newbie hired at scores last week!
hey ladies,
I wanna introduce myself. I'm Georgia and I just started dancincing.......last Friday!! I was hired at Scores, in NYC, which I guess is a good thing.
I went in last week to interview as a waitress. I had been thinking about dancing, but thought I might just work for a month or two serving, or bartending before catching my groove for dancing. I have been to a few clubs before, and had heard that Scores has this monumental reputation as "the shit" club in NYC.
Seeing as though I have no previous experience dancing, God knows what gave me the ego to think I would be hired by them.
I spent all day getting ready...yall know the routine, duh. I get there and fill out an application. The guy who interviews me has this weird name and I just kinda smile and nod...."shit I hope I don't have to repeat his name" I think to myself........ He tells me they would hire me blah blah I was amped. he then asks me if I am at all interested in dancing. I tell him I've been thinking about it. He keeps teling me I woudl be great, that I could really bank there if I wanted to .......he gets me all enthused and pumped, hell yeah I think, I can totally do this!!!
He tells me to show him how I dance. I do and he gives me pointers. he actually gets up and starts dancing with me. , ......he tells me I look great and asks if I wanna audition right then. hell no, i havent shaved in like a week, i am totally pale I don;t have a gown and I'm wearing one of the ugliest things in my whole catelog of thongs!!!!
I tell him these thinsg and hes liek oh we dont care and he gets the house mom and the manager and they give me a little pep chat .They told me to go up on the side stage when i'm ready. I just bounded up there and did a 30 second dance. The house mom tells me I'm hired and to come on Friday............
Friday arrives....by this point I have become totally schizo with my internal arguments ....I don't know if I wanna do it anymore.
I get there and get ready. The girls are nice and totally hot. I was surprised. The club was actually, in my opinion, physically a let down. Overrrated. But the dancers were beautiful. More than 3/4 of the girls looked more model than exotic dancer hot. Most of the girls had c cups, natural, and were tall and skinny.
When i danced my first set, i was nervous. It wasn;t that bad. I have raging stage fright, and it was OK because I was so in zone that I don;t remember thinking I will never do this again!!! the lap dances were horrifying though!!!! I guess it comes in time! full props to all of yall!!! you gals have more self pride, confidence and FLAVOR than any other women I know!!!! * high fives
Anyway, by the end of the night I made bank.
But, I didn't really feel to amped to go back to do it again. I loved the atmosphere, but I didn't feel the spark for competition, which is what Scores is all about. I told the house mom I wasn't sure if dancing was for me. Can I go back to my initial hire as a waitress, get more used to everything, observe more and then dance when I want to again........she said sure. to call the weird named guy tomorrow to ask about the uniform and whatever.
So I did the next day....and surprise.....surprise......he said they were booked with waitresses. He started asking me about why I didnt like dancing and why I wont do it for them again.....making me feel like I had completely failed after a night of pushing myself to emotional and physical limits I am more proud of than anything! He keeps talking to me about it. Asking questions like "well if you won;t dance then how will you feel comfortable serving....".......i'm like are you serious.........do you not see the collosal difference between lap dacning and serving drinks..........I told him I had to go but to call me if they want me. Thanks for giving me the opportunity...blah blah.......
My conclusions have been.........
I am proud of myself for trying. I was curious. I am not saying I felt duped to go into dancing, cuz hell, the only person in charge of my actions is myself. I love it. I just didn't love it my first time. Which is porbably totally regular. I woudl like to maybe dance a night or two at a smaller club. The house fees at Scores were so intimidating I couldn;t stop calculating the money I had earned...i spent the whole night freaking myself out and doing math, instead of relaxing and learning. I am going to some other large clubs, to try and waitress. While growing as a dancer at a place I feel more comfprtable at. I respect yall so much, and feel like just doing this once is a lesson in self value. I cannot wait to challenge myself further in world of burlesque and exotic dancing.
yours for the moment, Georgia!!!!!
thanks yall who actually read this giant manifesto - essay of a gal's first night in the spotlight!
Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
thats awesome... good for you!!!! im actually from cleveland are in ohio and i met a girl who used to work for scores in nyc ... she used to bank... and when i say bank, i mean bank... i would stay there and continue to get used to the atmosphere of the place.. you'll get used to how things are operated there in no time... its like why go down to a smaller establishment when you're already at the top.. some girls would die to be able to work there but they're not what managment are looking for... you obviously have something unique about you or else they would have turned you away.... my advice... don't leave.. be patient and it will get easier.. good luck making lots of money!!!!
Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
thanks for the advice!!! I will give it another try, I had planned on it anyway. Things always get easier when you give yourself time to grow.....i think, and hope!
Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
Aw thats great... it really does give one a sense of self accomplishment. I am not sure what Scores policy is on working at other places... but maybe you could still dance there 2 or 3 nights a week and then try waitressing at another club? This can give you good experiance in both areas and something to compare/see what you like better.
Anyway, congrats on the experiance!
Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
Why not work the quiet days. I used to work early in the week many moons ago when I was a newbie. I found the club a lot less intimidating to work on a Monday night than a Friday. I mean I had NO competitive spirit. The other new girls ran rings around me. I was still intimidated by being in New York much less Scores. It'll get better.:)
Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
optimistic optimist....thanks for the supportive words....I work tonight.....wish me luck!!!!!
Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
Good! Just in case you didn't see it, there's a thread about Scores' back tax woes. Please keep you records in order. Make allies where you can, slowly and cautiously. You and your workmates can approach groups together. They like that.
Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
goodluck and is your stage name ga? that used to be what I went by when I danced
Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
You are awesome for getting up there and giving yourself a shot. I'm sure how you felt your first night was how Jenna Jameson felt the first time she took her clothes off. No one gets it perfect the first time and it is scary, but if you relax and take your time and keep your head on straight I am sure you will do great. Let us know how the return goes. Like someone up there said - no sense leaving the top to start at the bottom. It's like - the bottom floor of a 100 story building is comfortable and safe and relative...the top floor is scary as shit...but people are still waiting in line for the elevator. Yeah that made no sense but you get it. Anyway, congrats girl!
Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
Aww, Scores Schmores...that place is OVERRATED! BIG TIME!! the housefees are so damn high, they over book dancers and the management is horrible. you could work at penthouse or hustler and make the same money and pay less to work. but then again thise clubs over book dancers too...
Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
Scores' reputation has gone by the wayside - PEC has taken its place a long time ago. Someone just needs to tell Howard Stern the news LOL
In Scores' heyday, I doubt they would've recruited a girl in that way because they would've had way too many topnotch strippers beating down the doors to work there. Now, I think they've lost some of their marketshare to PEC and probably have started doing what other clubs have - get as many girls as possible to pay the housefee in order to keep their income going ::) When a club starts losing business and girls, they start recruiting as many girls as possible because you are just another form of income - essentially a paying customer. Regrettably, it's easier to recruit new strippers than it is to recruit new customers.
Don't let any of this ruin your mood though! It's still cool to be hired at Scores - recruited even! Just take it with a grain of salt and keep in mind you can probably make same or more money elsewhere with less hassle. Don't let the Scores people sell you on the notion that it's the end-all be-all place to work. It is always a good idea to shop around clubs to find the one that suits you best.
Now, go make that money!

It's amazing what some 'paid endorsement' and a shitload of 'comps' can do, isn't it ! However, no amount of positive publicity can undo the damage to Scores rep caused by the six figure credit card overcharge news stories, the tax evasion charges in the news etc.
PEC has successfully latched onto the 'upper crust' Manhattan customer base which was formerly the exclusive province of Scores. From where I'm sitting, the only thing that the Scores of today has in common with the Scores of the 'golden years' is the outrageous stage fees !

Optimist makes an extremely important point. Because of all of the 'trouble' that Scores has had this past year over bogus credit card charges, tax evasion etc. it's EXTREMELY probable that the IRS and whoever else is involved in the Scores investigation is also going to 'stumble across' the names, addresses and social security number on Scores' dancers' employment applications. This means it is also EXTREMELY probable that any dancers working at Scores will have their past several years worth of financial / tax history reviewed by IRS computers - followed by an audit and huge bills for back taxes if any major 'inconsistencies' are found (i.e. the dancer happens to have purchased new $50k car but only declared $20k in taxable income last year - the dancer has a $10,000 bank balance but no tax returns were filed in past years to show where the $10k came from - the dancer averages $2000 a month in credit card charges but declared less than $24,000 in income last year with which to make the credit card payments etc).
This in fact may be the reason that Scores is now 'recruiting' new dancers !!! I would speculate that a good number of dancers chose to leave Scores rather than have their past financial / tax records (or lack thereof) attract extra attention.
Remember, in New York City, typical full time dancers in top notch clubs are legally responsible for paying 15% of their gross earnings in self-employment tax, plus another 25% of their gross earnings in federal income tax, plus another 7% of their earnings in NY State income tax, plus another 3% of their earnings in NY City income tax = a 50% effective tax rate unless she has some major tax deductions available (home ownership, dependents etc.) The NY City income tax people are actually the most agressive of the bunch, and have been known to follow 'high earners' i.e. pro sports players, broadway performers, all the way back to their home states to collect NY City income tax for the few days income that they actually earned working in NY City ! Getting their hands on a list of dancers names, addresses, and social security numbers who are known to have worked in a 'top earning club' in NY City must have been like waving a red cape in front of a bull ! Of course, if the NY City tax people do happen to turn up anything 'interesting', they have a 'hot line' direct to the NY State tax dept and the IRS (and through the IRS to other states as well) - and the NY City tax people won't hesitate to ask for additional financial info and 'help' to investigate further (which the IRS and state tax dept's will gladly provide, smelling the opportunity of collecting additional federal and state income taxes themselves).

Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
Comparatively Scores has always been busier than PEC when I've been there (been at both quite a few times). I've heard far less substantiated rumours of prostitution in the VIP rooms at Scores than at PEC as well.
The myth of PEC is just that - a myth - perpetuated by dancers and staff on this site. It's a lovely establishment decor-wise; there's no doubt about that. But quite frankly I think that the Flash has the most beautiful dancers in New York City.
I will be taking Katrine to PEC next Friday and you all know she tells it like it is (and is one of the least catty and most-supportive-of-the-sisters gals I've ever had the pleasure of knowing) so we'll settle it once and for all.

The club's already changed a lot since I stopped working there a year and a half ago, but Friday generally isn't the best night to make an assesment of what the club is like. The girls who fancy themselves the "top" or "hottest" dancers don't work weekend nights.
There are more "luxury" clubs in NYC now and more dancers, so standards aren't what they used to be. You see a lot of dancers that you know wouldn't have made the cut at a "top" NYC club working nowadays.
Good luck at Scores. I hope your paychecks don't bounce.
Re: newbie hired at scores last week!
For the type of clientele PEC seems to have a niche market for - young financier types who like to "party" and are "friends" with management - I think Friday night is a perfect night to go. The only thing that would make it an off-time is that it's still a bit early in the season.
It's really too bad that club staff here are almost 100% outer-borough Noo Yawk goons with a bare minimum of education. In this respect, PEC is no different from any other clubs in the area. If only club managers had the business insight not to hire their cousins and homeboys - and hired those with no discernable regional accents, gave them suits that are a proper size, and instructed them in customer service and manners, and proper hairstyling (less hairgel please) I think it would go a long way to making out-of-town businessmen much more at ease and comfortable spending money.
Remember the Lee Hotti phenomenon? Those boys will be working at Scores and PEC in five years. I guarantee it ;D
