"iPods banned in Sydney school for breeding 'social isolation'"
This info is about a year old, but still relevant
http://www.engadget.com/2005/03/22/i...ial-isolation/
and one other link

I do use my mp3 player to be somewhat "antisocial." at times. Especially after going to a movie last summer, and then being asked for money no less than seven times while walking all of two blocks after the movie. At the time, I didn't carry my mp3 player all the time. Now, I don't have to listen to the [email protected]#$%^& ads in the theaters anymore as well! Although I do watch the trailers for the new movies.
So how about the first link above? Do mp3 players "breed social isolation"...or...? Sometimes, I want to be "socially isolated," as I've indicated here.
Re: "iPods banned in Sydney school for breeding 'social isolation'"
Thing is I know lots of kids that take them to school because they are socialy isolated in the first place. The popular lids make them feel isolated, but with the Ipod, it feels like they are in controll of their isolation. If anything it keeps them out of embarassing situations.

Having earbuds or a cell phone glued to your ear does breed social isolation, imo. I try not to talk on the phone much while in public just because I like to appear approachable. :)
