breast augmentation ?s- dr. baker, dr. dewire, dr. nein
ok, ive been doing some research online with: implantinfo.com, justbreastimplants.com and implantforum.com. i have made myself look at the bad pictures on the fda website and looked at all the different types and brands of implants (i'm most likely going with mentors). i still want the boobs. not for more $ at work. i want them for me. i think i have the right attitude: i want them, i want them done RIGHT, i understand there's risks, if the risks are just too great to me, i can live without implants. most people are telling me 'no'. or 'oh, you're not big, but your fine'. i've wanted these for many years- over 5. i originally started dancing to get the boobs (kinda reverse there), but have been saving and worried about other things.
i have narrowed it down to:
* dr. baker in dothan, alabama (i know one girls he did and have researched his site, the 3 forums)- i am looking for more imput, so if you have seen him please share! the good and the bad! pm me if you must!
* dr. dewire in virginia. yes, it would be a hike for me, but well worth the trip. i know he's good.
* dr. nein in nashville, tn. he has done nice work, but i'm still not sure of him. i'm gonna go with my gut and stick with the previous two.
i'm planning on saving up enough $ for TWO surgeries before i even consider the first one. this is because i am worried about possible serious complications and would rather have that nice nest egg so i can get surgery right away. am i thinking this through enough?

i went with dr baker.
HE IS THE BEST... his work is the best. In my opinion.
The guy is wonderful, staff, flower's hospital...everything.
I am going back to him in the future if i need anything.

Re: breast augmentation ?s- dr. baker, dr. dewire, dr. nein
you sound like me about 6-8 months ago. I was researching like crazy and it was overwhelming. There are a lot of good surgeons out there and I wasn't really overly-impressed with anyone locally.
Well, I've heard good things about Dr. Baker. I ended up choosing Dr. Dewire for a couple of reasons.
Like you, I was worried about having something go wrong. Dr. DeWire is the guy that a lot of women go to to fix other surgeon's botched jobs. So I figure I'd cut out the middle man and get it done once. He won't tell you what you want to hear (i.e. "oh yeah, I can give you 800cc and you won't need a lift") if he doesn't believe it to be the case. he's a little bit on the expensive side, but within the range of what I was expecting to pay. Really, money was not a major concern and I would have paid much more. I think he's $6700 for a basic BA (for everything), but I paid $2000 more because I got a lift too. Trans-ax usually costs more because it requires more skill.
I also wanted trans-axillary placement since it's the only way to get totally under the muscle. He's very good at this technique. I wanted it because it gives that natural slope and internal support.
Plus I was really impressed with everything I read about him and I loved his website. And if you like Mentor implants, well, that's pretty much all he uses....mentor, round, salines
so now I'm 9 days post-op and very pleased with the result. They are the perfect size and shape.

tampa I didn't know you went to AL for you BA. I hope the pics will work eventually as I'd love to see how they came out. Maybe one day I'll get mine done...who knows. Wasn't yours fairly cheap?

Re: breast augmentation ?s- dr. baker, dr. dewire, dr. nein
thanks for the replies!
ok, a few more ?s:
* how accurate is the rice test as far as the WEIGHT of the implants?
* weird, but i hear stories of implants rupturing when flying because of the altitude. is this true? emily i know you flew to dewire.
* are you girls very limited from any physical activities since the surgery?
one issue i have with the last ? is that it may be hard to find someone to stay with my while i recover...

Re: breast augmentation ?s- dr. baker, dr. dewire, dr. nein
Dr. Baker is a conservative doctor, he wants to keep them as natural looking as possible. I've had 2 consults with him, both times I waited about 3 hours to see him! The first time he said I needed a lift, but I said I didn't want the scars. He said (I felt very rudely) that if I didn't get the lift, I would end up with Double Bubble (basically when your boob hangs off the implant). I went with a different surgeon who would do the surgery without the lift (he said I was borderline, another centimeter or two and he would have insisted on the lift) and I did NOT get Double Bubble! The second consult with Dr. Baker was for Mentor cohesive gel implants. I wanted them over the muscle due to the fact that I was having a lot of distortion (implant moving upward and taking on funny shapes when using pec muscles) problems with under the muscle implants. He told me that I didn't have enough tissue to put them over the muscle, that I would have a bad result, if I wanted them done that way to find another doctor. I did, again this doctor said I was borderline with the tissue, but I assumed the risks, and I LOVE my boobs. I get compliments on them ALL the time.
All that said, I have seen mostly good work out of Dr. Baker. Only 1 case where the girls breasts are too far apart and it looks like she has the double bubble thing going on. Her breast doesn't hang off of the implant, but it looks like her boob is sitting on top of the implant.

Re: breast augmentation ?s- dr. baker, dr. dewire, dr. nein
The rice test is only good for size not weight. A cc is a measurement of volume, not weight.
-
Re: breast augmentation ?s- dr. baker, dr. dewire, dr. nein
april- does the implant feel heavier than the rice? i know it will feel different than the rice.
what size are you now? what size pre-op? how many ccs?
i'm a 34b (almost c at that time of the month). i want to go to a d. most likely i'm gonna need 400ccs in each.

Re: breast augmentation ?s- dr. baker, dr. dewire, dr. nein
I know a lot of women fly to see Dewire for surgery (I drove), but that's not true about them rupturing. I asked him (because I was trying to figure out if I wanted to buy the enhanced warranty) and he said in his 15 years of doing breast surgery, he's only had about 20 ruptures. It's a bag of salt water and it's got room to expand (which is why most surgeons can and do overfill).
And I'm only 10 days post-op, so I'm limited right now. I can do basic stuff like put on makeup and drive, but I wanted pickles last night and damnit! I couldn't get the jar open. I can't reach too high either. That will change and I'll go back to the gym at around 14 days post-op.
It does sound like 400cc is about what you'll need. It took me from a full B to a full D. The basic formula is 100cc is a cup size for A and B and 200cc is a cup size for C, D, DD.

Re: breast augmentation ?s- dr. baker, dr. dewire, dr. nein
my breast size is 30ff lol
If i was like a 34 in the rib cage i would be more like a 34dd, but im really petite.
Yes, my surgery was inexpensive.
Dr baker told me at first i shouldn't go that large, I told him to get it closest to double d that he could and he came through!
He is VERY conservative and if he has ANY DOUBTS that the surgery may not come out the way you expect it, HE WILL TELL YOU UPFRONT! He is a bit of a perfectionist. I think that is why he said what he said to you April.
The guy is so high volume and its cheaper in Alabama, thats why it is a good price. But the quality does not suffer at all. He is pretty booked up now(i called for a consult for my eyes) and its like 4 months now.

he's good, but from what I understand he has a very long waiting list and a $500 consultation fee! And the BA alone is 10,000...which is a lot for nipple placement! I think this is one of those instances where you are paying for the label (so to speak), but I have never heard a bad thing about him.

Re: breast augmentation ?s- dr. baker, dr. dewire, dr. nein
One of the Managers at my club had her's doen by Dr. Dewire about a year ago and they look beautiful! She paid $5800 and said that included all the follow ups. Alot of girls in the area use Dewire and I haven't seen a bad job by him.
Emily, I wish I had known you came down to Richmond! I could have given you some TLC!

Re: breast augmentation ?s- dr. baker, dr. dewire, dr. nein
hehe, thanks...I wasn't sure how I'd feel. I wasn't really in the mood to be sociable, you know? I jsut stayed holed up in my hotel room. It was nice there...:)
I also had a friend there to take care of me and I pretty much slept all the time. I thought of you when I saw the strip club commercials come on at night. I figured you worked at one of them.
And I think his price went up $1000 since then your friend got hers for a straight-up BA.

Emily- Let me know if you come back down for a follow up!

Re: breast augmentation ?s- dr. baker, dr. dewire, dr. nein
Well, I've seen work as good as his that costs less. Plus, you have to evaluate your surgeon with other tools - researching his certifications, reading implantinfo.com to see what others say about him, finding out if he's had lawsuits, etc.
I will say that those are some of the most f**ked up looking complications I have ever seen.

I was just looking at Dr. Fisher's before and afters and I swear those are some of the best I think I've seen. Maybe he just lights them better in the pictures but they all look nice and it's amazing how well he fixed that fucked up one just pictured.

^ I agree. His after shots look SO good! They actually look natural. I want new Dr. Fisher boobies!!!!!!

it's true that Dr. DeWire is conservative with implant size, but he does a lot of repairs

I really don't know which is heavier. Some docs will let you stuff a sports bra with different sized implants to give you an idea of what size you want. Maybe that will help you with your weight questions. I've got an idea, let me try something......................
I'm back, I put 500 cc's in a measuring cup and it wouldn't even register as 1 pound on my digital bathroom scale (although it felt pretty heavy in my hands). A lot of those BA forums have Q&A pages that have formulas to calculate how much your implants weigh.
I started out a 34 B (same with me at that time of month). Had 330cc with my first BA, took me to a regular C. Now I have 480, and I'm a full D.
