Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
A new "striptease aerobics" class opened up in Indianapolis--inspired by Carmen Elektra's tapes! Yay! (Grrr...)
Indystriptease.com
From the site:
"P.S. INDY STRIPTEASE AEROBICS CLASSES ARE FOR WOMEN ONLY, HAVE
ABSOLUTELY NO NUDITY AND BY NO MEANS REFLECT THE MOVES OF ACTUAL STRIPPERS! NONE OF OUR INSTRUCTORS ARE ACTUAL STRIPPERS BUT FORMER DANCERS AND CHOREOGRAPHERS!"
So actually, don't worry: it has nothing to do with stripping. We might as well call it "cooking" aerobics. Oh, and strippers are NOT dancers.
What the fuck?

Xpose fitness in Maryland is the same way. It is really pittiful. We have other theads on this too. But it never ceases to amaze me. They are just hating the fact that their husbands go to strip clubs.

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
It makes them feel sexy without having to feel "bad" about themselves for doing something "slutty or degrading."
-
Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
That "hatred" is actually jealousy. They're reassuring their insecure clientele that the instructors aren't going to be beautiful, sexually confident, and financially independent. That's what the housewives hate us for... they just wish they could be us.

I wrote them an email, hehe.
Btw, I teach burlesque classes and am an exotic dancer ;]
""BY NO MEANS REFLECT THE MOVES OF ACTUAL STRIPPERS! NONE OF OUR INSTRUCTORS
ARE ACTUAL STRIPPERS BUT FORMER DANCERS AND CHOREOGRAPHERS!"
If your moves do not reflect those of actual strippers, why are you promoting this class as "striptease" at all? Do you not believe that it is possible that actual strippers are indeed empowered by what they do, and are in fact intelligent, capable women worthy of respect? Strippers ARE dancers. I have known several former Vegas showgirls as well as professional modern and ballet dancers who now strip. Really, it's nothing to be ashamed of or to portray so negatively. This is only perpetuating certain sterotypes which do not pertain to the vast majority of exotic dancers.
I teach a strip tease class (we take off things like opera gloves and long sleeve shirts under which I tell the ladies to wear a shirt/tank top), keep it real, and we have a BLAST. I do not have to sugar coat a thing and THAT is liberating. The ladies really open up and feel sexy, not ashamed."

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
Its just marketing, I will bet money that most of those instructors have danced at a titty bar at some point or other. Bored housewives are judgemental...yet control family finances.....

:O That's like going to school and being taught by someone that's not really a teacher...makes no sense.
Eiither someone is telling lies or these women are getting ripped off...I'd much rather have the real deal.

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
human nature? i used to be against strippers- not hating any but thinking i as better. but it comes from how my mom felt about people in the industry. but i met a woman who happened to be a stripper, and then i got on here. and i learned that i can't be all high-and-mighty against the industry in general.

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
would you take a cooking class from someone who is not a real chef? why would you take a striptease class from someone with no actual experience? i find this the MOST obnoxious. why advertise that way? i'd be turned off if i were a prospective customer.

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
I don't know if the instructors really were strippers at one time or not, but I would bet that either way they are advertising themselves as not being affiliated with strippers because so many housewives or people that these classes are marketed to have a view of strippers as being whores or drug addicts that they wouldn't want to take a class from someone who once was a stripper. They want nothing to do with actual strippers, and just want to be able to do something that makes them feel sexy, without feeling like they are dirty.

LOL!!!
It's so stupid... The pole dance class I used to go to was taught by trained dance instructors, former circus performers, and (gasp) real live strippers!

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
Yeah, the way they're wording that "Indystriptease" is really irritating and hypocritical. The S Factor classes, on the other hand, are totally different than these kinds of "strip" aerobics classes. They don't sugarcoat anything, and are quite direct about the source (and intention) of the movement. Just my opinion, but I think the S Factor actually respects and even honors real exotic dancing.
I wish folks like the "Indy" folks realized that this was possible - to empower other women without denigrating strippers.

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
Um. Because they are running a business? And most women, while working out, don't want to remove their clothing in public? I didn't see any "and by the way, strippers are skanks" on there. But being a stripper doesn't by any stretch of the imagination, make you a fitness expert (and really - I am in a position to know).
I always thought these classes were stupid anyway. I mean really - all the fit, slender strippers you see don't get that way from spinning round a pole. They go to a bloody gym.

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
lol...a more "diplomatic" way for them to advertise would just be a "pole dancing class" or "sensual aerobic dance" taught by professional dancers...period..Their fastidiousness in promoting what they are NOT is what is irritating but I guess it will reach their market of bored out of shape housewives who want to give a rose another name......(smile)

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
There are a lot of studio dancers (ballet, jazz, etc.) who are offended that strippers are now called "dancers" because it seems to put all of them in the same category. I used to be like that. It's because, from the outside (someone who has never seen strippers perform or knows the work put into it), it looks like "real dancers" bust their asses to perfect an art, and that strippers (or "not real dancers") just shake their ass, grind, twist around a pole, take off their clothes, and call it an art form. Not all studio dancers realize there is an art to striptease. It's not all bump and grind. It's very methodical and takes a bit of talent. Not everyone can be a stripper.

hey now...don't knock us bored housewives ;)

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
I will be starting a Pole Dance class this next coming week, and I and my friends chose this girl on purpose because she IS a stripper. Oh, and because she's unbelievable on the pole...hehe.... anyways..we had the chance to take the class from another woman that used to teach ballet or something, but we turned it down because we wanted someone who'd actually stripped.

I am not taking the pole class for fitness. Ok, well maybe I am a little. But, I take kickboxing 4 days a week and a powertone(power bands) class three days a week. More so I'm taking this class for fun.

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
I'm not standing up for this description, but maybe it has something to do with the instructors privacy. Maybe they don't want to be labeled as "strippers" and have people finding out their real names or they do this on the side and don't want to be labeled a "stripper" in the eyes of other employers or something.

Re: Seriously...wtf. Why is "stripping" so popular with people who hate us?
Housewives??? I personaly thing being a housewife is way more degrading then being a stripper
