Going out VS Going to work
I feel like a total dumbass :-[ I rarely call off work, and when I do, management lets me slide cause I'm a good worker. Other girls just get charged $75 if they dont' come in. (that's a whole nother story though)
So, while I was getting my hair done yesterday, my hairdresser (gay) told me that there was going to be this slamming party. So I spent 4hr (long time I know lol) getting my hair done, and thinking about this party. So I told her I was down to go.
Due to school, I only work 2x per week, picking up a Sat if I really need the money. I count on my weekends to make money. So make a long story short, I go home, get ready to hit the club (we were leaving at 11pm) and then find out that since the people throwin the party didn't pass out flyers, NO ONE was there! It was like a freaking ghost town. So now I'm not at a party, and i'm not at work. I was sooooo depressed.
I rarely ever treat myself to anything, and the one time I decide to, this happens.
Have any of you ever choose clubbing over going to work?
Re: Going out VS Going to work
Ooh ouch. Sorry the party was a flop. Look at it this way, if you had been responsible and gone to work, you would have been thinking about the slamming party you were missing...therefore possibly not making much money anyway. I don't know, just trying to put a positive spin on it for you. :)
Re: Going out VS Going to work
Sorry that happened. That sucks bigtime.
However, to answer your Q, it depends; if I've scheduled work, I have never decided to bum it in short notice in order to go and party. If I want to go party, I generally plan it a week in advance (mainly if it's for a birthday, leaving-do, housewarming, concert, etc) before I put myself on the work rota. That way, I don't feel I'm compromising either. I rarely work weekends nowadays as most of the money where I am is weekday, so if a weekend party happens to be short notice, it generally doesn't pose too much of a problem.
In an awkward turn of events once, the opposite happened. I was booked in to work and the owner, after I showed up, told me to leave as there were too many girls (apparently, they overbooked). We were well and truly annoyed as we felt we were missing out on good £££ so me and another dancer who was also told to leave went on an impromptu party (well, we were already made-up!) which turned into an absolutely amazing night. It turned out that apparently, the girls who were working that night made next to nothing to it was a fortunate experience for my friend and I.
Re: Going out VS Going to work
haha, i agree with lyssa actually. sometime i work so hard (not these days actually, i've become so lazy) that i force myself to take a night of. whether i am having fun or not i think the whole night ''why am i not at work! ohh i bet everyone is making so much money without me AAAUUUGHH." im trying to balance my schedule and take time off when i have something fun (event or spending time with a friend) that will not fail. and sometimes, its just good to have a night off with no plans! i bet when you return to work you will work twice as hard.
Re: Going out VS Going to work
I did that on my frriends b-day last week

Yes. After months of being harshly criticized by some acquaintances about me being so greedy and workaholic for always working on weekends, I agreed to go clubbing.
They wouldn't leave the house until midnight, and around here, most clubs close at 2:00 am (and no after-party) :medusa:
Re: Going out VS Going to work
I always go to known to pop off clubs if I take off. I never waste my time on flyer parties or house parties. I used to do it a lot now I work more play less... at least until I'm done with beauty school. Try going to a known club next time.... U know U can get in :-)

See, that's the problem it's a gay/lesbian event. There are NO gay/lesbian clubs in Cincinnati. There are a few bars, but this was actually going to have a clublike vibe to it. I heard the person in charge tries to hold parties like this once per month (and they are usually successful) so maybe next time :-[
Re: Going out VS Going to work
I used to be really bad with saying screw work, and then going clubbing. I grew out of it though, it was getting so bad that at times I would pretend to be sick mid shift and then go clubbing! I'd feel awful if I did that now, and you never know what money you might miss!
Re: Going out VS Going to work
I do this a lot. Except not usually to go out clubbing, more like chill out, smoke a few bowls and watch Buffy. That's just how I roll.
Re: Going out VS Going to work
CK, lighten up on yourself girl! Everybody, in every profession, has called off for something they wanted to do.
In the corporate world, I was famous for calling out to attend Ozfest and Lollapalooza concerts.
I'm only sorry that it wasn't worth it for you!
Re: Going out VS Going to work
Oh, Watermelon...I totally empathise! I hate it when I decide to go out with people back in the US and we dont leave until 1130/midnight and then go stand in a line and the clubs lights are coming on at 130!! Much better in Europe where clubs are open til 5-6am!!! and THEN there are AFTERS (after parties which go from 6/7am-noon!)
Party hard or dont party at all....(within reason, of course!)

Sympathy to you - i know the feeling - i rarely had a night off last year and my relationship suffered becasue of it, but on a rare night off with my ex, he decided that instead of our plans to go to a club together he'd tske me to not one but two local SC's! It's what we call a busman's holiday and i was sooooo upset, he just didn't get it at all "i thought you'd want to be with your friends"!
I have had a lot more time off this year and enjoyed every bit of it - it was my birthday on Thursday and i never work on my birthday so had thurs, fr and sat off. Am now desperately poor but i had a great time, but i do know the frustration when you take a night off and have a terrible time and you know it's cost you money!
Re: Going out VS Going to work
i always plan in advance and pick up an extra day if need be. instead of thur-sat i'll do wed-friday
Re: Going out VS Going to work
AWW I'm sorry Cin, have you really checked and found not one every week gay club in your area???
