what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
For me it's "Kiss of Fire". I read reviews on amazon and people think it's stupid or whatever, and no one i tried to watch it with got it either, but i've seen it so many times, more than any other film in my whole life, and every time it gives me shivers and makes me cry. The soundtrack is perfect, too. In the reviews people seem to dissect and analyze so much they miss the point and the whole beauty of it.
It's about a stripper, btw, but not about stripping. Really makes me want to go live in some small obscure beach town, work as a motel maid by day and strip at night, lol. I think it's filmed somewhere in GA. Never been big on details.

"Dragonheart." I'm the only one on planet Earth who likes it.

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
"Ju Dou".It's a Chinese foreign film.

Legally Blonde. It's not that no one else likes it... It just doesn't mean the same thing to everyone else as it does to me. :( She could have everything handed to her on a silver platter, but she decides to challenge herself instead. If SHE can do it, so can I!!! :D

OMG, I love that movie. Zhang Yimou is the greatest filmmaker in the history of cinema, seriously! I've seen all his movies and I love them all! "To Live" is the best one, in my opinion. Have you seen it?
The last one I saw was "Happy Times" - it was his first comedy. It's hilarious.

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
I haven't seen that one yet.I may have to go rent it.
Thanks!!!

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
"To Live" is my all-time favorite movie.

I am really affected by "Vanilla Sky." Not sure what everyone else thought of it...my ex thought it was crap. I enjoyed some of the quotes, and felt I could relate to the idea of missed oppourtunities, and dealing with the consequences of of your decisions.

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
"Children of Dune"
What can I say, I'm a Sci-Fi geek and its a great story with great music. :P
-
Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
I REALLY liked the original "Dune".
-
Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
I feel ya on Vanilla Sky. No one seemed to get it but me. I remember leaving the theater watching people leave with blank stares on their face. I felt like i was the only one who really got it. It was a really deep movie.

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
I liked "Contact" and "What Dreams May Come". I also really liked "Memoirs of A Geisha" but the book was better.

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
The movie "Dragonfly" tore me up I couldn't watch the whole thing.

Dead Man, with Johnny Depp...
It's a black & white western, with all the classical elements of the mystical Journey of the Hero. It's also funny as hell if you have the right sense of humor, and has a lot of really good actors in supporting roles (like Billy Bob Thorton in his best role to date that I've seen, even if it is short).
Johnny Depp does a great job, playing a shy, timid wannabe accountant who tranforms himself into a mystical badass killer, because he has no choice but to do so--but I am already giving away too much, lol...
It also has a fantastic score written and played by Neil young, who thankfully doesn't sing at all, but just plays the best guitar I have ever heard.
It is also the most authentic western I have ever seen--horses peeing in muddy streets lined with ramshackle buildings; filthy, unwashed cowboys who can't read, etc.
But no one has ever heard of it, much less seen it--and those few I have gotten to watch it were pretty much unenthusiastic.

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
"The Human Stain".
Hugely underrated, in my opinion. I just loved Nicole Kidman's character in that movie. I could watch it over and over again...
Also, "Ginger Snaps". It's Canadian, and way better than "Mean Girls" or "Heathers".
...and one more: "waydowntown"...another Canadian film, that really didn't deserve to sink without a trace, but unfortunately most of them do. It was incredible.

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
The movie "Steel Magnolias" has to be my favorite ever. It's based in (and was filmed) in Louisiana, so it always makes me feel at home. It's just a great movie about standing by your friends and family even though they can be a pain and not make the best decisions. It always makes me appreciate my family, especially my mother. It's where I got the line in my siggy "I'd rather have 30 minutes of wonderful, than a lifetime of nothing special." It's full of great lines. Hilarious chick flick.
"There's so much static electricity in this room I pick up everything but boys and money."
"Weezer, you look like hammered shit." "Don't you speak to me that way Drum Eatonton!" "I'm sorry. You look like regular shit."

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?

Hahaha.. I have to agree with Steel Magnolias!
"Don't try to get on my good side.. I no longer have one"
"Thanks Weezer.. I always did love a good piece of ass."

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
"The Salton Sea" (2001)- w/ Val Kilmer, Vincent D'Onofrio & Peter Saarsgard. It's a very lyrical tale.....a couple of my friends couldn't watch it though.
"Freeway" (1998 ) w/ Reese Witherspoon, Keifer Sutherland & Brittany Murphy. A perverse retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood tale. Mi chola mas favorita in the world (Mesquita) steals a bunch of scenes.
Both films set in Southern California, also known as Hell. LOL
PS There's an episode of "Northern Exposure" (a TV series) where Shelley the pregnant barmaid has a pre-delivery meeting with several representatives of modern femininity. Mother Earth was a black woman in motorcycle leather. I have not forgotten that, ever.

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
Hmmm This is a FANTASTIC question.
A movie that gave me sooooo much hope during my childhood dark times would be "Transformers: The Movie" I'll never forget
"Why throw away your life so wrecklessly?!"
"That's a question you should ask yourself, Megatron"
Another movie that hit so close to home because I felt so like Peter Parker was 'Spider-Man'.
Don't laugh, anyone who's been after that perfect girl but just couldn't get her to notice knows what I'm talking about. I spent my entire highschool being everyone's 'Friend' and the whole time there was only one girl I wanted, but alas, I was teh tool. We where good friends tho. Heh it's wonderful to get made fun of until someone needed help on something scholastic. Drawing comics didn't help my popularity much either. Would you believe I still get made fun of for that? What makes Pete so awesome is, he's always down on his luck, but when his chips are down and he can't even afford to support himself and his family, he still puts on the spidey suit and gives selflessly to the lives of others. If only I could be so similar and untainted. Stan Lee definatly captured so many hearts in his character.
Another fantastic movie that I will never be thankful enough for is Unbreakable.
I read comics as a form of escape. I got made fun of by my whole family, but for some reason, after watching that movie, the most integral man in my life, my father, came home and apologized to me for it.
Either way, I am always up for the inspirational movies, but lately I've been watching Cowboy Bebop: The Movie
Vincent: Why don't you shoot?
Spike: What?
Vincent: What's wrong? Lose your nerve? You started out so fearlessly. Go on. Pull the trigger.
Spike: I don't think so. I blow the bounty if I blow you away.
Vincent: I have no fear of death. It just means dreaming in silence. A dream that lasts for eternity.
Spike: [sarcastically] You're an original, aren't you?

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
I absolutely love Freeway! Relatable and so funny.
Was addicted to "City of Angels", but can't watch it anymore due to association with an ex.
Two more for me. "Scarlet Diva" with Asia Argento (sp?), and "Great Expectations" (the G. P. and Ethan Hawke version). Actually i loved it for the soundtrack and novelization as well. Oh, "Pumpkin" too (wish i could find a soundtrack; that Emiliana Torrini song is to die for).

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
-- legally blonde... despite not being blonde:
"what, like it's hard?" (that got me through my first two years of law school)
and
Serena: "You passed Spanish because you gave Professor Montoya a lap dance after
the final".
Margot: "Yeah... Luckily!" (sadly didn't get to test this theory out)
as for ball-tearing can't sleep/disturbing movie:
once were warriors.

Re: what movie really affects you that no one else seems to get?
Yall who like Vanilla Sky: Go find Abre los Ojos (Open Your Eyes). Made in Spain, has subtitles. The movie Vanilla Sky was trying to copy. (I hate cheap copies) This one was much better; the details and film were rather more disturbing, and the acting better. Also, that thing people say about "losing something in the translation" is oh so true.
IMO, Tom Cruise only wanted to make that movie because he saw the original, wanted to fuck Penelope Cruz and used the whole thing as a ploy to bag her. Nutty Tomboy ::)
Anyway, my answer to the OP's question is Milo and Otis. Don't even ask. heh
