographically etc.
Re: working opening night
it is a huge risk, but I am not totally thrilled with my current club (been there 2 weeks after my old club shut down.) It has a reputation for girls making money, and they do. I did too. But now I realize why....they don't stop guys from touching during couch dances. I guess if I could never work at my current club again, I'd be okay with that, but there is a short list of decent clubs in Philly. I am comfortable with the contact level of my current club, but it bothers me out that guys get to do it for $20. I do so many more dances though.
huge risk! I'm scared, but I have faith in the business model of CH2 since it has established itself in Las Vegas, which we all know is a very tough market...but yes, very different than Philadelphia. We are not a huge tourist city and there is not a huge surplus of dancers.
Re: working opening night
I had so much fun at opening night at a top show club. Yes, there were features from all over the U.S. and the world -and yes it was packed with girls that were just flown in for opening week. it was PACKED. it was a PARTY. yes there was tons and tons of competition but EVERYONE(customers) were in high spirits -- all the management, owners, shareholders were there. A million girls but I still made really good money and got free food drink and show as well. (its neat to watch features!) awesome choreography, costumes, etc.u dont have that much to lose. What club are you leaving?was it hard to get a job there?r they picky? did they waive house fees?
Re: working opening night
I've worked two opening nights, nothing as renowned as Crazy Horse but still a big deal for the area. Both times were as Cheetahchick described, definitely packed and crazy but worth it. It's nice to see the guys all pumped up and having fun, kind of how they show strip clubs in the movies, instead of just sitting around with the same old stony expressions. The management usually tries hard to make sure everyone's accomodated and having fun, something that generally seems to slack off over time.
As for the dancers from Vegas and NY, it's not as intimidating as the hype and most of them leave after a week. Opening night lasts more than a night as guys will eventually want to get over there and check it out. It's also good because it gets you excited again, puts some new energy into the job, esp. if you want to try out new looks, moves, etc.
Though I don't know how your club works, in my experience the old clubs always threaten their dancers who want to try the new club but will always be thrilled if you return.
The last opening night I worked the management was buying VIP dances for all the contractors, workers, etc. that built the club and I just happened to be there at the time. Lucky! I always try to work an opening night if i can.
Re: working opening night
Emily, I would probably stay put and watch how Crazy Horse does over the next 3-4 months. If it seems stable businesswise, and not overrun with dancers, I would then consider getting hired.
If Philly were like many cities I have worked in where most girls are hired at multiple clubs, then you are not out in the street with nowhere to work if business is slow or your earnings aren't as good as before.
It definately is a risk considering clubowners there don't accept girls working at multiple clubs.

Anyway, I am working opening night and I'm so unsure what to expect. It'll be a Wednesday. I heard they hired a lot of girls and they will probably all be there the opening night. They are importing some from Las Vegas and NYC for the beginning too.
The club I work at now forbids anyone from working at this club, and if you do, you will not be allowed to return. It's a huge leap, but I like the idea of starting fresh. I'm just so intimidated by a huge new upscale club with no idea of what's going to happen.
I hope it's good. It's so beautiful and the management seems really cool. Has anyone worked opening night at a club that's really hyped up?
Deja vu for me. I have two words: Hollywood Showgirls.
The same exact thing happened with HS opened here locally. It was meant to surpass the only top club at the time - Players Showgirls. Now they are, imo, equally top clubs as they each have their pros and cons.
I started at HS from day dot. They had two opening nights. One where only invited people were allowed to attend and the place was literally packed. Everyone including other club owners were there checking the place out.
Not much money to be made as it was mainly curious cats, as such. The next night (Friday) was the official open night .. the one where the public would be allowed inside.
If you ever get the chance to work within a brand spanking new strip club, do so. I loved it. It was a great way to initiate conversation within the first 6 months as a hellava lot of people would there out of curiosity. I used this curiosity to sell dances.
This club also imported dancers from Melbourne who hung around for the first week or three then left to never come back.
It did allow me to start afresh.
I worked opening night only because I wanted to work in the club... as I was excited as well.
It being a brand spanking new club made me feel great about going into work to a certain extent ... at the same time, I learnt soon enough that it was far from perfect. I learnt its nuiances.
Now, it is not like it was at the beginning. It is too much like a nightclub with strippers. The music is too loud to carry on a decent conversation and the set-up (seating) isn't conductive to an easy flowing sales environment. The club can look lop-sided at times due to everyone being near the stage to watch the show and no one near the bar or beyond in the lounge area (where you can have a conversation).
Plus when it is packed, it is awful to try to work within.
At first it was great and I highly recommend it. Hopefully your club will work out better than my club.
As for the theat about not being able to work within the club you left... the other clubs will stay true to that for a while... then dancers at the new club who decide it is not for them will start to go back to their old clubs... and this is where you realise that the threat was just a tactic and you do have the option of going back (eventually).
Esp. if you leave on generally good terms.
Re: working opening night
well, so far it sounds somewhat promising. I'm not too intimidated by the Las Vegas imports only because I know it's the good season in LV right now, so probably the really insane hustlers are staying put. I really like the idea of starting fresh and my current club is really starting to get to me.
I don't think most girls will work at the new club and their existing club. They are being very strict. They even fired the housemom at my club, who gave them notice that she was going to be at the new club. They had no housemom the past two nights, which is ridiculous (and they still made us pay the entire housefee, which includes housemom and DJ tip-outs.) BS!
Re: working opening night
Yes I agree that paying the extra $5 at Oasis despite having no housemom is BS! DJ Tommy is the hottest DJ at Oasis, so he shoulda gotten the additional $5 instead of it going to the house LOL! >:( Well I gave him an extra $5 anyway...but only because he is good-looking! :) lol
