Antique dress & material pics & help.
Mum and I have these two items, both from the 1920s and in pretty good condition. They were handed down to us from an old friend of the family.
The dress is net but the pattern is all sequins and the piece of material we think may be a type of shawl. It's lilac coloured net with what we think is pure silver making up the pattern. It looks like the silver has been wrapped through the net in individual strips. The whole thing is about the size of a sarong.
Unfortunatly we can't seem to find anyone within Australia who knows or deals with antique clothing or material so I wondered if anyone here knows of anywhere / one or has seen anything like our dress and shawl - I've done alot of searching but not seen anything like our items anywhere :-[ ...

The photos do not do the shawl justice, but hopefully show enough detail to show what it is... all the shimmery bits are silver, the rest is net.

Re: Antique dress & material pics & help.
my mom has a shawl like that. i think it came from africa somewhere?
Re: Antique dress & material pics & help.
Cool - the pattern looks sort of north African I think. I wish I could find some more info though! I'm thinking of taking it to an antiques show next month.
Re: Antique dress & material pics & help.
she told me it was made of silver, and apparently the pieces were woven into the fabric and bitten into piece.

You can go to www.ebay.com and look under clothing, then vintage clothing, then women's clothing. It gives all the different eras. Just click on the 1920 era and browse through and see what you can find.
