Hmm...
Sorry, I don't know her stuff well enough (though I do like a couple I've heard) to recommend anything to go with it. I need to get some of her stuff, I think. I might have a couple songs of hers on compilations, but god knows which or where they are, lol.
LoL I cant stand Shakira but this song is so damn catchy. It makes me want to dance around and float and bounce and I dont know lol. Im such a rock girl I dont really know any R&B except what I hear at work :(
Sarah Conner Let's get back to bed boy
He's unbelievable
Rihanna Pon de Replay
Black eyed peas My Humps
Don't phunk with my heart
Christina Millan Dip it Low
Christina Aguilere Genie in a bottle
Sophie Ellis Bextor Murder on a dancefloor
Kylie Minogue Red Blooded woman
Pussycat Dolls Beep
I like "Hips Don't Lie" too and I'm usually more of a rock girl myself. Some songs to go with it:
"Don't Cha" or "Stick With U" by the Pussycat Dolls. "Don't Cha" is way overplayed though.
"SOS"-Rihanna
"Dirrrty"-Christina Aguilera
"Naughty Girl" or "Check On It"-Beyonce
"Rock The Boat", "Try Again", or "Are You That Somebody?"-Aaliyah
"Rock The Boat" is really slow though.
I like "Don't Bother" by Shakira... it is good for a Cleopatra theme...
Shakira stole those opening riffs from a salsa song by Jerry Rivera, I don't remember the song title though. She's supposed to be a songwriter, right?
Ugh. Not only have I never liked Shakira, but her latest crap is, well, more stinky C-R-A-P than before. And her latest chest move = just another cheesy-ass gimmick to make up for her shitty singing ::)
I hate the Shakira version of this song. You should check out the version that Wyclef did (without her) a couple years ago. It's called "Dance Like This" and it was on the "Dirty Dancing 2" soundtrack.
I'll check out the original. I really can not stand Shakira or anything by her but for some godly unknown reason I really find this song catchy when I block out her voice lol.
To go along with AnnaPDX, yes...the Wyclef version is much better. It's on the Dirty Dancing:Havana Nights Soundtrack. I like the Shakira version only because I can mute the video.....oh yes.
^LOL
OK, her voice might be an acquired taste (sounds like a goat? I like goats!) but she's a wonderful representative of the best in Latin American culture, (please don't ask me for the verguenza mas mal culture.)
Songs to go along with "Hips" of hers: "Un Poco De Amor" "Ojos Asi"
"Just Say Yes" (She secretly recorded this with Robert Smith & The Cure, dammit, it's not credited but I know it's her!!!)
We need Shakira and Stevie Nicks and Jim Bruer to all record a goat-vibrato song together. Pure genius.

I use loads of party ben and also www.Team9.net this guy does fantastic 'mash ups' I really love the mix of prince -sign of the times with gnarls barkleys -crazy.
Ok, guys, do a search on Amazon.com for Jerry Rivera, then click on his "Cuenta Conmigo" album and click on "Amores Como El Nuestro" and listen to the riff Shakira stole :)
Sheeeit. I've seen better than her on the streets in Puerto Rico. Poor representative if you ask me :P
Well there were a couple songs on a Shakira CD a dancer brought in three years ago that sounded fairly good to me, but from the sounds of it, my aversion to MTV and other music video channels, and to the vast majority of PopTop 40 shit, is serving me well in this instance.
It does make it more difficult on occasion at work, when dealing with dancers who want the latest radio hits that suck, lol.
I forget the name of the songs I liked, "Goats on Fire", "I Need a Goat", somthing like that...
Re: Shakira being an "acquired taste," watch this video -

- and tell me something along the lines of "I WISH...," or "IF ONLY..." doesn't immediately come to mind!!!
Well, I can't get it to play--thanks anyway, though...
What is it, her dancing provocatively? I know she's supposed to be hot, but there are plenty enough women who I put onstage who are as well, lol--not to knock your posting the link in any way.
For me to like a woman's music, her being hot looking isn't enough. But, hey, I confess to liking those two songs at least somewhat a few years back, whatever the hell they were.
I don't remember feeling moved to run right out and buy them, though, obviously.
Nope. If I'd been shaking my ass my entire life, and had access to the trainers, choreographers, directors, writers, makeup artists, lighting and sound people, etc, that she has, I reckon I could look and dance like that too.Quote:

On any given night at my club, every single song (it seems) Shakira has ever made will be played. The dancers fight over them, and you will hear a lot of it at the beginning of the night because they are trying to request them before the other girls get a chance. Another dancer and i have a running joke that they should just rename the club "Shakira."
Now, I just pretend to my custy's that I like Shakira, and whenever it comes on I just have to dance to it. :)
