Close-Ups Of The Ferrari Crash.
February 21 in Malibu around 6am a Ferrari Enzo was virtually destroyed on Pacific Coast Highway near Decker Canyon. About 7am as I drove north on PCH to work on location I looked up ahead and spotted 6 news helicopters hovering. Not a good sign. As I approached the accident scene a line of cars were stopped on both sides of the highway, a flipped power pole suspended in mid-air off to the right and scattered pieces of a $1 million dollar Ferrari strewn over 100 yards or more.
I happened to have my digital camera with me, so I snapped these photos as I walked to the production van (in the distance, photo #1) which shuttled us to our location.

Rare Ferrari Destroyed in Malibu Crash
By Associated Press
MALIBU, Calif. -- Authorities are investigating the circumstances behind a spectacular crash on Pacific Coast Highway that destroyed a rare Ferrari Enzo estimated to be worth more than $1 million.
The red Ferrari was going at least 100 mph when the driver lost control and struck a power pole, investigators said. The car -- one of only 400 made -- shattered, with its engine coming to rest on the highway and its wreckage scattered.
Sheriff's investigators identified the owner as Stefan Ericksson, 44, of Bel Air, who escaped the wreck with only a cut lip.
"For $1 million, you get a very good passenger-safety system, and apparently in this case it did work," said Sgt. Philip Brooks of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities said Ericksson told them he was a passenger and the driver was a German acquaintance he knew only as Dietrich, who he said ran into the nearby hills. A three-hour search failed to turn up anyone, and officials said they were skeptical of the account. Only the driver's side air bag deployed, Brooks said.
"He destroyed one of the finest cars on earth, maybe the finest," said Ferrari owner Chris Banning, a Beverly Hills writer who is finishing a book on the cult of sports car racing along winding Mulholland Drive.
"It's like taking a Van Gogh painting and burning it."

Ugh. That was some crash.
Re: Close-Ups Of The Ferrari Crash.
those pictures hurt the deepest part of my soul.
Re: Close-Ups Of The Ferrari Crash.
The one story said only one air bag came out, but I see two in the pics! This is why rich people should give me all their money, they are to stupid to own a car that goes this fast!
Re: Close-Ups Of The Ferrari Crash.
It is for this reason why I after two weeks of owning my red bullet that I took it out to the speedway and had someone teach me a bit about driving it. Friggin' morons.
As for the airbag(s) Big Daddy, sometimes if only one airbag deploys in an accident, the police will detonate the second one for safety reasons. This is why the photo may show the second one deployed but only one went off from the accident itself.
Re: Close-Ups Of The Ferrari Crash.
LOL,I knew the men of SW would appreciate this thread.
Re: Close-Ups Of The Ferrari Crash.
that is so sad :( Amazingly they lived though. At least Ferraris are built to protect the occupants I guess.
Re: Close-Ups Of The Ferrari Crash.
That guy walked away from that with only a bloody nose. Last I heard they determined his speed at impact around 167 mph.
If you take the time to read the stuff it's really interesting, and still has drama continuing to this day. www.wreckedexotics.com has a bunch of the ongoing story. They quoted a Ferrari exec. saying "the value of the other 398 Enzos just went up" haha

Re: Close-Ups Of The Ferrari Crash.
I bet.If someone can walk away from such a high speed impact virtually unscathed,I do not doubt at all the value of the other cars would go up quite significantly.
Re: Close-Ups Of The Ferrari Crash.
For a mill, I'd rather have the bugatti veryon.
Re: Close-Ups Of The Ferrari Crash.
Brand new I think they were around 699,000.00
Only 399 sold
Resale estimate today is around 1.4 mil. (prolly a tad more since there are now only 398...)
Not a bad investment, that you could actually have some fun with while you owned it
I think you had to be a preferred Ferrari owner and get invited to purchase one in the first place back when they were available, maybe 2004-ish?? I dunno
I still can't believe that guy ate shit at 167, split his car completely in half, and walked away with only a bloody nose, probably only from the airbag lol, he got so freakin' lucky

You either watch Top Gear or you should watch Top Gear :)
Personally, I've hit a low point when it comes to Ferraris. They are GREAT to drive, but they just break down too often. When they do break down, it is somewhat difficult to get parts and repairs. Also, the dealerships are now snobbier than ever. To get a F430 from the factory, you have to be on a dealerships list of customers in "good standing". At the So Cal dealerships, that means you have to have "scratched the dealers" back in some way in the past. What that means is at a minimum you have to have purchased a pre-owned Ferrari from them in the past at an inflated price. It's like, you go into the dealership and buy a F355 for $90k instead of the $70k that it is worth. Then the dealership says, "oh, would you like to be on the list to get a new F430 from the factory?" Once you're "in", you are sitting pretty for good as long as you don't piss someone off. Don't get me wrong, I still LOVE Ferraris. I still drool over my bro-in-law's F360. But, the whole thing seems ridiculous to me.
Right now, I just love my Porsche 996. I know it's not as exotic as a Ferrari is because there are so many Porsche rolling around Los Angeles, but that in a way is appealing to me as well. It is just a great car to drive. It is reasonably reliable, it is pretty quick, and I can drive it daily without worrying about mechanical disasters. When something does break, it is easy to find a dealership. Parts are not difficult to get. It only needs to get serviced every 15,000 miles. The all wheel drive system is great...... I haven't tracked cars in a few years, and my driving skills are rusty. The AWD gives me a little safety net.... the car understeers slightly at the limit, but since the AWD has a 95% rear bias, I can still make the rear end come around with the gas pedal. Above all, when I walked into the dealership to buy the car, I didn't have to kiss anyone's ass. I just picked the car I wanted, paid for it, and drove it home. No stupid games.

I stopped watching the US version of the show on Discovery, because the editing is horrible and they really cut up and ruined the flow of the original episodes. I still download the BBC2 versions when they air on Sundays. The Enzo episode was great, but I just loved it when Jeremy got to try out the Bugatti Veyron. I'm a big fan of Audi and divisions of Audi such as Bugatti, Lamborghini, and Bentley. The Veyron is just gorgeous. I just wish they had allowed the Stig to try it out on the track.
