a discourage wanna be dancer
Hi, Everybody! This is my first time posting. Let me tell you all about myself.Im from Memphis,Tn. I am currently a student at a community college. I'm a single mother of a 5 year old son.So it hard as hell trying to work a full time job plus overtime and go to school full time and raise a child who happens to have speech problems which means he needs extra attention and help to stay on the same level as the other children. It's sad and depressing at times when i can't do certain things for my self or my son or spend time with him because i have to go to work or school. :'( i go by the motto what don't kill you makes you stronger. It's times i feel like giving up and saying fuck the world.but i let my situations and problems motivated me. i aint finna let anything or anybody bring me down. I want a good life for me and my son. That's when i thought of dancing, because of the flexible schedule and make some decent money, that way i could give my son the special attention he needs and concentrate on school. I have been interested in dancing for a very long time. But was kinda scare. But i work at a strip club as a waitress, that when i seen it up close and personal that when i made my mind up.i was addicted.I wanted to become a dancer. My looks are what you call the nerdy, good girl look(glasses) with a sexy, bangin ass body like a sexy school teacher.I weight 160 and i am 5'9 in height.Im slim.I got nice breast and ass. But i don't know how to go about, getting into to the profession. The problem is I been going to different clubs all over memphis,tn. I sit in and talk to the dancers to get the info on the clubs and everything. Then when i approach the manager and show interest in becoming a dancer,I get the same thing, they are either have enough dancers or do i have experience which i do not. It's kinda got me discourage. But i got hired at a real hole in the wall.A small club, the dancers up in there look like they had gunshots and stab wounds. That's how jack up their bodies were.Real ghetto. There stage was so low and small. It look like the platforms the maniquins be on at the mall. my other problem is that i cannot dance to save my life, I've been practicing in the mirror.I even try to get my little cousins to teach me and they be laughin their ass off saying i look retard and call me stiff.. I don't see any results. But i don't have the skills. So my question is Do i need to go on and work at the hole in the wall since they are the only ones willing to hired me and to get experience. or try a different approach in getting hired at another club. and secondly any advice to perfect my dancing or there is no hope. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly

EXCUSE ME then. For having too much to say. I was just tryin to make
conversation and relating to what other's have wrote. Cause i know it's some
females out there that are going through similiar situations as me. I don't care
how long it was, Who are you to tell me?
Re: a discourage wanna be dancer

i've thought of that.
I haven't work there since last year. it's a lot of shit was going on with that
club. The dude that own the club i work at, was tryin to open a strip club in a
historial part of memphis. so there was a lot of protesting going on. So the police
use to come in the club and kind of harass the custys, by putting flashlights in
their faces and questioning them.So there was a lost of business. Plus another
club, he own got busted for prostitution and the city closed it down, saying it was
a nusiance to the city. But i saw on the news where it was suppose to be
opening back up but under new rules.

Don't have kids teach you how to dance. If you've been a waitress first hand, then you should have up close observation. Go around to different clubs in Memphis. I'm sure there are more out there than the 1 hole in the wall club you speak of. Weigh your options. If you feel you deserve better, then go for the Gold ;)
Re: a discourage wanna be dancer
Maybe you should 'change' your look when you go in for a job. Lots of makeup and curled hair.. dress sexy. A option is to get experience at the crappy place... learn to dance (2-3 months) then go for the better place.
I think dancing is a great job for women who are students and moms.
Itll be a challenge balancing a night job with school and a school aged child at first but Im sure it will all fall into place after a few weeks.
Good luck hun!
Re: a discourage wanna be dancer
Keep your hole-in-the-wall job while learning the ropes. You said nothing about it being a bad palce to work or that you weren't making any money or anything, so I have to guess that it is paying the bills.
I have danced at some of the top clubs in the west, and it isn't all it is cracked up to be. Just because a club is famous, does not mean that it is more fun to dance there, or that the customers are nicer or anything. Generally just as many extras go on in "gown" clubs as happens in divey neighborhood type places.
As far as stage dancing... Don't try so hard. Strut and pose on stage. Move slowly from one pose to another. Pretend you are a model working a runway. If you have no rythm this is the best way to look nice on stage.

Yup, there are 2 girls at my club who do this on stage. They make just as much (if not more sometimes) than the girls who bust a sweat on stage.
Re: a discourage wanna be dancer
^^That's so true. The strut-and-pose girls make a more money at every club I've ever worked at.
I worked at a hole in the wall club at first for about a month or so. It helped me get the hang of everything. I use that club as my transition club now.
Re: a discourage wanna be dancer
yes definetly the slower you move the better
Re: a discourage wanna be dancer
Yep and make nice eye contact with the customers while you are on stage... it will work wonders.
Re: a discourage wanna be dancer
although let me ad... do not get discouraged when the guy looks away if u look at him.... i used to get very intimidated when that happened... but dont be bc they could be nervous. Just making casual sexy eye contact with customers will work though and then you can usually feel out the crowd to see who you should target.
Re: a discourage wanna be dancer
I had tot start at the lower end club too... at least then Iw as one of the prettiest girls, if not the prettiest.
I have a kid and I am a student too. I haven't gone back yet but am going to try to audtion later this week. I wish you the best!
