"The Term of endearment -"Ol lady"
The Term "Ol Lady" is a term of affection term that is used freiquenty in Appalicaia (My Family is from Western Maryland up near Cumberland MD).
It is a sign of respect since the man is indicating that he defers and respects the decians(Damn no spell check0 of his wife or his "Ol Lady" because in my culture(The montain culture) being older is eqauted with being wiser. The Term " Ol Lady" also means that that person in a long term relationship and will bear and has born it out no matter what even if the "Ol lady" can be a bitch at times he loves her no matter what. Also chances are that The "Ol Lady" will out live the man so he better be nice or his body will be dumped in the Potamac River or some coal mine and wont get a proper funeral. The term " Ol lady" is also used in Biker Culture and means the same thing... The "Ol Lady" also means the
materachical nature of the family where the woman is the head of household and the "Ol man" just turns over his ceck when he walks in the door...

There are actually women out there that use the term "ol man" when describing their SO's.It just sounds kind trailer park-ish to me.
Re: "The Term of endearment -"Ol lady"
My regular calls his wife "ol' lady" and trust me there is no forms of endearment when he says it hahaha.

Weird that... when I was growing up in NY state, your Old Man was your dad. Now fast forward 20 years and stick me in Florida and Old Man is your boyfriend or husband.
Oh the inbreeding jokes I could come up with...
