From Almost Raven to Platinum Blonde
This is something I have wanted to do for AGES!!
I'm growing out my hair after shaving it off completely and want to get it shaped into something really hot and then bleaching it to a super bright and light blonde. My natural color is medium/dark brown, light olive skin and green eyes. Of course that isn't enough to get a great idea so feel free to check out my photos on myspace under Aleah Cline
I've waitedwaitedwaited to do this, almost ready... What do you gals think? Anyone try this? What did you think? How long did it take? Do blondes really have more fun?
I just want to feel H-O-T again!!}:D
Re: From Almost Raven to Platinum Blonde
Be careful! Go to a salon and get it done. If your hair is dark the color will have to be lifted and new color applied.
Bleaching is one of the most damaging things you can do to your hair. Get some good hair products and use them. I highly recommend Biolage and Redkin ( sp? ) for colored hair.
Yes, it's true, blonds do have more fun! :D

Re: From Almost Raven to Platinum Blonde
I have naturally black hair very close to what I see in your Myspace profile pic... and now I have blonde hair. It's in the best condition that it has ever been and it's by my butt. I wish I could post a pic of it here but I have long blonde hair and was not born a blonde.
The secret is to have your hair dresser gradually bleach your hair in stages. Like over a year. If you do it in one or two sittings then I assure you that you will end up frying your hair LOL I did that during college about 10 years ago and my hair had a difficult time growing.
Five years ago I finally met a hairdresser who taught me to do it the right way. Now I have pretty blonde hair and it's in good condition so yes... it is very possible!
As for being blonde... I will never go back to being a dark haired vixen. Men seem to treat me way better. They notice me. They look at MY FACE LOL I love it and highly suggest it! ;)
Re: From Almost Raven to Platinum Blonde
I'm currently in the process of going from black to blonde...and doing it the right way this time. The first trip to the hairdresser they gave me microhighlights, very very thin highlights of blonde that blended with the black and gave me a dirty blonde colour. You can't tell that there is black in my hair anymore, at all. I'm going back for the second step soon, and looking forward to be a marilyn blonde. It can be done, it just takes patience.
Re: From Almost Raven to Platinum Blonde
I also have naturally dark hair, olive skin and hazel eyes. I've been bleaching my hair for the last 10 years. While I think I look better with dark hair, I love being blonde and will probably never go back to dark.
Definitely go to a professional to have it done. With your coloring, you will pull a lot of red tones through your hair, so they would probably need to do a double process color to get you Marilyn blonde. I don't recommend this, since it's really harsh on your hair. I have mine bleached with a single process light blonde, and then have highlights put in. It's probably the best way to go blonde in a single trip, without completely frying your hair. If you want a picture of my hair color, just pm me.
If you've been waiting to go blonde, I say GO FOR IT!!!!

Re: From Almost Raven to Platinum Blonde
My hair is naturally a dark brown and I dyed it black for several years. I went from black to blonde in three days. I spent over 14 hours at the salon during those three days. It took several processes to get it that light and some of the intermediate steps were not that flattering. My hair was past my shoulders and after lightening it I cut it short (similar to Dharma on Dharma & gregg) simpley b/c my hair was pretty damaged. I knew I would end up cutting it shorter so that was no big deal. I have blue eyes, olive complexion and dark eyebrows and blone hair works for me.
I make better money as a blonde for many reasons: I live in TX & there are lots of customers that want blondes; by nature I am not a bubbly person, but the blonde hair (in my mind) makes me appear more bubbly and not so serious (just the general stereotypes assoc. with being blonde); before ppl. thought I was from a different country, couple that w/ a not so bubbly personality, result = a somewhat harder time making more money.
My hair is not a platinum blonde though. It's lighter than a sandy blonde with a darker shade underneath. I like to have healthy hair and feel that if I lightened all of it, it would just be to damaged. However, if you prefer shorter length hair, this probably wouldn't be as big of a concern to you unless you just like having healthy hair.
I like having the blonde hair for work purposes. I feel that I am more marketable and that people think I am lighthearted. However, when I quit dancing I am going back to being a brunette. I am tired of the upkeep, the roots, and damaging my hair.
