12 CD's for the price of 1
I've always wanted to do this. I know it's a scam, I remember my older sister used to get these CD's when she was in high school. At the same time, I do want to build a CD collection.
One thing I have noticed though. They always say that you have to buy 1 CD in one years time, and like the first 7 CD's are free (plus the price of s&h) Well can someone tell me, how much is the shipping/handling on this thing??

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
It's usually a shipping handling charge per disc, but I honestly dont know how much. Also keep in mind that their "normal club prices" for cd's are like 18.99, plus s/h, so it's like 25 bucks for one disc. Have you checked out www.yourmusic.com ? There have been a couple of posts about it. That's pretty spiffy. Also, with the "12 for 1" clubs, it ends up being not too bad, moneywise, but you have to be on the ball and cancel that thing right away after you buy whatever the minimum is or they keep sending you crap you dont want.

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
No prob...I posted about it in Music Mix. I've already ordered from them. Free shipping, and you get them in about a week to 10 days. It's owned by BMG, they of the "12 for 1" offers. I might go order a few more now, actually. Ha, it sounds like I work for them.

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
I buy most of my CDs in pawn shops, of which there is a plethora in this town--one small advantage of living here, lol...
I get them for 1-5$. If you stop in once in a while at the good ones, you can clean up--I have walked out with huge stacks of great CDs for 50$, including brand new stuff--though that's harder to find. You do have to check them for condition in some of the shops, though.
This way I can easily afford to buy whatever I want that is new.
Haven't tried the 12 for 1 deal, but I have had bad luck with remembering to cancel it on similar offers, so I avoid them.

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
I used to be all about Pawn Shops, too. In the last few years, the quality has gone way down, at least around me. They take whatever someone brings in, and theyre scratched all to hell. Plus theyre charging roughly the same 5.99 price, too. Used shops that are reputable are still pretty good for out-of-print or harder to find stuff, with the occasional new copy of something that someone bought and didnt like. It's too much of a shell game for me anymore. Another good place to grab some lesser-known stuff is by typing in "1 cent cd" on ebay, all sorts of goodies on there. Just watch that you dont get raped on shipping.
Rhia, should this be in Music Mix?

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
Yeah, I've signed up for the 12for1 deals. The S&H is like $30 for your free CD's, and $2 or so for each one that you buy.

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
wow, people still buy CDs? :)

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
Yes, Emily, there is a Santa Claus. SOME of us still buy actual records, too. You know... those weird black circular thingees?

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
^^^ Yea, I just want like a wall with like tons of CD's. I dunno.. Sometimes it's just not the same downloading music and hearing "this is that new HOT SHI.." from some random DJ in the background :-\

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
CK, www.half.com is also great for finding cheap CDs, some new, some used. I get the majority of my school textbooks and leisure books, and DVDs from there as well.

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
Some "record" stores have 'used' CDs for sale at half off etc. Some they have to polish the bottom sides of them, and sometimes the jewel cases are a bit maarred up, but the inserts were good and the CD's played fine. You can always replace the jewel cases and some people throw them out.
I've bought many of those, and they were all in fine condition which I was surprised about at first. Generally they had a good selection unless I was looking for the newest ones; I wasn't. Further they had a better selection than most of the new CD stores.

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
Less pawn shops are buying (and thus selling) CDs now, it is true, but there are so many around here you can still get a lot.
It's probably the area's second largest industry, lol...

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
CK, that whole DJ Clue thing you mentioned drives me insane. HOT SHIT! YEAH! DESERT STORM! UNGH! the whole way thru what otherwise would be a playable song....urgh it makes me mental.
Half.com ain't bad, either, as was mentioned. I get more books than cd's from that site though. I have the "wall of cd's" thing going on. And the wall of books, and records, etc. It's fun.

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
Just so you know, those $5.99 CD's do not count towards your "membership commitment". You must buy the FULL Price CD in order to fulfill the "contract". Meaning that you will have to pay $19 + $5 for s/h. BTW...the s/h fees are PER CD. Not total, so if you bought $19 full price CD, and then 10 $5 CD, you would pay $69 for CD's and around $50 for s/h.
I guess you could save some money...but I thought it was always a rip-off. Like the Ebay sellers who advertise their stuff for $2 and then charge $10.95 for s/h.

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
I did one of those 12 cd's for price of 1 deals about 10 years ago and was quite pleased. I got my cd's , bought the one or two at full price and then cancled my membership in that music club.
These days I buy my CD's online ( Ebay ect. ) in brand new condition. After that I burn myself a copy and then re-sell the original for as close to full price as possible.

I recently joined Columbia House's DVD club.

That is too funny.I remember when we called artists' new releases "albums".Now,the kids call them "CD's" and look at you funny when you say "album".

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
VenusGoddess: This yourmusic.com thing IS BMG, but the $5.99 cd's are just that. $5.99. S/h is free. It's not actually part of the "12 for one" dealy thing. You have to sign up and put a cd in your "music que" to be sent once a month, but that one is 5.99 too. I honestly didn't find anything in the readme file about how long the committment is, but there are no full price 25 bucks cd's in this version. I think it's mainly because they dont have like the brand brand new stuff, they get it a couple of months later. But that's fine with me.
The other funny thing about vinyl now, is that it's often more $$$ than buying the cd version to get the album on vinyl. Which just makes no sense. New releases, that is.

Re: 12 CD's for the price of 1
I did the club deal maybe 15yrs ago it was okay but there are so many more resources now and I think you can find better deals . BMG seems to be tied to a lot of music these days .
I have a small pile of 78 records and an actual phonogragh that plays them . My first two albums I bought were ZZ Top fandango and Tres Hombres . I owned a few 8 tracks as well .

LOL...My dad still has a working 8 track player (and a ton of working 8 tracks). Everyone that had 8 tracks gave them all to him...I think he's one of the few that still has one of those things! :P
