DONATE a show! Exotic Dancers for Cancer
I hope I can leave this in the SG section since it isn't for profit... pwetty please??
;D ;D
On Sunday February 26th, The Drake Showlounge in Vancouver, BC will be hosting the third annual Exotic Dancers for Cancer fundraising event. Our first event two years ago raised money for an ex-dancer with breast cancer, since deceased. Last year we raised money for the hospice that had taken care of her. This year, after much effort, The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation has agreed to accept our donation! This is a big deal, as 'big' charities have all previously refused to accept stripper money. We are setting a precedent in Canada with this one!
The event will feature continuous shows. We have a fair number of girls signed up, but we need more! This is an incredibly fulfilling and fun event- I have donated the past two years, and the events are indescribeable for the level of camraderie and dancer pride they inspire. An added bonus is the freebies (food! t-shirts! swag!) and networking that comes along with it (not that often you get to hang out and chill with managers, agents, owners and other dancers in such a setting).
This is a call out to ALL dancers or wannabe dancers in the general area (I'm looking at you, WA state!). We are featuring an 'amateur hour' this year, where newbie dancers can strut their stuff for a good cause, meet agents and owners, and get to know dancer mentors. Experienced dancers can be featured in the regular lineup, and will get the same perks! If you've wondered about dancing in Van, this is a great time to test the waters!
If you are coming from outside the city and need a place to stay, I can provide a place or help you find one that suits you.
Please PM me for more info! We really want to make this event great- the more dancers the better! Thanks :)
Re: DONATE a show! Exotic Dancers for Cancer
This really is a great event - lots of fun, and tons of "feel-good".
Unfortunately I can't participate this year as I'm a million miles away now (not quite that far, but sure feels like it), but I have enjoyed this so much in the past, and I strongly recommend it to anyone interested.
Best of luck with everything this year! Miss ya lots!
Re: DONATE a show! Exotic Dancers for Cancer
Aw, Ara, I still can't believe you moved so far away! Boo. TNT events aren't the same withoutcha. :(
Re: DONATE a show! Exotic Dancers for Cancer
Scarlett-
How WEIRD! I just posted something similar to this, before reading through the other threads.
Is it possible for you to contact the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to recommend American breast cancer charities? We are hosting a fundraiser in the spring, and want to donate to some sort of breast cancer foundation.
Any help/direction would be appreciated.
Also, if you need a children's organization (for say, a holiday part), The National Childhood Cancer Foundation is a biggie, and has accepted money from us for the past 3 years. I'd be happy to put you in touch with my contact there.
help me find a boobie foundation!!!
Re: DONATE a show! Exotic Dancers for Cancer
I will definitely ask the cooridinator if she can recommend some US-based boobie foundations.
Pan Dah- you can read up (in a very ad hoc fashion) here: http://www.nakedtruth.ca/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=59
And buy an "Exotic Dancers for Cancer" or " Support your local Stripper" tshirt here:

Re: DONATE a show! Exotic Dancers for Cancer
We were hoping to have sister events across Canada this year, but were not able to get it together...it would be awesome if you ran a sister event next year! All the info you need is on the naked truth, www.nakedtruth.ca/forum
Sorry to link you away, but there's way too much to list. Read through the Embrace for PACE and Exotic Dancers for Cancer forums, that should get you started.
:D
Re: DONATE a show! Exotic Dancers for Cancer
Thanks Scarlett... im going to mention this to my club management. I doubt i'll still be dancing this time next year but I would still go for it. Im all for raising money for cancer no matter how its done. I've lost 5 relatives in the last 4 years to cancer.

This made news in our provincial newspaper. With all the bad that you find in news nowadays, it's nice to see there are people who are providing positive contributions to our society.

Exotic dancers raise money for the cure
BREAST CANCER: Did it once before but cash was rejected

Exotic Dancers for Cancer organizer Annie Temple started the fundraising event as a tribute to a friend and former dancer who died from breast cancer.
Running. Walking. Curling. Cooking. Golfing. Mountain climbing. Poker playing. Snowmobiling. Kayaking. Quilting. Shopping.
There's nothing you can't do these days to raise money for the cure.
Now a national breast-cancer charity is validating a new fundraising activity -- exotic dancing.
The Breast Cancer Society of Canada (not to be confused with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation) will accept a donation from an unusual Vancouver event this month: a fundraiser run by a group of B.C. exotic dancers as dedicated to fighting breast cancer as they are to fighting stereotypes about their work.
"The population of exotic dancers is predominantly female, which is the highest risk factor in breast cancer, and we're showing our breasts," said organizer and former dancer Annie Temple.
"We really wanted to challenge people's stereotypes and show them that as a community, we can be very socially conscious."
Temple put together the first fundraiser in 2004 as a benefit for friend and former dancer Jocelyne Sioui who, after a valiant fight with breast cancer and remission, was diagnosed as terminal.
That event, at the former Barnet Hotel in Port Moody, raised $3,000 to buy Sioui a scooter and make her last months easier. After she passed away, Temple vowed to start an annual event in her honour to support breast-cancer research.
The trouble was, she couldn't find a breast-cancer organization willing to accept the money unless it was given anonymously, which the dancers felt denied them dignity.
"One major organization we don't want to name just downright declined our offer without any explanation," said the White Rock resident and founder of The Naked Truth, a women-positive website for dancers.
The $3,000 from last year's event went instead to the Downtown Eastside hospice May's Place. It was a deserving charity, but unconnected to the breast-cancer cause.
So Temple wrote a touching personal letter to the society earlier this year, which changed all that.
Rany Xanthopoulo, executive director of the Society, said the charity was proud to accept the donation.
"Our bottom line was that any woman can get breast cancer. It doesn't matter what they do, what their profession is," she said.
The society (www.bcsc.ca) is a non-profit registered national charity that raised $800,000 last year exclusively for breast-cancer research, mainly through its Dress Down Day and Mother's Day Walk.
In 2005, about 21,600 Canadian women developed breast cancer and 5,300 died of the disease.
This year's Exotic Dancers for Cancer event will be held Feb. 26 at the Drake Showroom. Temple says it will be a women-friendly event that will include a silent auction, pole-dancing lessons, breast-cancer information and T-shirt sales. Dancers are donating proceeds and tips from shows. Half of the money goes to the society; the other to a fund for dancers with cancer.
"Most of the news surrounding the industry is usually negative," Temple said. "This really legitimizes what we're doing."

Thanks to the person who donated through the Naked Truth! (and for giving me 'feel-good' credit, lol)
Re: DONATE a show! Exotic Dancers for Cancer
AWESOME!
I'm on the other side of the planet and won't be there. Bless your hearts though! That is so cool :)

We raised over $6000 last night! It was amazing: an awesome, awesome event.

Re: DONATE a show! Exotic Dancers for Cancer
That is soooo wonderful of you and the club. Why not accept funds from those brave enough to share one of God's most beautiful creations! To help those who suffer the bad side of possessing those otherwise most wonderful gifts.
Re: DONATE a show! Exotic Dancers for Cancer
Scarlett, where can I get a tank top like yours?
