need some professional advice
I have sort of a serious problem at the moment and I desperately need advice....Heres the breakdown: I am going to a highly respected catholic school right now in NY. I am in the physician assistant program here because my relative is a professor at my school so I get free tuition. Everyone in the science department knows me and regards me very highly. No one knows that I was/am a dancer. The program gets thousands of applications a year, and I am first in my class. Basically I am guranteed admission into PA school next year as long as I dont go to jail or something. The only thing is is that before my school will grant admission into the hospital portion they do a slight "background check/drug test." I worked in another state last summer which shows up as a hotel resturant in my history, which I am not too worried about. I know all clubs do something similar, but I am worried that if I work in NY this summer that if my school does an employment history check on me then theres some way they could find out. Could someone please tell me exactly what shows up on a background check after youve worked at a club, and how/if they could find out? Could I just say I was a waitress? (God forbid that it does happen)
I am willing to not work and take out loans, I don't want to do anything to mess up my future. It sucks really bad because school gets out in like 3 weeks and I have like no idea what I am going to do with myself this summer.
Re: need some professional advice
Well, first of all you would have to assume that the club reports your employment, which won't happen unless they issue you a W-2 or a 1099. Even so, most of them do business under a name that doesn't indicate what the company is, like "TIC Enterprises" or "TIC Inc." I really doubt that something will show up. At most they might ask you what you did for TIC Inc and you are free to tell them you were a waitress or did bookkeeping or whatever. But I doubt it will show up.
If you're really concerned, run one on yourself just so you know exactly what comes up and you can be prepared.
Re: need some professional advice
could you tell me a good site that I could do this?

Out in the UK my all time favourite dancer Roxanne { ex rock muso and stripper for 10 years or more} is now in the Royal College of Surgeons. Mind you I don't think she put it on her cv !

Re: need some professional advice
Just work at a club that doesn't ask for ID. If they ask tell them you have a psycho ex who's trying to get custody of your kids and you can't have dancing on your record in any way, even on your taxes. Either they'll understand or you'll find another club.
"Background check" can mean different things. If it's a federal background check find out what level it is, and google it. For a TSI they will talk to everyone who knows you, but they won't necessarily care if you were a stripper (they will care if you are a closeted homosexual or have bad credit tho LOL). If however they just mean criminal clearances, just don't get arrested. If they contract to a PI firm then there's no way of knowing what they'll look into.
Re: need some professional advice
To work at Penthouse you have to show your social security card before you can cash your funny money, things come out as Robert's Steakhouse, so you could say you waitress there. Score's same thing about social security card and shows up as a catering firm. Clubs in the city want to see all your I'D's and make sure you can work in this country. Maybe in Queens, but most of those clubs only like to hire Russian's or Latina's. But remember when you ask a manager to do you a favor (like keep you off the books), they will most likely want some favor in return. You have alot on the line, you might want to try something else, like go-go dancing at a dance club or bartending. Good Luck
Re: need some professional advice
I've never had it show up on any of my background checks, and the ones I had to go through for the hospital, the one for a major world wide well known company and the one through the State Board were pretty extensive. I've had just local and state checks and indepth federal checks which look in to everything for like 10 years if not more. I really thought it would show up because in a few of the places I danced we had to have a license to do it, which meant going to the police dept, filling out the forms and getting your picture and fingerprints taken. None of that ever showed. The only problem I have ever run in to with my past of being a dancer, is on the job history part, when they want a full 10 year job history, and make you provide tax forms, etc., filling in the two years I did dance for without disclosing I danced gets a little difficult. Saying you were a waitress or cocktail waitress works best for that.
Re: need some professional advice
one of the statments on a agreement at my club was. " you are not employed through us you are merely renting the cub in orde4r to dance
Re: need some professional advice
Wow thanks guys all of this was really great advice beyond my expectations!
Re: need some professional advice
Also, I've never heard of someone not getting accepted into some kind of program after being a stripper. Unless you did some criminally prosecuted stuff...most of the time, the "job" is just over-looked.
And, then, like everyone else said, most strip clubs that report, report under "cover" names. Unless the person is extremely aware of those "under cover" names, they'll just glance over it without a second thought.
I wouldn't worry about it.
