advice on a "bikini show"?
I'm going to be doing a bikini show this Friday night. A friend of mine set it up with the owner of a Tejano club. We'll each be dancing three songs for a base pay of $75 and whatever tips we can make from the crowd. We'll each be assigned a body guard, just in case, but my friend has done similar shows at this club before, and says the crowd is quite nice. It's mixed, men and women, and there will be a male stripper performing, in addition to the two of us.
We'll be stripping to bikini tops and full bottoms, no less. The stage has poles, and my friend says she does pole tricks about half the time and spends the rest of the time interacting with the audience. The performance is more burlesque than strip-tease, it sounds like. I've been told to avoid any moves that are too raunchy, since there are women in the audience who might be turned off. It's this part that I need advice on. I've never done anything but slide my garter down and let the customer put in a dollar, but according to my friend, teasing the audience is a big part of the show. She pulls guys' ties, makes them light her cigarette, and so on. Sounds cool, only I have no idea what to do. Anybody have any cool moves for interacting with customers that don't involve rubbing my ass on their faces?
Another thing that's different, is I'm apparently supposed to be in character for the show. My friend is small and blond, and will be wearing all-white. For contrast, she asked me to wear black, and be the "bad girl" stripper. This isn't my normal work person at all, so while it sounds fun, I have no idea what to do. Stomp around and scowl at people?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
Re: advice on a "bikini show"?
One thing I once saw a dancer do on stage that I thought was cool and might steal: I used to work with a dancer who regularly wore schoolgirl outfits and had sort of a "brat" persona. She gave a really good stage show with lots of personality. One thing she used to do when customers went up to stage to tip her was to grab their dollar, throw it over her shoulder and hold out her hand for another dollar. Might sound weird, but she did it with a grin, and it was very cute. Guys loved it.
Just an example of the kind of audience interaction I'm thinking about.

i used to make 1/2 my living doing burlesque performances. using the pole when you're on stage is a good idea. try to focus on the show aspect and not so much on blatent sexuality. think "pin-up". this is going to sound weird, but you know that scene in roger rabbit when jessica rabbit goes out into the crowd? think of that. it's portrayed in many older movies as well. moulin rouge would be a good example of crowd interaction too. you just want to be flirtatious and playfull. a good smirk and a nice walk will go a long way. you don't have to be over the top showy about it, the things i mentioned were just examples to go by. you can tame it down or turn it up depending on the crowd. as far as being the "bad girl in black". it's more about owning the room when you're up there in a sophisticated, dominate way, rather than being too sub-genre-ish like "the goth girl" or "the punk girl". that type of persona usually only works for girls who live it in their normal life. when you portray a "bad girl" you don't have to look angry or sad. confidence and posture are key.
i hope any of that was helpfull, lol. it was hard to explain.
Re: advice on a "bikini show"?
hmmm. i work at a bikini club, we do two songs on stage each set. we pretty much do the same stuff as at a topless club. it is kind of hard when you are used to taking more off, if feels like you don't know what to do with yourself.
the only thing i can think of as far as "clean" audience interaction is sometimes girls take off the guys hat and put it on...anytime i've done this, the hat was sweaty and it was gross. lol also if a guy is wearing a hat b/c he doesn't want his bald spot to show, he might not like it.
i like the thing about throwing the dollar over your shoulder and holding hand out for another one, if you were doing a "bitch-persona" type thing.

Thanks. Maybe I should rent Moulin Rouge. And what the hell, I'll rent Who Framed Roger Rabbit, for old time's sake.
Do you have any specific examples of moves that you've done, or seen done?
I'm also not sure what kind of music is going to work for a "bad girl" ( ::) ) in a Tejano bar. I don't think I can dance to Tejano music. But a lot of the Hispanic guys I've danced for at my club seem to like older metal. Any ideas?
Re: advice on a "bikini show"?
what about that song "only after dark" from the dusk till dawn soundtrack? i dance to it often. actually, penelope cruiz does a strip tease to it in the movie. i'm not sure if it would fit in there, but it might work. it's not heavy but it's slow and kind of evlish seductive. blood letting by concreate blonde is good too, and pussy liqour by rob zombie. those tend to go over well with crowds and they're easy to dance too, but again i'm not sure if they fit in that kind of environment. i'll post more when i think of them. btw, when i saw they're easy to dance to, i'm not suggesting that you can't dance to harder stuff. i'm just saying that if you're not used to that type of music, those are good songs to go with. also, they're "different" without being "too weird" for crowds, i think.
Re: advice on a "bikini show"?
Salma Hayek, not Penelope Cruz
