giving ID & SS# at certain NYC clubs
Hello everyone,
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. I'm hoping to work at a club like New York Dolls, Hustler, or any other New York strip clubs, as a dancer. I'm just concerned about giving my real SS number and real name and real permanent home address, just because I don't want it showing up on records if I get a background check...some people can be bible-thumper mentality-ish when it comes to that.
If a club treats you as an "independent contractor," and thus ( i think this is correct, please correct me if i'm wrong, thanks) has you fill out your own tax forms... could I be "safe" to write down a fake permanent/current address, and a fake name as well, and date of birth?
What is the likelihood of a club, when you're getting hired, comparing the name on your id with the name on your fill-out form?
For those who have worked in strip clubs in Manhattan, could you tell me what information was required on the "hiring form" (or whatever paper work they might make you fill out)? Is it possible to give a fake number?
thanks a ton! :)

It all gets reported to the IRS. They are taking your information for tax reporting purposes. Yes, you can get into trouble for using a fake name and address with your SS#. You COULD give a fake number, but most clubs require that you bring your social security card with you where they will take a copy of that and your DL. That's how it was done at the clubs I worked at.

It will come back to the club that this information is not valid. Even if you are an "independant contractor" the club is responsible for reporting that you are working there to the IRS. You fill out the tax forms so that they can 1099 you at the end of the year.
You can do whatever you want, but be aware that being dishonest about it all can really bite you in the ass. Most background checks are done to find if you have any illegal activity, suspicious activity, etc. In this day and age (unless you are wanting to be a teacher in a Red State/area) most people don't care that women worked as strippers to pay for their education.

Please don't falsify info! It's way more trouble than it's worth ie jail time.
Re: giving ID & SS# at certain NYC clubs
Even though NYC is 1500 miles from the Mexican border, the city and suburbs still have a tremendous illegal alien problem - although many of the illegals are not Mexicans but eastern europeans and middle easterners. There were some high profile busts recently of 'human importers' who were illegally bringing in young eastern european girls to both be put to work in area clubs and as escorts. Thus supplying a combination of name, address and SS# to a 'corporate' club, which do not check out with gov't records of 'legal' workers when the 'corporate' club tries to verify status of new workers per the Patriot Act, is likely to attract a whole lot of attention.
As to your real name, real address and real SS# becoming available to the 'general public', there is no dancers' licensing requirement in NY thus there is no gov't 'public record' created which could potentially be available to anybody with $3 for a photocopy thanks to the Freedom of Information act (as it would be in places like Atlanta or Texas or Vegas where dancers' licenses are required). However, the 'corporate' clubs will maintain private records of employment, which are potentially available to 'authorized' persons like potential straight job employers and gov't agencies.
As to the financial side of giving your real name, real address and real SS# on a 'corporate club' application, as already pointed out this info will be used for the 'corporate' clubs to issue 1099 forms automatically reporting a portion of your club income (usually that portion which is collected from custys through the club's cash register via credit card and then paid out to dancers). However, NY being what it is, there will be three 1099's generated - one to the IRS for federal income tax, another to the State of NY for state income tax, and a third to the City of NY for city income tax. In truth the most agressive of the three is the City of NY, who will follow part-time high earning workers all the way back to their home city/state in order to collect their 'cut' of taxes on income the person earned within the City of NY. Of course the City of NY tax people will also tip off the NY State (or state of residence) tax people and the IRS in regard to their findings.

thanks for the advice ladies! much appreciated! I guess i'll just go the safe route and provide real information...would rather not get into legal trouble...and I never plan on living in a "bible belt" area where i might get more trouble if the stripping comes out in a background check (i wouldn't list it on a previous employment form...just say i'm a student...which technically I will be...or just say i'm a waitress....or just was a cocktail waitress at a club...to avoid the repercussions...not sure what they'd be, but...). But still...I hate it that there are so many misconceptions or judgmental people out there..I wish that everyone would be taught in elementary school, private and public schools alike, the lesson that before thinking that something is "true" or before forming an opinion on something, one should really try to find out the "truth" and the different sides of an issue and realize that one story about something doesn't mean that it's the case all across the board...or a movie's depiction of one strip club and the a character in it doesn't mean that EVERYONE and EVERYPLACE is like that...if only there were a mandatory national education lesson in social issues and perceptions....
