This kind of crap that you spew is why I have you on ignore. I only saw this because Colleen quoted it >:(
If those fuckers could transport her from one station to another, AFTER booking her in and LEAVE HER BELONGINGS IN THE FIRST STATION, they could transport her back to where they booked her and left her belongings in the first place. You make me sick. For saying that, you deserve the same fate as this girl.
Re: Near-Fatal Accident....Is This a Fellow SWer?
Wow .....I can't tell you how many times I've looked up her name on google.com and misc news sites to look for updates, and oddly enough, I never thought of looking her up on myspace. At first I thought it was a different person of the same name, but on of the pics they have is the same one chicagotribune.com has used. It says the last login was 5/31/06, but I imagine that may have been part of the investigation...to see who she was in Chicago with or whatever.
Re: Near-Fatal Accident....Is This a Fellow SWer?
It is so sad to look at that woman's MySpace page...
She was into philosophy, and she could write.
I suppose we'll never know what happened, but if she was wild enough to get arrested on an El station for causing a scene, she could have been wild enough to end that rapist's attack by jumping. It's a fucked up scenario either way, beyond belief.
Re: Near-Fatal Accident....Is This a Fellow SWer?
Im not sure if anyone gets the chicago tribune but she's on the front page. shes in a rehab center here being treated. Apparently beyond being raped and pushed. she was or is bipolar. her parents are here in chicago by her side.
Re: Near-Fatal Accident....Is This a Fellow SWer?
I'm sure there was at least one cop car sitting around there that someone could have given her a ride. Yeah tax dollars shouldnt go to providing a safe and comfy discharge for everyone who gets released - but tax dollars shouldn't pay for cops bullshitting around, hassling innocent people for kicks, getting off on dragging in dancers for the hell of it because their "hair brushed a customers shoulder" and they sure dont think before they waste ThAt money - so give a damn little girl a break and take her to the airport. I hope they feel guilty.
Re: Near-Fatal Accident....Is This a Fellow SWer?
Tart, thanks for bringing this to our attention. i odn't usually read that paper, but I registered for the full online edition. I read the article and it made my tear up all over again.
I never brought it up earlier, but a few months back, I made contact with a friend of hers to express my concern (it's a long story how that happened), but anyways, her friend was a bitch to me and her whole attitude about what happened (almost like "Oh well, these things happen all the time"), it changed my perspective on it for a while. I felt like Why should I care so much and let this consume me, if her childhood friend isn't even nearly as heartbroken as I am. Does that make sense? I feel like a terrible person for feeling that way, but I will admit that I never stopped thinking about this.
It does haunt me still, and I feel so terrible for her and her family. This article in today's tribune was so well-put. I would suggest that anyone who posted on this topic months ago, read the article. It only takes a minute to register to read the full article and see the pictures.
Re: Near-Fatal Accident....Is This a Fellow SWer?
I was driving back from Malibu to San Diego today (I'm buying a house in Malibu...just have to find one...heh) and Joe called me and told me that he bought the trib for me because this story was on the front page. I don't know what the article says, but from what Joe said is that this reporter has been investigating the story since the get go and said that the Chicago Cops fucked up big time and that there is now an active full-blown cover up going on and they will most likely be forced to over-haul the police there, again, and that they'll probably lose their asses in the lawsuit by the girl's family.

Yet, when a resident of those projects gets raped in an empty apartment, I doubt it makes the news. Even murders that happen there don't always make the papers. In my estimation, it's shameful that a place like this exists at all in our country. And as for the woman who wouldn't help her, saying "white folks and us don't mix"--well, that's shameful, too. But then again, we reap what we sow, don't we?
I know this is an old post but I agree with Nicolina; it is screwed up on so many angles all the way around in so many ways I don't know where to begin. The old saying is "2 wrongs don't make a right" but this story has hundreds of different wrongs all at once. Too many people on many different levels had no regard or empathy for their fellow human being, (the Chicago police, the Robert Taylor residents, society as a whole) who could have prevented this tragedy. There was lack of understanding and respect in too many ways (male v.s. female, police vs. civilians, black vs. white, white vs. black, stripper vs. establishment, lack of understanding of mental illness, ad infinitum.) And I also totally agree that similar such travesties happen in places such as this all the time but we don't hear about them. People, all people, need to stop viewing each other as trash and respect each other as human beings. This is a very shameful and tragic situation no matter how you look at it.

How did that girl sow anything with that bitch?? Come on now. The white suppression excuse if fucken old, worn out, and not exactly valid anymore. People perpetuate this bullshit out of ignorance and stupidity.

I am not Nicolina so I can't say exactly what she meant, but going by what I read in her entire paragraph; I don't think she was talking about the girl. I think she was talking about how the majority of society doesn't really care about the numerous murders and rapes that go on so how can anyone expect the residents to be anything other than apathetic. Also I would suggest that the rate of apathy between the residents there is quite high and that it's not something that is just reserved for "white people". If they cared more about each other they wouldn't have such high crime.
People get defensive. The whole "well you don't care so why should I?" kicks in. People become emotional islands, closing themselves off in an act of what they perceive to be "self preservation", they get scared about what might happen to them if they get involved. I was reading a case about a 10 year old (black) boy who was shot in a barrage of bullets from a drive by and it was harder than pulling teeth to get witnesses due to people fearing retributions.
I'm not making excuses for anyone, apathy is too big of a problem with humans period and the woman's actions are abhorent and she should be charged. But apathy is sadly all pervasive, permeating in practically every human relationship. The police were the first ones to show it, they had no compassion or understanding what-so-ever for a fellow human being with a mental illness and also not caring for someone who was a stripper. A lot of women on this board have horrid stories of apathy from their own flesh and blood reacting just as disgusting as the Taylor resident; their parents either don't believe or don't care about the abuse their own child has gone through. The problem of apathy extends far beyond the bonds of "race". It runs much deeper than that. And sadly, it's not rare (look at all the reports of rapes, murders, and muggings going on in New York and no one doing a thing about it.)
Re: Near-Fatal Accident....Is This a Fellow SWer?
Just wanted to update that I heard on the news radio today that the officers that were involved with this situation (and they're watch commander) are being charged. I am not sure what charges will be brought about and if they are criminal, etc...or if the charges being leveraged are going to be departmental or judicial...but I'm feeling better hearing that they are going to be held accountable.
I'm also glad because it will help her parent's lawsuit, as well.
Re: Near-Fatal Accident....Is This a Fellow SWer?
See That is why I left that school. I am not going into another bad neighborhood. I dont care how much money it save me. Poor girl! I hope she get better!
