An enjoyable career or money venture
I was curious to see how people felt about dancing as a job overall. I know every job has its down sides but I was wondering if people are manly in the industry for the money. Would you do it if it didn't pay aswell? Do you get enjoyment out of the job other than financially and if so what do you enjoy the most? Other than the financial and time freedom? :)
Re: An enjoyable career or money venture
I went into it for the money, but I'd been thinking about it for ages beforehand. Running out of $$ was the kick in the ass I needed to take the plunge.
I definitely wouldn't do it if it paid the same as a bar/retail job - too many risks and too much hassle keeping it a secret!
Re: An enjoyable career or money venture
I like my job (for the most part) but I definetely do it for the money also. The freedom of scheduling is also nice, and I like the hours, but definetely I do it mostly for the money. If I could get a bartending job (or any other job) where I worked pretty much the same hours (I like working at night) and made the same money, I would definetely switch jobs.
Re: An enjoyable career or money venture
I like the hours, the freedom to work basically wherever and whenever I want. I like when it's fun and glamorous and sexy, which it is at times. I like being able to ignore customers I don't like. And it is fun not having a traditional job, when you aren't a very traditional person.
However, if the pay was less than it is for me - I don't think I'd do it. The downside outweighs all of those positives. It takes it's toll mentally and physically. I don't want my family to find out, so I have to lie. I also detest working in cigarette smoke for hours and hours.

I went into it for the money and fantasy. The fantasy wore off pretty quickly and the money became the only reason I enjoyed it. When I didn't make money I was sad and down when I did I felt like I was on cloud nine. I saved some money but not nearly as much as I should/could have. The flexible schedule and being able to tell rude customers to f*ck off is nice too.

You have to enjoy this line of work to stick in it long. Besides if the customers see you love your job and are smiling and having a good time, so will they and they tend to tip better.
Re: An enjoyable career or money venture
I did it for the money. I wasn't financially secure at that time. Flexible schedule, instant cash as opposed to waiting for a check, and sense of control over my destiny are all reasons why I continued.
Re: An enjoyable career or money venture
Both....but if I was financially stable beforehand- I might still look for a way to dance naked. When I gogo dance, I feel so angry that I can't just take my clothes off. I'm like pulling at them and getting myself all worked up. I think most people can tell I'd rather be naked. It pays like 60 a night and feels like charity. Somehow it evens out though...I really like to move, I like for people to see that I like to move, and the appreciate the physicality that is created.....

It's about the money. It gives me the financial freedom to pursue my dreams/goals, which is very important to me. At my age, I wont be making better money anywhere else. Although I love to dance, always have, that's not at all why I'm considering the industry. I definately wouldn't be interested if it didn't pay well. It will be a fun outlet for creativity, I've already planned outfits/themes I want to do on stage, and the thrill of captivating the audience and take them to another place. The lack of inhibitions the profession entitles is also a plus. :)
