Remembering faces
long time reader, first time poster...
How do you guys remember faces and/or names?
Im a big fan of the big smile, lots of eye contact, a little wink etc. but i find when i get off stage or back from a dance with another guy i cant remember the people i have seeded, its really frustrating and sort of renders my eye contact and smile useless when i cant follow through with it.
I do pretty well currently, but im convinced that if i could chase up they guys eyeing me from the stage, i could be doing alot better.
Less searching for those faces, (which cant look good) and a slicker, busier looking me.

Re: Remembering faces
Remembering faces is easy (well for me at the very least as I'm a visual person in that respect) it is the names that allude me (unless I say it over and over or see the person numerous times).
In the end, work on remembering names AND faces. This will put you ahead of the pack, as such.
If it is a busy night and you can't "see" or "remember" the person.. move on. Simple as that at the same time please do work on improving your memory.

Re: Remembering faces
Im quite short and as odd as it sounds, the customers look different from the stage than they do on the floor (looking up, as i often am).
Some nights they all look the same to me.

Re: Remembering faces
I am great at remembering faces the day that they come...... It's when they come back that I feel like an idiot. we meet so many people as dancers, I am great at remebering faces, but names just go in one ear and out the other........

Re: Remembering faces
usually when they do come back, If I don't remember thier name, I shoot the shit for a bit, and get them to tell me without asking. I usually recruit another dancer for this, and then give her five bucks or more depending ob what he spent on me. this has saved my ass a million times, and most of the girls ay my club are glad to help out; hell I've done it lot's of times for them...... we all :D work together........

Re: Remembering faces
Watch where he goes to sit, or remember some other unique detail about him like his hair, tie, etc. I will try to fix on a guy' s shirt or jacket, so I can see it form across the room.
Although one guy put on his coat 'cuz he was feeling a little chilly, and I thought it was a differet guy . . . . oops.

Re: Remembering faces
First of all, remember that EVERYTHING begins in thought. When you program yourself to do something negative, you should expect negative results. Years ago, I used to say all the time that I was bad with names. By me saying this constantly, the only thing I would program my brain with was the fact that I was "bad with names." A good friend of mine, a hypnotist in fact, told me that I was programming myself poorly and he got me on the right track. Now, should a name not come to me quickly, I simply say, "I'm really good with names and I know it will come to me quickly." Low and behold, within a few seconds the name pops right in my head. So first start getting on the right path and stop insisting that you are bad with names. Remind yourself frequently that you are, in fact, quite good with names. In no time at all, you will start to see results.
Now, this being said, my partner, Jamie, gave me a great way to assist in the remembering of names which is very effective. Whenever someone tells you their name, imagine you are writing that name right on their forehead with a big, black, magic marker. Take 2 or 3 seconds in the conversation and just focus on their forehead and visualize yourself writing that name right on their forehead. Don't just picture it there, imagine you are actually writing it. After a while, you'll actually laugh because it will be the ONLY thing you see on them and you will continue to see it every time you see that person. It is a great way to take something from a thought into something that is near physical.

Re: Remembering faces
I am terrible at remembering names and faces. Apparently left handed people find it harder to remember faces and right handed people find it harder to remember names, or is it the other way around I forget? Anyway I am semi ambidextrous and use both sides of my brain roughly equally so I figured that's why I have trouble with both. I have made improvements on remembering names though. When I'm told a name I have to repeat it to myself about 3 times and it really helps! Sometimes it takes a moment or two for the name to come back to me, but it does much more often than it used to. I love Dancerwealths suggestion though, I am going to try it!
